Abstract:We obtain structural results about group ring codes over F[G], where F is a finite field of characteristic p > 0 and the Sylow p-subgroup of the Abelian group G is cyclic. As a special case, we characterize cyclic codes over finite fields in the case the length of the code is divisible by the characteristic of the field. By the same approach we study cyclic codes of length m over the ring R = F (q) [u], u (r) = 0 with r > 0, gcd(m, q) = 1. Finally, we give a construction of quasi-cyclic codes over finite fields.

Abstract:Based on the factorization properties of cyclotomic polynomials over finite field F q ,We construct a class of linear codes which are the generation of Reed Solomon codes and the codes constructed by Chaoing Xing and San ling.More new codes can be obtained by using our construction methods.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for quasi-cyclic codes with index even to be symplectic self-orthogonal. Then, we propose a method for constructing symplectic self-orthogonal quasi-cyclic codes, which allows arbitrary polynomials that coprime $x^{n}-1$ to construct symplectic self-orthogonal codes. Moreover, by decomposing the space of quasi-cyclic codes, we provide lower and upper bounds on the minimum symplectic distances of a class of 1-generator quasi-cyclic codes and their symplectic dual codes. Finally, we construct many binary symplectic self-orthogonal codes with excellent parameters, corresponding to 117 record-breaking quantum codes, improving Grassl's table (Bounds on the Minimum Distance of Quantum Codes. <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://www.codetables.de" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>).

Abstract:Symmetry is at the heart of coding theory. Codes with symmetry, especially cyclic codes, play an essential role in both theory and practical applications of classical error-correcting codes. Here we examine symmetry properties for codeword stabilized (CWS) quantum codes, which is the most general framework for constructing quantum error-correcting codes known to date. A CWS code Q can be represented by a self-dual additive code S and a classical code C, i.,e., Q=(S,C), however this representation is in general not unique. We show that for any CWS code Q with certain permutation symmetry, one can always find a self-dual additive code S with the same permutation symmetry as Q such that Q=(S,C). As many good CWS codes have been found by starting from a chosen S, this ensures that when trying to find CWS codes with certain permutation symmetry, the choice of S with the same symmetry will suffice. A key step for this result is a new canonical representation for CWS codes, which is given in terms of a unique decomposition as union stabilizer codes. For CWS codes, so far mainly the standard form (G,C) has been considered, where G is a graph state. We analyze the symmetry of the corresponding graph of G, which in general cannot possess the same permutation symmetry as Q. We show that it is indeed the case for the toric code on a square lattice with translational symmetry, even if its encoding graph can be chosen to be translational invariant.

Abstract:We give a polynomial representation for additive cyclic codes over . This representation will be applied to uniquely present each additive cyclic code by at most two generator polynomials. We determine the generator polynomials of all different additive cyclic codes. A minimum distance lower bound for additive cyclic codes will also be provided using linear cyclic codes over . We classify all the symplectic self-dual, self-orthogonal, and nearly self-orthogonal additive cyclic codes over . Finally, we present ten record-breaking binary quantum codes after applying a quantum construction to self-orthogonal and nearly self-orthogonal additive cyclic codes over .

Symplectic self-orthogonal and LCD codes from the Plotkin sum construction

Abstract:In this work, we propose two criteria for linear codes obtained from the Plotkin sum construction being symplectic self-orthogonal (SO) and linear complementary dual (LCD). As specific constructions, several classes of symplectic SO codes with good parameters including symplectic maximum distance separable codes are derived via $\ell$-intersection pairs of linear codes and generalized Reed-Muller codes. Also symplectic LCD codes are constructed from general linear codes. Furthermore, we obtain some binary symplectic LCD codes, which are equivalent to quaternary trace Hermitian additive complementary dual codes that outperform best-known quaternary Hermitian LCD codes reported in the literature. In addition, we prove that symplectic SO and LCD codes obtained in these ways are asymptotically good.

Abstract:A class of powerful $q$-ary linear polynomial codes originally proposed by Xing and Ling is deployed to construct good asymmetric quantum codes via the standard CSS construction. Our quantum codes are $q$-ary block codes that encode $k$ qudits of quantum information into $n$ qudits and correct up to $\flr{(d_{x}-1)/2}$ bit-flip errors and up to $\flr{(d_{z}-1)/2}$ phase-flip errors.. In many cases where the length $(q^{2}-q)/2 \leq n \leq (q^{2}+q)/2$ and the field size $q$ are fixed and for chosen values of $d_{x} \in \{2,3,4,5\}$ and $d_{z} \ge \delta$, where $\delta$ is the designed distance of the Xing-Ling (XL) codes, the derived pure $q$-ary asymmetric quantum CSS codes possess the best possible size given the current state of the art knowledge on the best classical linear block codes.

Abstract:Let $F$ be any field containing the finite field of order $q$. A $q$-polynomial $L$ over $F$ is an element of the polynomial ring $F[x]$ with the property that all powers of $x$ that appear in $L$ with nonzero coefficient have exponent a power of $q$. It is well known that given any ordinary polynomial $f$ in $F[x]$, there exists a $q$-polynomial that is divisible by $f$. We study the smallest degree of such a $q$-polynomial. This is equivalent to studying the $\mathbb{F}_q$-span of the roots of $f$ in a splitting field. We relate this quantity to the representation theory of the Galois group of $f$. As an application we give a simultaneous construction of the binary Golay code of length 24, and the Steiner system on 24 points.

