Abstract:This paper introduces a method that used perceptual criterion to reduce the complexity of the filtering (convolution) methods for applications above.The proposed method is called Perceptual Fast Filtering(PFF).The results show that PFF provides almost the same quality as normal fast filtering method,but with less computation.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a compact threshold-based resampling algorithm and architecture for efficient hardware implementation of particle filters (PFs). By using a simple threshold-based scheme, this resampling algorithm can reduce the complexity of hardware implementation and power consumption. Simulation results indicate that this algorithm has approximately equal performance with the traditional systematic resampling (SR) algorithm when the root-mean-square error (RMSE) and lost track are considered. Experimental comparison of the proposed hardware architecture with those based on the SR and the residual systematic resampling (RSR) algorithms was conducted on a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro field programmable gate array (FPGA) platform in the bearings-only tracking context, and the results establish the superiority of the proposed architecture in terms of high memory efficiency, low power consumption, and low latency.
Adaptive and Fast Blind Pixel Correction of IRFPA

Abstract:A fast blind pixel correction method based on three-gradient threshold detection was designed in this paper,to achieve adaptive and fast blind pixel correction of the Infrared Focal Plane Array (IRFPA).First, a constraint equation through optimization of L0 paradigm was used to eliminate the interference of non-uniform stripe;then gradient threshold detection was respectively conducted in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions to find out the position of the blind pixel, thus through a point-to-point matching with the median filtering results to remove the inaccurate detecting point;finally, blind pixel correction was completed through local median filtering.In the process, reasonable updating of the blind pixel template, based on slow variation of blind pixel, was carried out to achieve fast blind pixel correction of single-frame and sequential images.The results show that compared with traditional method, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) achieved by using this proposed method is improved by 10~14dB, with the structured similarity (SSIM) index improved by 0.01~0.02;both random blind pixel and continuous blind pixel in the images can be effectively corrected, and the computing speed is dramatically improved, with a speed advantage of 3~10 times while ensuring the image quality.Hence, such proposed method can be used to achieve dynamic detection and real-time processing in actual infrared system.
Simple and Efficient Loop-Filtering for Low Bit-Rate Coding

Abstract:A loop-filter for removing the block effect based on the characteristics of variable length coding and the corresponding principle of picture character behavior both in time and frequency domain was proposed. The loop-filter analyzes the coded frame identity in DCT domain, chooses an appropriate filtering mode to adaptively maintain the authenticity of the reconstructed frame, and uses some appropriate and simple parameters to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results showed that the proposed method improves the reconstructed frame quality, which saves the cost expended in motion estimation to countervail the burden caused by filtering, and ensrues the real-time processing of encoding.
Perceptually Deblocking Filtering Algorithm in Multiview Video Decoding

Abstract:The deblocking filtering for multiview video coding plays a major role in improving the image visual quality, but it has high computation complexity. This paper proposes a perceptual deblocking filtering algorithm based on just noticeable distortion model. By properly considering of the human visual characteristic, a perceptual deblocking filtering decision is integrated into the deblocking process to decrease computational complexity of the deblocking filtering. Experimental results show that the proposed deblocking filtering algorithm can achieve decoding time saving significantly with negligible quality degradation.
Fast detail-preserving exposure fusion

Abstract:A fast exposure fusion method was proposed to obtain high dynamic range target information from multi‐exposure sequence .A new weight map was proposed ,which gave consideration to both local details and global brightness .Secondly ,on the premise of small time cost ,a dow n‐up‐sampling computing method for the weight map was proposed ,which could preserve local details well and eliminate artificial halos caused by pixel level fusion .And then ,guided filter was used to remove the block artifact caused by up‐sampling . The validity of the proposed fusion method was demonstrated by ten multi‐exposure sequences ,and the proposed fusion method was contrasted with three typicals of fusion algorithms .The experimental results show that the proposed fusion method has strongest retention capacity of the local details and the global brightness distribution of target scene .The quantitative comparison results show that the proposed method achieves better fusion qualiity ,meanw hile ,and the time cost is pretty small .

Abstract:Fractional pixel motion estimation is applied in H.264 to achieve more accurate motion vectors and higher compression efficiency. It, however, distinctly increased complexity in the procedure of motion estimation. In this paper, we propose an adaptive and fast fractional pixel search algorithm (AFFPS) to reduce the computation load of motion estimation in H.264. Since the sum of absolute difference (SAD) surface is unimodal within the range of ±1 pixel, it can be approximated by line functions in a small area around the optimum motion vector. A novel bypass strategy for fractional pixel search based on these line functions is first proposed to skip unnecessary fractional pixel search. Then, an all-zero block (AZB) detection-based strategy is proposed to terminate ineffective fractional pixel search early. The proposed fractional search algorithm is presented, which adopts the two strategies and greatly improves the center-biased fractional pixel search (CBFPS) method. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce more than 71% of the fractional pixel search points and still maintain similar coding efficiency.
Fast and efficient mean filtering algorithm for removing the salt and pepper noise

