Abstract:We give two Frankl-like results of set systems with restrictions on set difference sizes and set symmetric difference sizes modulo prime powers. Based on the similar method, we also give a bound on codes satisfying the properties of Hamming distance modulo prime powers.

Abstract:In this paper, we first give a corollary to Snevily’s Theorem on L-intersecting families, which implies a result that cuts by almost half the bound given by Grolmusz and Sudakov (2002), and provide a k-wise extension to the theorem by Babai et al. (2001) on set systems with L-intersections modulo prime powers which implies polynomial bounds for such families. We then extend Alon–Babai–Suzuki type inequalities on set systems to k-wise L-intersecting families and derive a result which improves the existing bound substantially for the non-modular case. We also provide the first known polynomial bounds for codes with restricted Hamming distances for all prime powers moduli pt, in contrast with Grolmusz’s result from Grolmusz (2006) that for non-prime power composite moduli, no polynomial bound exists for such codes.

Abstract:In direct spread CDMA systems, codebooks meeting the Welch bounds are used to distinguish among the signals of different users. Recently, constructions of codebooks with difference sets meeting Welch's bound on the maximum cross-correlation amplitude were developed. In this paper, a generic construction of codebooks using almost difference sets is considered and several classes of codebooks nearly meeting the Welch bound are obtained. The parameters of the codebooks constructed in this paper are new.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a common generalization to the well-known Erdös–Ko–Rado Theorem, Frankl–Wilson Theorem, Alon–Babai–Suzuki Theorem, and Snevily Theorem on set systems with L -intersections. As a consequence, we derive a result which strengthens substantially the well-known theorem on set systems with k -wise L -intersections by Füredi and Sudakov [ J. Combin. Theory, Ser. A , 105 , 143–159 (2004)]. We will also derive similar results on L -intersecting families of subspaces of an n -dimensional vector space over a finite field F q , where q is a prime power.

Abstract:Codebooks are widely applied in code-division multiple-access systems. Recently, several authors constructed codebooks meeting or nearly meeting the Welch bound (i.e. nearly optimal codebooks) using difference set, almost difference set, relative difference set, and so on. In this paper, we will give two families of nearly optimal codebooks. First, we give a class of new almost difference sets and use them to construct nearly optimal codebooks. Second, we present a general construction of codebooks from partial difference sets and obtain several classes of nearly optimal codebooks.

Abstract:In this paper, the value of Imax(C) for codebooks C = C(D) constructed by certain almost difference sets D in Fqx is determined and expressed in terms of Jacobi sums from which it shows that such codebooks nearly meet the Welch bound. This result is an answer of a question raised by C.Ding and T.Feng in [2]. We also present another series of codebooks which nearly meet the Welch bound, where the codebook is constructed by a subset R = Fq1 ⊕ Fq2. When q1 = q2, Dε is an almost difference set of R.

Abstract:Cyclotomy, firstly introduced by Gauss, is an important topic in Mathematics since it has a number of applications in number theory, combinatorics, coding theory and cryptography. Depending on \begin{document}$ v $\end{document} prime or composite, cyclotomy on a residue class ring \begin{document}$ {\mathbb{Z}}_{v} $\end{document} can be divided into classical cyclotomy or generalized cyclotomy. Inspired by a foregoing work of Zeng et al. [40], we introduce a generalized cyclotomy of order \begin{document}$ e $\end{document} on the ring \begin{document}$ {\rm GF}(q_1)\times {\rm GF}(q_2)\times \cdots \times {\rm GF}(q_k) $\end{document}, where \begin{document}$ q_i $\end{document} and \begin{document}$ q_j $\end{document} (\begin{document}$ i\neq j $\end{document}) may not be co-prime, which includes classical cyclotomy as a special case. Here, \begin{document}$ q_1 $\end{document}, \begin{document}$ q_2 $\end{document}, \begin{document}$ \cdots $\end{document}, \begin{document}$ q_k $\end{document} are powers of primes with an integer \begin{document}$ e|(q_i-1) $\end{document} for any \begin{document}$ 1\leq i\leq k $\end{document}. Then we obtain some basic properties of the corresponding generalized cyclotomic numbers. Furthermore, we propose three classes of partitioned difference families by means of the generalized cyclotomy above and \begin{document}$ d $\end{document}-form functions with difference balanced property. Afterwards, three families of optimal constant composition codes from these partitioned difference families are obtained, and their parameters are also summarized.
On Nearly Perfect Covering Codes

