What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve The paper aims to address several key issues associated with tin selenide (SnSe₂) as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries: 1. **Moderate Conductivity**: SnSe₂ has poor electrical conductivity. 2. **Inevitable Aggregation Issue**: During charge and discharge cycles, SnSe₂ nanosheets tend to aggregate, leading to a significant decline in cycling stability. 3. **Massive Volume Expansion**: SnSe₂ undergoes more than 300% volume expansion during charge and discharge, which is a major obstacle for large-scale battery applications. To solve these problems, the researchers prepared a composite material of SnSe₂ and MXene (Ti₃C₂Tx) and synthesized a layered SnSe₂/Ti₃C₂Tx composite material through an electrostatic assembly method. This composite material not only combines the high theoretical capacity of SnSe₂ and the high conductivity of Ti₃C₂Tx but also exhibits synergistic effects, including: - Inhibiting the self-stacking issue of Ti₃C₂Tx; - Preventing the aggregation of SnSe₂ nanosheets; - Mitigating the volume expansion of SnSe₂ nanosheets during cycling; - Increasing the specific surface area, which is beneficial for the kinetics of sodium ions as well as the penetration of the electrolyte and rapid ion diffusion. With these improvements, the SnSe₂/Ti₃C₂Tx composite material demonstrates excellent sodium storage performance at high specific capacity, with a capacity decay rate of only about 0.06% after 445 cycles. This indicates that the composite material has outstanding reversibility and cycling stability.
