Abstract:Recently, video transmission over HSDPA has attracted more and more attentions. The traditional scheduler in HSDPA is designed to meet the QoS requirements such as delay, throughput, fairness and so on. In order to deeply study the performance of video transmission over HSDPA, we make a comprehensive research for the eight state-of-the-art scheduling schemes in HSDPA, such as RR, MAX C/I, PF, EDF, MLWDF, FT, RG and SB. To the best of our knowledge, no such systematical and comprehensive researches especially for video transmission over HSPDA have been analyzed in the existing literatures. Moreover, instead of simulative packets, we adopt the real H.264/AVC compressed video packets in our experiments. In this way, the simulation results of video transmission could be credible and realistic. Simulation results show that the scheduling algorithm MLWDF which takes throughput and delay into consideration can achieve higher delivery quality of video applications than the other ones in the normal system workload. However, in some special situations such as congestion or bad wireless channel states, the scheduler should provide the extra QoS guarantee for the more important video frames to improve the video delivery quality.
