The passenger travel choice behavior mechanism under the competition of common rail and express bus

Abstract:In order to explore and quantitatively reveal competitive factors and effects of express bus and common railway, passengers' traveling choice behavior experiment was overall and scientifically designed for the full process of ticket buying, arrival, transit transfer, traveling and departure. The experiment aimed to acquire RP data of passengers' traveling activity and analyze passengers' ticket buying features, gathering and distribution features, traveling features and service quality perception level. Common railway and express bus served as passengers' transportation mode choice items, and characteristic variables influencing passengers' transportation choice were set. Express bus was used as the reference mode to establish transportation choice model and study the action mechanism and effect of multi-dimensional influence factors on common railway and express bus. The research results show that car ownership, ticket buying via network, arrival time, distance, comfort and punctuality are the significant factors influencing the competition between common railway and express bus. Elastic factors are sorted in descending order as follows: punctuality, comfort and distance, and their corresponding values of elasticity are 1.86, 1.66 and 1.58, respectively. The research results have certain theoretical value and practical significance for enriching and improving regional transportation choice behavior theory and revealing coupling mechanism of regional transportation mode.
