Abstract:In this paper, a novel chirp based modulation and detection strategy for wireless communication systems using fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is presented. In this scheme, the input data are mapped onto two chirp signals which have different initial frequencies and the same chirp rate, the received signals are detected and extracted by using FrFT. We evaluate the performance of proposed system over general additive white Gaussion noise (AWGN) channel, simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) is improved greatly.

Abstract:The purpose of this project is to implement the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) on chirp signals and realize the detection and parameter estimation of different chirp signals. In the application of FrFT, pre-estimated method is proposed in this paper to improve the speed of peak searching in the parameter estimation, and suitable dimensional normalization method is selected. So that, a faster and more effective pre-estimation searching method is proposed, and the parameters such as the frequency modulation slope, center frequency, and amplitude can be estimated at the same time. From the simulation results, the estimation of parameters for multi-components chirp signals can be actualized based on FrFt, and the mixed signals can be identified successfully.

Abstract:Aim To propose a new approach to the detection and estimation for multicomponent chirp signals with unknown parameter using the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT). Methods The new method was investigated and simulated, based on the property of Chirp basis decomposition of FRFT and its relationship with the Wigner-Ville distribution(WVD). Results and Conclusion Compared with the WVD-HT method, the new FRFT based approach need not consider the cross-term interference in the case of multicomponent signals, therefore the WVD interpolation from the cartesian coordinates to the polar coordinates and the two dimensional sweeping procedure of the Hough transform can be omitted.

Abstract:This paper investigates the signal detection of multiple chirps based on the discrete chirp-Fourier transform (DCFT). The detection method based on signal energy is proposed and the detection performance is analyzed. Firstly, the relationship of signal energy in both the time and DCFT domain is analyzed. An important property is presented, that is, the total energy of the signal in the time domain is equal to the sum of energy along the direction of constant frequency in the DCFT domain. The detection decision threshold of the multicomponent chirp signal is derived in ideal noiseless environment. Secondly, by analyzing the characters of the additive independent identical distribution Gaussian white noise in the DCFT domain, the modified detection decision threshold of the multicomponent chirp signal is determined in noisy environment. Finally, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:By combining the FFT, FRFT and frequency domain differential, this paper proposes an efficient algorithm which can be used to estimate the value of chirp ratio of mono-component LFM signal approximately. The fundamental idea is to differentiate in frequency domain for highlighting lateral peaks. Then, the chirp ratio can be estimate approximately. Using FRFT to search the peak in a range of angle plane, the accurate parameters could be determined by corresponding rotation angle. Theoretic deduction and computer simulations prove the proposed algorithm can lock the scope of error effectively and anti-noise performance is well. Computational cost can reduce remarkable with the same precision.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of localizing the multiple distributed wideband chirp sources using the fractional Fourier transform. The model in the time domain and that in the fractional Fourier domain derived by the Taylor series expansion are presented respectively. The representation of location vector in the Dechirping domain is illustrated which is only related to the central angle. A novel direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm in the Dechirping domain is proposed, which is extended from the conventional multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm in the time domain. Using this algorithm, except for estimating the DOA, the incidence source number can be determined as well which is allowed to exceed the sensor number in the array. To demonstrate the performance of proposed algorithm, numerical results are conducted. Compared to the previous FrFT-MUSIC algorithm based on the assumption of point source model, the proposed algorithm performs a better estimation performance, especially for large angular spread and low signal-to-noise ratio.

Abstract:For the problem of the instantaneous frequency estimation of multi-component chirp signals, a new method is presented.And the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) method is applied to estimate instantaneous frequency of multi-component chirp signals.The chirp signal has the feature that different chirp signal can get the best energy concentration in its different fractional Fourier transform domain, so the multi-component chirp signals is firstly transformed through FrFT, and then we find the corresponding order p of the every energy concentration and make the p order FrFT through a band-pass filter, and then it picks up each component.Finally the instantaneous frequency of each single-component chirp signal is estimated if each signal's wigner-ville distribution is found.The simulation results verify the availability of the proposed method.

Abstract:The paper focuses on detection and parameter estimation of chirp signals in a noisy environment. Several approaches to such problem including the socalled RWT method, RAT method, and FRFT scan method are compared and analyzed. On the basis of analyzing these methods, an new method based on RAT and FRFT is presented. For the amplitude estimation of chirp signal, an expression which is suitable for computation is given. Computer simulations have verified the effectiveness of the method. Compared with RWT and FRFT scan methods, this method reduces the chirp detection to mere onedimensional search. Meanwhile, compared with pure RAT method, it can estimate efficiently the initial frequency and amplitude of chirp signals. Hence, this method suits for use on applications requiring multiple parameters joint estimation of chirp signals.

Abstract:A new method of time-frequency analysis,Fractional Fourier Transform (FRFT),is proposed for the target characteristics extraction.Shown by the results of simulation and experimental data with the chirp signal being transmitted,FRFT can concentrate the energy of target echo into the corresponding fractional domain which results in the properties of the fractional Fourier spectrum of target echo quite different from that of the reverberation,and contribute higher recognition accuracy than other time-frequency methods do.