Abstract:In the present paper, we generalize the ideas of code constructions from our previous papers . It turns out that the codes in the previous papers can be viewed as special cases of those in this paper. Moreover, our constructions produce some good codes in terms of their parameters. In particular, some best-known codes can be obtained through our methods. Furthermore, our constructions are explicit and the codes can be easily implemented as shown in the tables of Appendix. Besides, one new code, i.e., a 4-ary [64,15,31]-linear code, is found through our constructions.

Abstract:This work studies projective self-dual (PSD) and self-polar linear codes over finite fields with q elements, where q is a power of a prime. The possible parameters for which PSD codes may exist are presented, and many examples are provided. Algorithms for checking whether a q-ary linear code is self-polar are described. Many PSD and self-polar codes over fields with two, three, four, and five elements with two and three nonzero weights are constructed.

Abstract:In this article we mainly study linear codes over $\mathbb{F}_{2^n}$ and their binary subfield codes. We construct linear codes over $\mathbb{F}_{2^n}$ whose defining sets are the certain subsets of $\mathbb{F}_{2^n}^m$ obtained from mathematical objects called simplicial complexes. We use a result in LFSR sequences to illustrate the relation of the weights of codewords in two special codes obtained from simplical complexes and then determin the parameters of these codes. We construct fiveinfinite families of distance optimal codes and give sufficient conditions for these codes to be minimal.

Abstract:The stabilizer method for constructing a class of asymmetric quantum codes (AQC), called additive AQC, has been established by Aly et.al. In this paper, we present a new characterization of AQC, which generalizes a result of the symmetric case known previously. As an application of the characterization, we establish a relationship of AQC with classical error-correcting codes and show a few examples of good AQC with specific parameters. By using this relationship, we obtain an asymptotic bound on AQCs from algebraic geometry codes.

Abstract:There have been various constructions of classical codes from polynomial valuations in literature [2], [7], [8], [10], [11]. In this paper, we present a construction of classical codes based on polynomial construction again. One of the features of this construction is that not only the classical codes arisen from the construction have good parameters, but also quantum codes with reasonably good parameters can be produced from these classical codes. In particular, some new quantum codes are constructed (see Examples V.5 and V.6).

Abstract:We study linear complementary dual four circulant codes of length $4n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ when $q$ is an odd prime power. When $q^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FF}}+1$ is divisible by $n$ , we obtain an exact count of linear complementary dual four circulant codes of length $4n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ . For certain values of $n$ and $q$ and assuming Artin’s conjecture for primitive roots, we show that the relative distance of these codes satisfies a modified Gilbert–Varshamov bound.

Abstract:The objectives of this paper are to survey and extend results on several classes of asymptotically good quasi-twisted codes over finite field with a low index, namely double circulant codes, double negacirculant codes, four circulant codes and four negacirculant codes. For a given length, we summarize the enumerations of the self-dual and LCD codes and supplement some expansion results. The existence of asymptotically good quasi-twisted codes relies on factorizations of special binomials over finite fields; the existence of these factorizations, in turn, with the assumption of Artin primitive root conjecture, or in some cases can be derived unconditionally by using Dickson polynomials.

Abstract:In the present paper, we show that if the dimension of an arbitrary algebraic geometry code over a finite field of even characteristic is slightly less than $n/2-g$ with $n$ being the length of the code and $g$ being the genus of the base curve, then it is equivalent to an Euclidean self-orthogonal code. Previously, such results required a strong condition on the existence of a certain differential. We also show a similar result on Hermitian self-orthogonal algebraic geometry codes. As a consequence, we can apply our result to quantum codes and obtain some good quantum codes. In particular, we obtain a $q$-ary quantum $[[q+1,1]]$-MDS code for an even power $q$ which is essential for quantum secret sharing.
A new construction of nonlinear codes via rational function fields

Abstract:It is well known that constructing codes with good parameters is one of the most important and fundamental problems in coding theory. Though a great many of good codes have been produced, most of them are defined over alphabets of sizes equal to prime powers. In this paper, we provide a new explicit construction of (q+1)-ary nonlinear codes via rational function fields, where q is a prime power. Our codes are constructed by evaluations of rational functions at all the rational places (including the place of "infinity") of the rational function field. Compared to the rational algebraic geometry codes, the main difference is that we allow rational functions to be evaluated at pole places. After evaluating rational functions from a union of Riemann-Roch spaces, we obtain a family of nonlinear codes with length q+1 over the alphabet $\mathbb{F}_{q}\cup \{\infty\}$. As a result, our codes have reasonable parameters as they are very close to the Singleton bound. Furthermore, our codes have better parameters than those obtained from MDS codes via code alphabet restriction or extension.

Abstract:We show that every self-orthogonal code over $\mathbb F_q$ of length $n$ can be extended to a self-dual code, if there exists self-dual codes of length $n$. Using a family of Galois towers of algebraic function fields we show that over any nonprime field $\mathbb F_q$, with $q\geq 64$, except possibly $q=125$, there are self-dual codes better than the asymptotic Gilbert--Varshamov bound.

Abstract:Linear codes with few weights have been an interesting subject of study for many years, as these codes have applications in secrete sharing, authentication codes, association schemes, and strongly regular graphs. In this paper, linear codes with a few weights are constructed from inhomogeneous quadratic functions over the finite field $\gf(p)$, where $p$ is an odd prime. They include some earlier linear codes as special cases. The weight distributions of these linear codes are also determined.