Abstract:Fast and efficient mean filter algorithm is proposed to overcome the drawbacks of some classic algorithms.For the suspected noise pixel,the algorithm firstly create a set composed of signal pixels selected from the borders of 3 ×3 filtering window,then noise is removed by means of mean filtering if the set composed of signal pixels is not emp-ty;else the image is restored based on the method mentioned above by enlarging filtering window until the set com-posed of signal pixels is not empty. The experimental results show that this algorithm has excellent filtering perform-ance for all noise ratios from 1% to 99%,besides,the algorithm can preserve the details of the image very well and the computation time is very short,it is useful in practical application.
Fast image dehazing using guided filter

Abstract:Images acquired in bad weather, such as haze and fog, are seriously degraded by the scatting of the atmosphere. In this paper, a novel fast image dehazing method using guided filter is proposed. Before guided filter processing, the rough transmission map and the guidance image employ nearest neighbor interpolation down-sampling, to zoom out on the input images of guided filter and reduce the processing of guided filter time complexity. After guided filter processing, the guided filter output image employs bilinear interpolation up-sampling, to zoom in on the output image of guided filter and get the refining transmission map. Results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves good dehazing effect as well as speeds up the dehazing processing. With the improvements, the proposed method may be applied in video surveillance, intelligent transportation system and remote sensing.
A Fast Image Defogging Method

Abstract:The image captured in foggy weather is often degraded, traditional defogging algorithms take a long time.Concerning this issue, in this paper, we propose a fast defogging method based on the quickly edge-preserving filtering algorithm, and apply it into image defogging.First, the atmospheric veil is estimated by taking use of the properties that the quickly edge-preserving filtering is available to preserve edge and smooth noise, so as we can solve the atmospheric transmittance distribution. Then, estimating the atmospheric light by quadtree search algorithm .Finally, the haze-free image is recovered by transfouning the atmospheric scattering model. The experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively restore the fog image,and has a small time complexity, which is beneficial to the realization of real-time defogging.
Toward Low-Computation Light Field Displays by Foveated Rendering

Abstract:Recently, glass-free light field displays of multi-layer architecture have gradually entered the commercial stage. However, for near-eye displays, light field rendering still suffers from expensive computational costs. It can hardly achieve an acceptable framerate for real-time displays. This work develops a novel light field display pipeline that uses two gaze maps to reconstruct display patterns of foveated vision effect. With the acceleration of GPU and the emerging eye-tracking technique, the gaze cone can be updated instantaneously. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed display pipeline can support near-correct retinal-blur with foveated vision and high framerate at low-computation.
Real-time foveation filtering using nonlinear Mipmap interpolation

Abstract:In recent years, several techniques have been proposed to simulate the gaze effect of the Human Visual System (HVS). It is believed that this effect is due to the foveation filtering. Current techniques to simulate the foveation filtering in computer graphics are either slow or suffer from artifacts and limitations. In this paper, we present a new approach of foveation filtering based on the Mipmap Pyramid of the current view by considering the relationship between the Gaussian kernel and Mipmap level. Due to the nonlinear Mipmap interpolation under the Bilateral Filtering scheme, we are able to simulate the foveation filtering more naturally and efficiently than in previous work. Moreover, a detail enhancement method based on the Cornsweet illusion is proposed to augment the gazing effect. We demonstrate our new approach with a variety of examples and provide comparisons with recent approaches.
Superfast median filter realized easily by hardware

Abstract:In the processing of low light level image, median filter cannot only suppress the image snow noise effectively, but also protect the image edge and details better. A new median filter method, named as superfast median filter, is studied in this paper. This method is fast, simple and convenient, so it can be realized easily by hardware. The design thought of this filter is calculating the two-dimensional filtering matrix by separating it into one-dimension. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that for a square n �� n filtering window, the operational speed of this method is n times the speed of the general median filter, but the processing results are the same. This filtering method is very valuable for hardware real-time processing.

Abstract:The median filter not only suppresses interference pulse and punctiform noise ,but also keeps the image details better ,therefore it plays an important role in many image processing .Moving object recognition technology needs higher and higher real‐time quality in image preprocessing .In order to improve the preprocessing speed ,we study the filtering algorithm and implementation scheme based on the median filter principle .And a fast image median filtering method based on the order statistics theory is proposed to realize real‐time filtering .The results show that this method is the improvement of traditional median filtering sorting algorithm on hardware system ,making 9 pixels of 2 dimension reduce to 5 pixels of 1 dimension to find the median in window 3 × 3 .The comparing times ,finding the median in single window ,change from traditional sort of 36 times down to 16 times .Combined with the FPGA parallel processing ability and pipeline structure ,filtering speed increases by almost four times ,so as to satisfy the real‐time image preprocessing .
Fast image filtering algorithm for specialty paper defects detection and its implementation

Abstract:A fast image filtering algorithm based on Perona and Mailik’s anisotropic diffusion model is put forward for solving the problem that the requirement for specialty paper defects detecting can not be met in the existing methods.Perona and Mailik’s anisotropic diffusion model is adopted to protect those subtle edges of specialty paper defects while images for paper being filtered.With the help of SMP system and multi-threading technology,Perona and Mailik’s anisotropic diffusion is performed by the parallel iterative algorithm to ensure the rapidity of image filtering algorithm for specialty paper defects detection.Experimental result shows that adopting this method,subtle edges of specialty paper defects are able to be detected and the real-time performance of this method is significantly better than the traditional implementation of Perona and Mailik’s anisotropic diffusion model filtering.

