Abstract:Merger and acquisition has been drawing much attention to enterprisers and scholars thanks to its importance to company's development and competitiveness.Previous study on merger and acquisition has mainly focused on the motive and the value creation of mergers and acquisitions.There are considerable empirical studies in which the methods of market research,financial benchmarking and case study are widely used.The study on post merger and acquisition integration recognizes that all value creation primarily comes from the integration of resource post merger and acquisition.Study of how marketing and operation integration affect post merger and acquisition performance is rooted in the resource-based theory,which explains superior performance by specific resources owned by the company.This paper is based on the sample data collected from questionnaire survey of 43 horizontal LPG M&A cases in China from year 2000 to year 2006 and the regression model is utilized for the empirical study of how the post mergers and acquisitions integration affects the firm performance.The results show that the integration of market and operation should be emphasized during the post merger and acquisition and the extent and speed of integration in market and operation have a positive impact on the post mergers and acquisitions market performance;meanwhile high extent of integration results in cost savings due to synergy effect;however,the economy scale resulting from the market performance post mergers and acquisitions might not necessarily make up for all the costs within a short period of time;ultimately,the cost saving from both firms makes notable and direct improvement in firm financial performance and the market performance post Merger and Acquisition has a positive impact on the improvement of financial performance.The results also show that the mergers and acquisitions from foreign investors create more notable cost savings than those of domestic investors and it is mainly due to the introduction of new technology and equipment and the application of management system.
