Abstract:Objective To determine the under-reporting and over-reporting of influenza A(H1N1) symptoms self-report data in the late 2009 among undergraduates of a university and to identify the influencing factors. Methods Both stratified and cluster sampling were used to obtain the samples in this university.Multivariate stepwise Logistic regression was used to identify the influencing factors of under-reporting and over-reporting.Results 30.9% of students with influenza A(H1N1) symptoms were not reported and 6.1% of students without influenza A(H1N1) symptoms were reported.Logistic regression showed that: ①Understanding the standards of reporting, free examination or treatment after reporting, believing that reporting can help control the epidemic were associated with less under-reporting.Being influenced by persons around, being isolated after reporting, believing not being infected by influenza A(H1N1) were positively correlated with over-reporting;②Students with high monthly living expenses were more likely to over-report.Measures like suspending classes or deferring examinations after reporting were related to increased over-reporting.Believing not being infected by influenza A(H1N1) and believing that reporting can help control the epidemic were associated with less over-reporting.Conclusions There is a considerable number of under-reporting and over-reporting existing in self-reports of influenza A(H1N1) symptoms among Chinese undergraduates. The government should reinforce the dissemination of prevention and control knowledge and reporting regulation among undergraduates, standardize the prevention and control measures in universities,so as to improve the quality of self-report for influenza A(H1N1) symptoms.
