Abstract:AIM:To analyze the status quo of preventing and curing AIDS,and probe into the superiority and significance of therapy with traditional Chinese medicine. METHODS: According to the "prevention before onset and prevention from deterioration" in preventive treatment theory of traditional Chinese medicine,researches should start from non-symptom HIV infectious stage,and greatly exert the advantages of Chinese medicine. Differential treatment should be conducted on non-symptom HIV infected patients with the aim of slowing down the process of disease.RESULTS: ①Chinese medicine in the treatment of AIDS from non-symptom infectious stage is aimed at preventing the deterioration of disease,enhancing the immunity of patients and postponing the development towards AIDS and even maintaining the non-symptom infectious stage without onset.②From the perspective of Chinese medicine,despite specific clinical symptoms and functional indicators of AIDS did not represent in patients at non-symptom infectious stage,different syndromes could be seen,which could reveal the natures of pathological changes in individuals at certain stage of AIDS.③Patients with HIV infection at the non-symptom stage are the most,and duration was much longer,which provides space and time for medical staffs to conduct treatment.CONCLUSION: It is proved in the practice that non-symptom HIV infectious stage is a golden point for treatment of AIDS with traditional Chinese medicine.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the application range and exact effect of Chinese medicine on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS).Methods The related clinical literature on Chinese medicine for AIDS from January 1998to December 2011was collected in China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wangfang Database and VIP Database.The observed object,sample size,observation time,test method,observation content and efficacy evaluation were evaluated.Results Totally 171 articles were included and 8 742patients were involved.The research methods consisted of TCM compound formulas,classical formulas,acupuncture and moxibustion.There were 45kinds of compound formulas such as Yiaikang Capsule,Ailing Granules and Fuzheng Paidu Tablet.The observed objects were mostly human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection/AIDS patients.The sample size ranged from 3to 1 634cases.The observation time lasted for 3to 6months.The self-contrast was commonly used in the clinical trials.The observation content was improvement of patient immunity.The efficacy evaluation adopted symptom score improvement,counts of CD4+and its subsets,viral load,conventional indicators and biochemical indicators.The observed objects in classical formulas research were AIDS patients mainly.The sample size ranged from 20to 65cases.The observation time lasted for 1month.The self-contrast was commonly used in the clinical trials.The efficacy evaluation mainly adopted symptom improvement with different evaluation standards.The observed objects in acupuncture and moxibustion research were AIDS patients.The sample size ranged from 20to 274cases.The observation time mainly lasted for 3month.The test methods were mostly randomized controlled.The observation content mainly focused on moxibustion for AIDS-associated diarrhea.The efficacy evaluation was relatively clear.Conclusion Chinese medicine can obviously relieve the symptoms and improve the quality of life in AIDS patients but related research should further clarify the object and increase the sample size and observation time.

Abstract:Objective:To analysis of the status quo of the researchers and research subjects of traditional Chinese medicine for HIV/AIDS in the foreign papers,with a view to provide reference to the domestic AIDS researchers to carry out Chinese medicine research.Methods:We systematically searched major english databases,and included all available study of traditional Chinese medicine for HIV/AIDS in the foreign papers,and extracted the related information (year,journal,author,country and medical subject headings of papers) and produced co-author and co-keywords matrix by BICOMS-2 software,the figure of network by NetDraw and cluster analysis by gCLUTO.Results:The outcome showed that the American,UK,Netherlands,Germany and China published more papers;at the same time,Journal of Natural Products published the number of papers more than other journals;the cooperation of authors should be improved between different regions;high frequency medical subject headings were Plant Extracts,HIV-1,Anti-HIV Agents and HIV Infections,there were 4 research topics in this field.Conclusion:Therefore,there are imbalance in the number of papers of traditional Chinese medicine for HIV/AIDS in different areas,the collaboration of authors should be enhanced between different regions,and the research topic mainly focuses on the plant extracts for HIV.

Abstract:Although the HAART(Highly Active Antiretrovirus Therapy) can not completely cure HIV/AIDS, it makes the fatal disease into the chronic and controllable disease with reducing mortality and morbility throughout the world. TCM has been used in the research of HIV/AIDS and treating HIV/AIDS for many years.Many Chinese herbs have some effect on inhibiting HIV thought the basic research. Abstract:ABSTRACT: In the past 37 years, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) has undergone various major transmission routes in China, with the world most complex co-circulating HIV-1 subtypes, even the prevalence is still low. In response to the first epidemic outbreak of HIV in injecting drug users and the second one by illegal commercial blood collection, China issued the Anti-Drug Law and launched the Blood Donation Act and nationwide nucleic acid testing, which has avoided 98,232 to 211,200 estimated infections and almost ended the blood product-related infection. China has been providing free antiretroviral therapy (ART) since 2003, which covered >80% of the identified patients and achieved a viral suppression rate of 91%. To bend the curve of increasing the disease burden of HIV and finally end the epidemic, China should consider constraining HIV spread through sexual transmission, narrowing the gaps in identifying HIV cases, and the long-term effectiveness and safety of ART in the future.

Abstract:Objective:To study Chinesemedical pattern regularity of HIV/AIDS. Methods:Frequency statistic method was used to analyze articles on clinical study of Chinese medicine for HIV/AIDS,iming at pattern distribution and symptomatic characteristics. Results: The pattern sequence related to case frequency was:dual deficiency of qi-yin,liver depression qi stagnation,interior retention of damp-heat,dual deficiency of qi-blood,qi deficiency blood stasis;The symptom sequence was:lacking in strength,tetter,fever,cough,diarrhea,constriction in chest,anorexia,spontaneous perspiration,headache,wizened.Conclusion : Common patterns of HIV/AIDS are dual deficiency of qi-yin,nterior retention of damp-heat,iver depression qi stagnation. Common symptom of HIV/AIDS are lacking in strength,tetter,fever,cough,diarrhea.

