Abstract:Objective: To observe the serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level in rat model with sepsis, and its signifi- cance on the prognosis in sepsis thereof. Methods:The rat model with sepsis was established with cecal ligation and puncture. The levels of serum ALP, albumin (ALB), Ca2+, total bilirubin (TBIL) and C-neactveprotein (CRP) were measured. Results: The levels of serum ALP, ALB and Ca2+ were lower in mild and severe group than those of control group (P < 0.01).The levels of serum TBIL and CRP were higher than that of control group (P < 0.01). The levels of serum ALP,ALB and Ca2+ were lower in the severe sepsis group than those of mild group (P < 0.01). The serum TBIL levels were higher in the severe sepsis group than that in the mild group (P < 0.01). There was no statistical difference in serum CRP level between the severe group and the mild group (P > 0.05). The level of ALP was correlated with ALB and TBIL (P < 0.01). There was no statistical correlation between the levels of ALP and Ca2+, and ALP and CRP (P > 0.05). The serum ALP level was negatively correlated to the severity of sep- sis(r = -0.933, P < 0.01). Conclusion: The serum ALP level was negatively correlated to the severity of sepsis. The lower the ALP level was,the more severe the sepsis was. The serum ALP level was a reliable marker for the prognosis of sepsis.