Abstract:<p>Which kind of edges should be preserved in texture smoothing, that is a major concern for experts. More recently, co-occurrence filter (CoF) gives a refreshing answer: in contrast to ordinary edges, the prominent structure edges (i.e., boundaries) ought to be given a prior consideration. In texture smoothing, CoF employs co-occurrence matrix to separate different edges in an image to preserve structures. However, the collection of co-occurrence information in the filter is pixel-wise, which is fragile to noises. To overcome the drawback, we extend CoF to a novel version, named patch-based co-occurrence filter with fast adaptive kernel (FAKPCoF). Different from acquiring pixel-wise co-occurrence matrix, FAKPCoF collects the co-occurrence information based on patches, which is more robust to noises. And rather than spatial Gaussian in CoF, an adaptive kernel is employed to keep the sharpness of edges. Meanwhile, to break through the computational bottleneck induced by the adaptive operation, a fast variant of the adaptive kernel is designed. Thorough experimental results demonstrate that the proposed FAKPCoF reveals more powerful performance both in texture smoothing and structure-preserving.</p>

Fast Defogging Algorithm Based on Adaptive Exponentially Weighted Moving Average Filtering

Abstract:The classical dark channel prior defogging algorithm easily loses image details. Alternatively, the defogging algorithm based on edge-preserving filtering can effectively protect image details; however, it is time-consuming. Aiming at the aforementioned problems, this paper proposed an adaptive exponentially weighted moving average filtering algorithm that protected image edge details while taking less time. Combined with an improved dark channel, this method achieved fast and precise defogging. First, the improved dark-channel algorithm was applied to obtaining a rough distribution of atmospheric transmittance. Second, the transmittance was optimized by employing the adaptive exponentially weighted moving average filtering algorithm. Subsequently, the transmittance of the bright region was repaired to avoid color distortion. Finally, the defogged image was processed using the transformation of the atmospheric scattering model. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a high execution speed; moreover, the defogged image processed using the proposed algorithm has good performance under the following three nonreference objective evaluation indexes: effective edge intensity, color reproduction ability, and structural information.

Reduced Complexity Deblocking Filter for H.264

Abstract:This paper analyzes the theory of the deblocking filter system in H.264, and proposes a fast deblocking filter based onBS pre- determination. Results of simulation experiment prove its obvious performance in reducing almost 70% of the complexity indeblocking filter without influencing the picture quality. It is good for the real time application of H.264 decoder.

Abstract:The direct fast iterative filtering (dFIF) is a novel time–frequency signal processing technique for non-stationary and non-linear signals, which can be considered the improved method of fast iterative filtering (FIF). Firstly, the equivalent impulse response is analyzed based on extensive numerical experiments to reveal the performances of dFIF. And then, fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) with different Hurst exponents is constructed to study the power spectrum density (PSD) and the frequency band distribution of the equivalent filter banks of the dFIF. The corresponding comparison analysis results are also illustrated, including empirical mode decomposition (EMD), variational mode decomposition (VMD) and db4-wavelet transform. Furthermore, the zero-crossings detection and estimate of empirical variance analysis of IMFs are performed, which indicates that dFIF does not follow a dyadic filter bank. Based on these findings, two application cases are presented in extracting time-varying oscillations and trends using dFIF, EMD and VMD. The results show that with appropriate parameter selection, dFIF performs better than EMD and VMD in terms of decomposition orthogonality, accuracy and anti-mode mixing.

A Quick Study of a Single Image Defogging Algorithm

Abstract:In foggy conditions, acquired images have low contrast ratio and low scene visibility problems. The traditional defogging algorithm has high time complexity and low speed characteristics and can not be applied in real-time image processing. Thus, a single image restoration method based on mean filter is proposed in this paper combined with the optical properties of atmospheric. In this method, on the basis of atmospheric scattering model, accurate atmospheric dissipation function can be achieved firstly by using mean filter. Atmosphere light is obtained by quadtree algorithm which is more efficient. Finally, restored image is calculated by the atmospheric scattering model and the brightness of the image is adjusted, and a clear image without fog is gained. Simulation results show that this algorithm has a strong adaptability to various scenes and restored images have plentiful colors. Compared with the classic defogging algorithm, this algorithm ensures the defogging effect while overcomes the high time complexity and low speed defects of guide filter algorithm.
