Abstract:In the context of globalization, cultural exchange between the East and West is becoming increasingly frequent, and painting serves as a unique perspective for exploring cultural differences. In particular, flower-and-bird paintings and still-life paintings, as two major traditional painting genres, share similarities in selecting the subject and pursuing realism while maintaining their artistic characteristics, which both act as effective research models for cross-cultural comparative studies. This paper selects Li Song’s “Basket of Flowers”, a representative of Yuanti flower-and-bird paintingsy, and Caravaggio’s “Basket of Fruit”, an iconic one of the 17th-century Western classical still-life paintings. Through visual interpretation and cultural tracing, it analyzes the differences between the two in terms of color application, spatial organization, modelling techniques, and artistic spirit, to reveal the heterogeneity of floral subjects in Yuanti flower-and-bird paintings and Western classical still-life paintings, and to examine the different artistic values and humanistic spirits manifested in Chinese and Western paintings.

Abstract:The imagery in the novels of Lu Xun and Wang Zengqi frequently overlaps. This paper selects the three common images of tavern, road, and moon for comparison, aiming to analyze the unique emotions and deeper meanings each image carries in the works of these two writers. Lu Xuns novel writing is bold in its innovation, breaking free from the constraints of traditional frameworks, with most of his imagery reflecting and bearing the significance of the times, together constructing a literary world that profoundly reflects social realities and human nature. Inspired by Lu Xun, Wang Zengqis novel writing follows a path that returns to the ordinary, pursuing the beauty of harmony. The imagery in Wang Zengqis novels embodies a love for life, fulfilling his creative ideal of bringing warmth to the human world and his persistent pursuit of expressing the beauty of human nature.

This paper selects the masterpieces "Peony Pavilion" and "Romeo and Juliet" of the two great Chinese and Western dramatists, Tang Xianzu and Shakespeare, and compares and analyzes them in four aspects, namely, the background of the creation, plot design, main characters' image, and the ending of the love, so as to analyze the differences between the two works in the spirit of the Chinese and Western cultures, the way of thinking, the concepts of human beings, and the understanding of tragedy.

Abstract:Poetry is the creation of beauty and thus aesthetics is an important translation criterion for poetry. By fully understanding the two English translated versions of Qiangjinjiu respectively by Xu Yuanchong and Burton Watson, the thesis will make a comparative analysis of the two versions from the perspective of translation aesthetics. In order to better illustrate the connotation of poetry translation and translation aesthetics, the essay will mainly compare the poetic representation of the two English versions from the aspects of rhythm, form, image, culture and content, targeting to present the differences between the two English versions and offer some suggestions on poetry translation.

Abstract:Harmony in diversity is the basic requirement of the comparative study of Chinese and foreign poetics. Expressionism, as an important school of western literature, focuses on intuition and emphasizes performance. Their works focus on the expression of emotions, using a variety of artistic means to reflect the people’s inner activities and mental state, while ignoring the description of the form of the object, often in the form of distortion and abstraction of reality. Therefore, in the works of expressionist writers and artists, abstract, deformation, symbol, illusion and so on are presented. Chinese ancient literature also attached great importance to expression, but the view of expression in expressionism literature was obviously different from that in traditional Chinese poetics. These differences are influenced not only by the time factors, but also by the national cultural differences. Through the comparative study of the two, we can find the differences and connections of expression between Expressionism and Chinese traditional poetics and promote the further development of the expression theory in contemporary Chinese literature.

A comparative and analytical method was used. The study has established the similarity of these two cultures. The number of similarities between the two cultures cannot be explained exclusively by the similarity of the worldviews of ancient grain growers, but also by the cultural exchange between geographically distant territories. These data can serve as a basis for further comparisons of different cultures and help a wide range of experts: historians, archaeologists, geographers, and culturologists.

Abstract:Dong Qichang proposes"two schools of painting: north and south"in late Ming Dynasty of China, which aroused widely controversy lasting to today. With historical evidence many scholars criticized Dong Qichang’s painting style like comparing painting to Buddhist, emphasizing fast understanding while despising slow one, emphasizing hermit and fine workmanship, praising highly on literati’s painting while belittling college painting. This paper attempts to have a new review and explanation on Dong Qichang’s theory of "two schools of painting in north and south"by discussing the spirit of Chinese landscape painting. It holds that Dong’s theory is a conclusive demonstration on the hermit concept of Zhuangzi, the origin of Chinese landscape painting. The theory indicates an inner resource of Chinese literati which is the living spirit of landscape painting.

Abstract:As one of Lao She’s masterpieces, Teahouse is a gem and a milestone in Chinese drama which is renowned both domestically and internationally. This article examines the translation of Beijing dialects in two English versions of Teahouse translated by Ying Ruochen and Howard from the perspective of reception aesthetic theory. The results indicates that Ying’s version focuses on stage performance, using simple or concise language which to some extent differs from the aesthetic expectations of the target language readers, while Howard’s translation, aiming at readers’ acceptance, tends to employ formal expressions and lengthy sentence structures, which are less suitable for stage presentation and performance.By revealing the translation differences in local dialects in the versions under this theoretical framework, this paper is hoped to provide valuable insights for translation studies and practice.

Abstract:A Dream of Red Mansions and Gone with the Wind both feature many prominent female characters. Among them, Jia Tanchun in a Dream of Red Mansions and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind both have independent female thoughts. In spite of different time backgrounds and cultural tradition soil, the characters they portray have certain similarities. Comparing the similarities and differences of their independent thoughts can reveal the influence of social background on the development of feminism. The objective of the study is to make a comparison of these two characters and explore the inner link between the development of feminism and social background.

Abstract:The Shuzhuang Poetry Club matched evenly with the South Society in Shanghai in the aspects such as developing scale,existing time,writing achievement,impetus and influence,etc.However,since they had different social and historic backgrounds that formed themselves,different members and their attitude tendencies,different purposes of organization,requirements of revolution,orientations of culture,inheritances of poetic art,added into the affection of other factors for example organizational shape,operating mechanism,expenses source,and so on.the two organizations presented completely different developing views finally.Essentially,the South Society in Shanghai was a literature organization of nationalism revolution which "revolted the Qing Dinasty and repelled Manchu" at the end of the Qing Dinasty and at the beginning of the Republic of China,and the Shuzhuang Poetry Club was a literature organization that loved homeland but went into exiling on mainland,which "revolted Japan and recovered Taiwan" during the Period of Japan Occupying Taiwan.They respectively contained specific social connotation and unique historic significance.

Abstract:Hongloumeng, one of the masterpieces in China, a splendid history of classical literature, carries a large amount of Chinese traditional culture elements and culture-loaded words. This paper will apply skopos theory as the theoretical framework and analyze the translation of material culture-loaded words in Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yangs’ translation of A Dream of Red Mansions and The Story of the Stone by David Hawkes. And then the author will try to list some representative culture-loaded words and reveal that how the skopos influences the translators’ choice of translation methods and strategies in translation, and what effect or effects can be achieved. Some conclusions can be drawn.