Abstract:Nearly perfect packing codes are those codes that meet the Johnson upper bound on the size of error-correcting codes. This bound is an improvement to the sphere-packing bound. A related bound for covering codes is known as the van Wee bound. Codes that meet this bound will be called nearly perfect covering codes. In this paper, such codes with covering radius one will be considered. It will be proved that these codes can be partitioned into three families depending on the smallest distance between neighboring codewords. Some of the codes contained in these families will be completely characterized. Other properties of these codes will be considered too. Construction for codes for each such family will be presented, the weight distribution and the distance distribution of codes from these families are characterized. Finally, extended nearly perfect covering code will be considered and unexpected equivalence classes of codes of the three types will be defined based on the extended codes.

Abstract:We confirm a conjecture of Cun Sheng Ding~\cite{Ding-Discrete} claiming that the punctured value-sets of a list of eleven trinomials over odd-degree extensions of the binary field give rise to difference sets with Singer parameters. In the course of confirming the conjecture, we show that these trinomials share the remarkable property that every element of the value-set of each trinomial has either one or four preimages. We also give a partial resolution of another conjecture of Cun Sheng Ding~\cite{Ding-Discrete} claiming that linear codes constructed from those eleven trinomials are tri-weight.

Abstract:Separating codes have their applications in collusion-secure fingerprinting for generic digital data, while they are also related to the other structures including hash family, intersection code and group testing. In this paper we study upper bounds for separating codes. First, some new upper bound for restricted separating codes is proposed. Then we illustrate that the Upper Bound Conjecture for separating Reed-Solomon codes inherited from Silverberg's question holds true for almost all Reed-Solomon codes.

Abstract:Codes in the sum-rank metric have received many attentions in recent years, since they have wide applications in the multishot network coding, the space-time coding and the distributed storage. Fundamental bounds, some explicit or probabilistic constructions of sum-rank codes and their decoding algorithms have been developed in previous papers. In this paper, we construct covering codes in the sum-rank metric from covering codes in the Hamming metric. Then some upper bounds on sizes of covering codes in the sum-rank metric are presented. Block length functions of covering codes in the sum-rank metric are also introduced and studied. As applications of our upper bounds on covering codes in the sum-rank metric and block length functions, several strong Singleton-like bounds on sum-rank codes are proposed and proved. These strong Singleton-like bounds are much stronger than the Singleton-like bound for sum-rank codes, when block lengths are larger and minimum sum-rank distances are small. An upper bound on sizes of list-decodable codes in the sum-rank metric is also given, which leads to an asymptotic bound on list-decodability of sum-rank codes. We also give upper bounds on block lengths of general MSRD codes.

Abstract:Cyclic codes are important in both theory and practice and have wide applications in communication and storage systems. It is interesting to construct infinite families of binary cyclic codes, where dimensions are close to half of the length and the minimum distances approach the square-root bound. Motivated by recent works on binary cyclic codes published by Tang and Ding (2022)[9] and Liu et al. (2023) [4], the objective of this paper is to construct several infinite families of binary cyclic codes of length and dimensions close to half of the length. We developed some lower bounds on their minimum distances using the BCH bound for cyclic codes, which exhibit square-root-like lower bounds. The parameters of the dual codes of these binary cyclic codes were also investigated.

Abstract:We construct explicitly two infinite families of genuine nonadditive 1-error correcting quantum codes and prove that their coding subspaces are 50% larger than those of the optimal stabilizer codes of the same parameters via the linear programming bound. All these nonadditive codes can be characterized by a stabilizer-like structure and thus their encoding circuits can be designed in a straightforward manner.

Abstract:If $S$ is a transitive metric space, then $|C|\cdot|A| \le |S|$ for any distance-$d$ code $C$ and a set $A$, ``anticode'', of diameter less than $d$. For every Steiner S$(t,k,n)$ system $S$, we show the existence of a $q$-ary constant-weight code $C$ of length~$n$, weight~$k$ (or $n-k$), and distance $d=2k-t+1$ (respectively, $d=n-t+1$) and an anticode $A$ of diameter $d-1$ such that the pair $(C,A)$ attains the code--anticode bound and the supports of the codewords of $C$ are the blocks of $S$ (respectively, the complements of the blocks of $S$). We study the problem of estimating the minimum value of $q$ for which such a code exists, and find that minimum for small values of $t$.
