Abstract:We first review the non-Abelian transport theory and its mean field dynamics. The theory is then applied for studying the color electric dynamics of cold and dense quark matter at large chemical potential, and color conductivity with non-perturbation effect is obtained. Finally, we compare the results at large chemical potential with that at high temperature, and discuss possible applications in the field of astrophysics.

Abstract:Several different transport processes, such as heat, momentum, and charge transports, may occur simultaneously in a thermal plasma system. The corresponding transport coefficients are heat conductivity, shear viscosity, and electric conductivity. In the present study, we investigate the color-electric conductivity of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in the presence of shear viscosity, focusing on the connection between the charge transport and momentum transport. To achieve this goal, we solve the viscous chromohydrodynamic equations obtained from the QGP kinetic theory associated with the distribution function modified by shear viscosity. According to the solved color fluctuations of hydrodynamic quantities, we obtain the induced color current through which the color-electric conductivity is derived. Numerical analysis shows that the conductivity properties of the QGP are mainly demonstrated by the longitudinal part of the color-electric conductivity. Shear viscosity has an appreciable impact on real and imaginary parts of the color-electric conductivity in some frequency regions.

Abstract:We calculate the conductivity matrix of a weakly coupled quark-gluon plasma at the leading-log order. By setting all quark chemical potentials to be identical, the diagonal conductivities become degenerate and positive, while the off-diagonal ones become degenerate but negative (or zero when the chemical potential vanishes). This means a potential gradient of a certain fermion flavor can drive backward currents of other flavors. A simple explanation is provided for this seemingly counterintuitive phenomenon. It is speculated that this phenomenon is generic even beyond the leading-log order, and it is most easily measured in cold atom experiments.

Abstract:The electric conductivity of a hot quark-gluon plasma is obtained numerically by solving the relativistic Boltzmann equation. We use a relativistic, semi-classical partonic cascade including screened binary and inelastic, radiative 2 <-> 3 perturbative QCD scattering. We employ the Green-Kubo formula and, independently, evaluate the static electric current established by the influence of an external electric field, in order to extract the conductivity. Both numerical methods give the same result. By using only constant, isotropic cross sections, we are able to compare the numerical results and analytic formulas with excellent agreement. Using pQCD scattering with running coupling in the transport code allows us to contrast our results with recent lattice QCD data.

Abstract:Based on the quasiparticle model of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a color quantum path-integral Monte-Carlo (PIMC) method for the calculation of thermodynamic properties and—closely related to the latter—a Wigner dynamics method for calculation of transport properties of the QGP are formulated. The QGP partition function is presented in the form of a color path integral with a new relativistic measure instead of the Gaussian one traditionally used in the Feynman-Wiener path integral. A procedure of sampling color variables according to the SU(3) group Haar measure is developed for integration over the color variable. It is shown that the PIMC method is able to reproduce the lattice QCD equation of state at zero baryon chemical potential at realistic model parameters (i.e., quasiparticle masses and coupling constant) and also yields valuable insight into the internal structure of the QGP. Our results indicate that the QGP reveals quantum liquidlike(rather than gaslike) properties up to the highest considered temperature of 525 MeV. The pair distribution functions clearly reflect the existence of gluon-gluon bound states, i.e., glueballs, at temperatures just above the phase transition, while mesonlike qq¯ bound states are not found. The calculated self-diffusion coefficient agrees well with some estimates of the heavy-quark diffusion constant available from recent lattice data and also with an analysis of heavy-quark quenching in experiments on ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, however, appreciably exceeds other estimates. The lattice and heavy-quark-quenching results on the heavy-quark diffusion are still rather diverse. The obtained results for the shear viscosity are in the range of those deduced from an analysis of the experimental elliptic flow in ultrarelativistic heavy-ions collisions, i.e., in terms the viscosity-to-entropy ratio, 1/4π≲η/S<2.5/4π, in the temperature range from 170 to 440 MeV.