Abstract:We present a new method of estimating the Chirp signal parameter based on fractional Fourier transform (FRFT). The slope of the Chirp single is firstly estimated using FRFT according to its expectation. By redefining the variable meaning of the FRFT and the improved FRFT, the time-delay of multiple Chirp signals is estimated. Abstract:The traditional signal processing method of chirp sub-bottom profiling is a type of matched filtering and is an optimal detector when there is no Doppler shift. Fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is a linear transformation whose orthogonal basis is a linear frequency modulation signal, so there is no cross term interference when processing multiple or multipath chirp signals. The central characteristic of FrFT is that it has a similar theoretical basis to pulse compression, which makes it possible to use FrFT in the signal processing of chirp sub-bottom profiling. In this paper, the basic principle and theory of chirp sub-bottom profiler signal processing based on FrFT is introduced in detail. Firstly, orthogonal transform is performed to obtain the corresponding analytical form of the echo signal, then the time domain signal is transformed to a fractional Fourier domain (u domain) by optimal FrFT, and the signal enhancement is done using the u domain shading method. Finally, time dimensional transform is used to get the time domain envelope signal of the enhanced sediment impulse response. Time dimensional transform is realized by sample sequence mapping, time offset compensation, extraction and low pass filtering. This process can transform a u domain signal to the time domain directly without complex calculations. Performance comparison of this method to matched filtering is given too, and recommendations for future work are presented.

Abstract:In this paper, a new time-frequency analysis method for multi-component chirp signals is presented. First we define the fourth-order fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) center moment spectrum and then we can get the number of signals and estimate the frequency modulation ratio of each component by analyzing the fourth-order FRFT center moment spectrum. Secondly, we present the signal-adaptive PWD (SA-PWD). Compared with other methods based on time-frequency analysis, this method can remove most of the cross-terms while keeping high time-frequency resolution. Finally, the computer simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach

Abstract:The fractional Fourier transform (FRFT), which is a generalization of the classical Fourier transform (FT), plays an important role in many areas of signal processing and optics. Many properties of this transform are well known. In the field of signal processing, the chirp signal has a good energy concentration in the fractional Fourier domain (FRFD) by choosing an appropriate fractional order, but the study of the fractional energy spectrum integral (FESI) is still missing. The purpose of this paper is to derive the FESI of the FRFT of chirp signal, from which an important property of the chirp signal's FRFT is discovered that the FESI reaches the valley value at the rotation angle where the FRFT reaches the peak value, and this provides a new approach to detect and estimate the parameter of the chirp signal.

Abstract:This paper proposes an adaptive short-time fractional Fourier transform. The proposed transform improves the resolution of the short-time Fourier transform for chirp signals, and avoids the cross-terms. The proposed adaptive short-time Fourier transform is based on the de-chirp effect of the fractional Fourier transform. It adaptively de-chirps the signal with time to achieve a high signal concentration in the time-frequency domain. An effective measure for local signal concentration is used to optimize the selection of the parameter of the fractional Fourier transform.

Abstract:Fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) is the generalization of traditional Fourier transform, and has attracted extensive attentions in the areas of time-frequency analysis, optics and image encryption. However, the research on fractional Fourier transform based signal processing methods in the area of wireless communications has not been fully extended. Hence, the introductions of traditional fractional Fourier transform and weighted fractional Fourier transform were given in this paper, and then the applications of these two fractional Fourier transforms were presented. Firstly, signals separation and channel estimation were realized using the energy concentration property of Chirp signals in traditional fractional Fourier transform domain. Then, interferences suppression performance was improved by the weighted fractional Fourier transform based cooperation between single carrier system and multiple carrier system. Finally, the sample rate and reconstruction error can be reduced by selecting proper transform order in the weighted fractional Fourier transform domain.

Abstract:As a generalization of classical Fourier transformation (FT), the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) outperforms many other time frequency analysis techniques with its higher time-frequency resolution, but it is quite new to be employed into the biomedical signal processing. In this paper, the FrFT has been investigated for the application of biomedical signal detection, which shows to be effective to nonstationary weak signal detection in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The second-order fractional FT moments and estimation are used for the multi-component chirps and interference situation. The results indicate the great advantage on biomedical signal detection by FrFT.

Abstract:By modulating a linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal onto a high-frequency carrier and transmitting it through the parametric acoustic array (PAA), the self-demodulation low-frequency signal (SD-LFM) can be generated in the far field, which settles the problem of detection range and high range resolution preferably in application. Compared with traditional signal processing method such as pulse compression, fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is more suitable for time-frequency analysis of LFM and SD-LFM signals. A FrFT approach for parametric array sub-bottom profiler signal processing is proposed in this paper. First, SD-LFM signal generated by PAA is studied, then optimal fractional Fourier transform is performed to obtain the energy centralized signal in fractional Fourier domain (u domain). After that, u domain windowed filtering is done to filter out the in-band noise and enhance the signal. Finally, time dimensional transformation is used to get the high-quality sub-bottom profile in time domain. The performance of the proposed method is verified by simulations, which indicate the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Abstract:A novel denoising method for chirp-like signal that relies on the time-frequency analysis is described. Because the region of chirp signal in time-frequency (TF) map is well-concentrated relative to the widely distributed noise, the wavelet coefficients corresponding to the true signal can be extracted by a masking operation. And a new procedure is presented to design the mask and reconstruct the true signal from the filtered wavelet coefficients. Our simulation result indicates that using the method proposed in this paper can increase SNR value of chirp signal significantly. Finally, the denoising method is applied to aircraft flight flutter testing in an attempt to better estimate the nonparametric transfer function from the flight test data.
