Abstract:Competition among trees within a population exists when resource availability falls below the sum requirement of the population for optimal growth.Competition for both aboveground and belowground resources takes place over different-sized zones.It is important to choose the suitable competition index to study the competition intensity.Through analysis and simulation using sample plot data,a competitive index objectively reflecting the competition and growth pattern of Larix chinensis has been selected.The results have showed that the improved competition index and method for qualifying the competition zone are more suitable for studying the neighborhood competition.
