Abstract:Evidence from resting EEG showed that cognition development is both continuous and discontinuous, while evoked-potential studies failed to prooide similar evideme, probably due to oddball tasks which were not sensitive enough. To investigate the electrophysiological evidence of cognitive development, an adapted formal-thinking task was employed. 31 children aged from 9 to 11 participated in the study and the electroencephalography as recorded. The results showed that reaction time decreased and accuracy increased with age. The N380 amplitude was lowest for the 10-year-old group, and the topography of 350-400 ms was more diffused for the 10-year-old group, which suggested a change of information processing mode or a transformation of brain maturation and cognitive development.