Abstract:Based on the kinetic theory, the non-Abelian medium property of hot Quark–Gluon Plasma is investigated. The nonlinearity of the plasma comes from two aspects: The nonlinear wave–wave interaction and self-interaction of color field. The non-Abelian color permittivity is obtained by expanding the kinetic equations to third order. As an application, the nonlinear Landau damping rate and the nonlinear eigen frequency shift are calculated in the longwave length limit.

Abstract:Abstract We review the transport properties of the strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in heavy-ion collisions at ultrarelativistic energies, i.e. out-of equilibrium, and compare them to the equilibrium properties. The description of the strongly interacting (non-perturbative) QGP in equilibrium is based on the effective propagators and couplings from the Dynamical QuasiParticle Model (DQPM) that is matched to reproduce the equation-of-state of the partonic system above the deconfinement temperature T c from lattice QCD. We study the transport coefficients such as the ratio of shear viscosity and bulk viscosity over entropy density, diffusion coefficients, electric conductivity etc versus temperature T and baryon chemical potential μ B . Based on a microscopic transport description of heavy-ion collisions we, furthermore, discuss which observables are sensitive to the QGP formation and its properties.

Abstract:The properties of quantum-chromo dynamics (QCD) nowadays are accessable by lattice QCD calculations at vanishing quark chemical potential $\mu_q$=0 but often lack a transparent physical interpretation. In this review we report about results from an extended dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM$^*$) in which the effective parton propagators have a complex selfenergy that depends on the temperature $T$ of the medium as well as on the chemical potential $\mu_q$ and the parton three-momentum ${\boldsymbol p}$ with respect to the medium at rest. It is demonstrated that this approach allows for a good description of QCD thermodynamics with respect to the entropy density, pressure etc. above the critical temperature $T_c \approx$ 158 MeV. Furthermore, the quark susceptibility $\chi_q$ and the quark number density $n_q$ are found to be reproduced simultaneously at zero and finite quark chemical potential. The shear and bulk viscosities $\eta, \zeta$, and the electric conductivity $\sigma_e$ from the DQPM$^*$ also turn out in close agreement with lattice results for $\mu_q$ =0. The DQPM$^*$, furthermore, allows to evaluate the momentum $p$, $T$ and $\mu_q$ dependencies of the partonic degrees of freedom also for larger $\mu_q$ which are mandatory for transport studies of heavy-ion collisions in the regime 5 GeV $< \sqrt{s_{NN}} <$ 10 GeV. We finally calculate the charm quark diffusion coefficient $D_s$ -- evaluated from the differential cross sections of partons in the medium for light and heavy quarks by employing the propagators and couplings from the DQPM -- and compare to the available lattice data. It is argued that the complete set of observables allows for a transparent interpretation of the properties of hot QCD.
Quarkonium transport in strongly coupled plasmas

Abstract:Suppression of open heavy flavors and quarkonia in heavy-ion collisions is among the most informative probes of the quark-gluon plasma. Interpreting the full wealth of data obtained from the collision events requires a precise understanding of the evolution of heavy quarks and quarkonia as they propagate through the nearly thermal and strongly coupled plasma. Systematic theoretical studies of quarkonium time evolution in the QGP in the regime where the temperature of the QGP is much smaller than the inverse of quarkonium size have only been carried out in the past few years. Such calculations require the evaluation of a gauge-invariant correlator of chromoelectric fields dressed with Wilson lines, which is similar to, but different from, the correlation used to define the well-known <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="hep-ph/0605199" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-ph/0605199">arXiv:hep-ph/0605199</a> heavy quark diffusion coefficient. The origin of this difference has been explained in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2107.03945" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2107.03945">arXiv:2107.03945</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2205.04477" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2205.04477">arXiv:2205.04477</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2306.13127" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.13127">arXiv:2306.13127</a>. Here we show the results of the calculation of the analogous correlator in strongly coupled $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM using the AdS/CFT correspondence at a finite temperature <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2304.03298" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.03298">arXiv:2304.03298</a>. While it resembles the open heavy quark case, it has some crucial differences that highlight the relevance of quantum color correlations. We will also discuss the results for the quarkonium transport coefficients obtained from this correlator, thereby establishing the first analytic results at strong coupling in this context. We find that they vanish in the strong coupling limit for an $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM plasma with a large number of colors.