Abstract:Current international anti-HIV drug efficacy evaluation criteria including CD4 cell count and viral load. Antiviral therapy has good effect in suppressing viral load, although there are many limitations. More and more researchers began to focus on Chinese medicine. A large number of clinical practice shows that Chinese herbal medicine is good at improving patient immune function, reducing symptoms and improving quality of life, but the efficacy of inhibiting viral load was not obvious, clinical manifestation, immunological and virological indicators index inconsistency how to explain? This article from the perspective of theory and literature review, pointing out the similarities and differences of efficacy action points of Chinese and Western medicine treatment of AIDS from three aspects, including immune function, viral load and symptoms to explore the relevance of them. This paper proposed that immune function improvement and viral load change is not a direct inverse relationship (ie, improve immunity, the virus must fall); immunity improve followed by symptom relief and improved quality of life is more common to be seen; long-term improvement of immune function may follow by stable virus or gradual decline; the analysis still need to be testified in large sample, prolonged clinical observation in the future.

Abstract:Tasked by the Ministry of Health the Chinese Medical Association organized experts to develop these Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV/AIDS. Based on the latest national and international research developments these guidelines adopt an evidence-based approach taking into account the characteristics of Chinas situation. Topics include epidemiology etiology pathogenesis pathological changes clinical presentation and staging laboratory tests diagnosis highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) diagnosis and treatment of common opportunistic infections (OIs) prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) and post-exposure prophylaxis. Special attention focuses on the antiretroviral therapy. Features of these guidelines include: 1) systematic and comprehensive coverage from basic science to the clinical from treatment to prophylaxis; 2) evidence-based medicine that avoids recommending views and approaches yet to be proven; 3) clinically practical and innovative buildingupon the consensus from Chinese experts (particularly in regard to HIV clinical staging and diagnostic criteria) epidemiology of HIV and AIDS in China and the clinical characteristics of Chinese AIDS patients; 4) recommendation of HAART regimens based on in-country drug availability. Traditional Chinese Medicine Interventions in AIDS Immune Reconstruction under Public Health Supervision

Abstract:This paper summarizes the results of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) intervention in Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) treatment from the immune reconstruction. The role of TCM in intervening in AIDS immune reconstruction, improving the symptoms of HIV/AIDS patients, improving the quality of life of patients, and alleviating the suffering of patients were thoroughly analyzed. Specifically, this paper uses a retrospective analysis method to divide 187 AIDS patients into a simple western medicine group and a combined Chinese and western medicine group according to whether the treatment plan is combined with TCM. The medical records of the patients in the included group were classified and analyzed based on the follow-up points before treatment, 12, 24, and 36 months after treatment, to observe the change in total symptom score, CD4+ lymphocyte count, and the Karnofsky score. The results demonstrate that the total symptom scores in the western medicine group after treatment were lower than those before treatment, and the decrease in the 12th and 24th months was statistically significant compared with that before treatment (P 0.05). Compared with those before treatment, the total symptom scores in the combined group were significantly lower at each follow-up point (P value < 0.05), and the decrease at the 24th and 36th months was more significant than that in the western medicine group at the same period (P < 0.05). In addition, the CD4+ counts at each follow-up point in the two groups were significantly increased compared with those before treatment (P < 0.05), and the increase in the combined group at the 36th month was significantly more significant than that in the western medicine group at the same period (P 0.05). On the other hand, the scores for the combined group increased after treatment compared with before treatment. The differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05) except for the 12th month, and the difference presented in the 24th and 36th months, contrasting with the western medicine group at the same period, were significant Statistically significant (P < 0.05). We concluded that: 1. Western medicine treatment and combined treatment of traditional Chinese and Western medicine can improve the symptoms score of patients, promote the growth of CD4+ lymphocytes, and mediate immune reconstruction. The long-term curative effect of combining traditional Chinese and western medicine is more effective, durable and stable. 2. Combined use of traditional Chinese and Western medicine effectively relieves patients’ pain and improves their quality of life. 3. Long-term application of traditional Chinese medicine combined with HARRT has an effectively synergistic effect and promotes the treatment of AIDS patients.

Abstract:Compared with high infection areas of the world, the total HIV infection rate in China is relatively low. Nonetheless, because of China's vast territory and large population, the potential infection risk must be taken seriously. In the next few years, needle sharing among injection drug users will remain the most common route of transmission for the HIV/ AIDS epidemic in China. Unprotected sex is gradually becoming a major route of transmission. China began to implement HAART in 1999 according to international standards. Prior to 2003, there were only about 150 HIV/AIDS patients were treated with HAART in some clinical trials and about 100 HIV/AIDS patients were treated by private sources. Results of those treatments are the scientific basis for development of the therapeutic strategies in China. In March of 2003, the Chinese government initiated China CARES program. In November of 2003, the Chinese Ministry of Health announced a national policy of free ARV treatment to all HIV+ Chinese citizens who were in poverty and required ARV therapy. There are total of 19,456 HIV/AIDS patients received free ARV drugs to date in 159 regions and 441 towns. Current challenges are how to follow-up and evaluate those patients in the clinical settings. The longer the therapy is postponed, the more side effects and the higher probability of drug resistance are going to occur. It remains unclear, therefore, when HAART regimen should be started in the HIV/AIDS population in China.
