Abstract:Communicating through the internet has become popular in recent years. From messaging to making video calls, the communication network is required. Such networks should possess an algorithm for connecting two or more people via the internet. Several protocols and algorithms were launched for communication networks to have efficient performance. The design of an algorithm is an essential part of any communication over the internet. The popularity of natural and bioinspired algorithms has reached a new high and is implemented in industries. The reason for the popularity is because of the adaptability, survivability, robustness, complexity, and evolution of the algorithms. Such algorithms are based on natural phenomena such as biological, chemical, and microbiological processes. Some examples include the firefly algorithm, bee algorithm, bat algorithm, genetic algorithm, artificial immune system, ant colony optimization algorithm, and more. Bioinspired algorithms are divided into evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms. Future communication networks can be developed with the help of these algorithms depending on their nature. The aspects of natural and biological processes represent the behavior of the respective inspired algorithm. Ant colony optimization algorithm exhibits the capability of withstanding heavy load and provides search space for optimal routing. The artificial immune system is suitable for the network with dynamic load nature and demand. For networking at the nanoand microscale, living cells, and cellular signaling networks are the best biological examples. With the rapidly changing scenario of the technological world, communication network principles keep getting upgraded, and natural and bioinspired algorithms possess the ability to adapt to any nature of the network. The objective of this Special Issue is to present a forum for discussing the concepts and latest advancements related to future communication networks using natural and bioinspired algorithms. The summary of these papers is as follows. The paper “An intelligent ensemble of long-short-term memory with genetic algorithm for network anomaly identification” develops an anomaly detection model for networks using a homogenous ensemble of long-short-term-memory integrated with genetic algorithm utilized for feature extraction. And the proposed ensemble model performs excellently on the datasets. The paper “Hybrid machine learning approach for community and overlapping community detection in social network” proposes a novel dual examining and hybrid machine learning approaches for community and overlapping community detection. Extensive simulation results show better performance than single examining methods in terms of accuracy of mutual information, ratio of community, run time, and average degree in proposed hybrid machine learning approach-based community detection. The paper “Network security situation prediction based on combining associated entropy and deep recurrent neural network” proposes an algorithm of network security situation prediction combining entropy correlation and deep time series network model. This model has stronger fuzzy evaluation ability, stronger ability to deal with conflict opinions among experts, more accurate prediction of network security situation in time sequence, and higher robustness, but the efficiency of the algorithm has been maintained. The paper “Blockchain and extreme learning machine based spectrum management in cognitive radio networks” presents a new machine learning with blockchain-based spectrum management technique in cognitive radio network. Under the presence of −20 dB SNR, the proposed method has attained a maximum detection rate of 0.68, whereas the KNN and OR rule methods have demonstrated a minimum detection rate of 0.58 and 0.5, respectively. The paper “Design of an energy-efficient IoT device with optimized data management in sports person health monitoring application” proposed an IoT-based hierarchical health monitoring model (IoT-HHMM) to improve the efficiency factor by minimizing the energy consumption to achieve effective assessment of sports person health monitoring wearables. This IoT-HHMM achieves a high accuracy ratio of 98.4%, a sensitivity ratio of 92.5%, and a performance ratio of 96.7% when compared with traditional approaches. In summary, this Special Issue can be a useful reference to academia, researchers, and industrial practitioners who are interested in recent relevant advancement.
