Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the effects of a combined regime with tripterygium wilfordii (TW) plus angiotensin II receptor block (ARB) and emodin for IgA nephropathy (IgAN) with asymptomatic abnormal urinalysis. Methodology:90 patients who underwent renal biopsy and diagnosed as IgAN before enrolment in the study. They were divided into two groups. 60 patients (TW group) received the combined regime (TW at dosage of 60mg/d, ARB and Emodin) and the other 30 patients (the control group) received treatment with ARB and Emodin. Results:After the 3,6,12 months treatment, the percentage got to complete remission (CR) of TW group were 25.9%, 44.7%, 53.5%, while the control group were 7.7%, 8.40%, 14.3%. Only 3 months after the treatment, the proteinuria and hematuria decreased 55.1%, 66.7% as compared with the base line. At the 12 months' treatment, the hematuria and proteinuria significantly decreased in TW group [(84.18±111.29)×104/ml vs (17.49±23.27) ×104/ml, P0.01. (1.09±0.38)g/24h vs (0.36±0.27)g/24h, P0.01]. In control group, at the 12 months' treatment, the proteinuia decreased much slowly (P0.05), no significantly change of haematuria [(87.20±115.74) ×104/ml vs (66.71±85.36)×104/ml, P0.05]. The level of serum creatinine (SCr) kept stable in all the patients. Conclusion:Combined regime of Tripterygium wilfordii plus ARB and emodin was effective and safe in IgAN with asymptomativ abnormal urinalysis by decreasing proteinuria, haematuria and keeping renal function stable.