Abstract:The shear viscosity of quark–gluon plasma (QGP) at leading logarithm order at finite temperature and chemical potential in weakly coupled limit is studied by solving transport equations. Abstract:We calculate transport coefficients of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) within the dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM) by explicitly computing the parton interaction rates as a function of temperature $T$ and baryon chemical potential $\mu_B$ on the basis of the DQPM couplings and partonic propagators. The latter are extracted from lattice QCD by matching the equation of state, entropy density and energy density at $\mu_B$= 0. For baryon chemical potentials $0 \leq \mu_B \leq 500 MeV$ we employ a scaling Ansatz for the effective coupling which was shown before to lead to thermodynamic consistent results in this range. We compute the ratio of the shear and bulk viscosities to the entropy density, i.e. $\eta/s$ and $\zeta/s$, the electric conductivity $\sigma_0/T$ as well as the baryon diffusion coefficient $\kappa_B$ and compare to related approaches from the literature. We find that the ratios $\eta/s$ and $\zeta/s$ as well as $\sigma_0/T$ are in accord with the results from lattice QCD at $\mu_B$=0 and only weakly depend on the ratio $T/T_c(\mu_B)$ where $T_c(\mu_B)$ denotes the critical temperature at finite baryon chemical potential.

Abstract:Color confinement is only a supposition, which has not been proved in QCD yet. It is proposed here that macroscopic quark gluon plasma in astrophysics could hardly maintain colorless because of causality. The authors expected that the existence of chromatic strange quark stars as well as chromatic strangelets preserved from the QCD phase transition in the early universe could be unavoidable if their colorless correspondents do exist.

Abstract:In the framework of irreversible thermodynamics, we study the transport properties of hot quark–gluon plasmas. The viscous entropy production at finite chemical potential as well as the shear viscosity to non-equilibrium entropy density ratio is investigated in weakly coupled limit by using kinetic theory. The results show that the chemical potential contributes positively to their ratio compared to the pure temperature case. The ratio exhibits two boundaries in the coupling strength in which a minimum value of 0.42 is found at αs = 0.6.

Abstract:We analyze the variation behavior of chiral quark condensates in vacuum and in strong interacting matter against the parameters in the effective gluon propagators in Dyson-Schwinger equation approach. The obtained results indicate that the quark confinement enhances the quark condensate, and the screening of the confinement suppresses the response of the condensate to the chemical potential.

Abstract:A quasiparticle model of the quark-gluon plasma is compared with lattice QCD data for purely imaginary chemical potential. Net quark number density, susceptibility as well as the deconfinement border line in the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter are investigated. In addition, the impact of baryochemical potential dependent quasiparticle masses is discussed. This accomplishes a direct test of the model for nonzero baryon density. The found results are compared with lattice QCD data for real chemical potential by means of analytic continuation and with a different (independent) set of lattice QCD data at zero chemical potential.

Abstract:We use a variational procedure to study finite density QCD in an approximation in which the interaction between quarks is modelled by that induced by instantons. We find that uniform states with conventional chiral symmetry breaking have negative pressure with respect to empty space at all but the lowest densities, and are therefore unstable. This is a precisely defined phenomenon which motivates the basic picture of hadrons assumed in the MIT bag model, with nucleons as droplets of chiral symmetry restored phase. At all densities high enough that the chirally symmetric phase fills space, we find that color symmetry is broken by the formation of a condensate of quark Cooper pairs. A plausible ordering scheme leads to a substantial gap in a Lorentz scalar channel involving quarks of two colors, and a much smaller gap in an axial vector channel involving quarks of the third color.
