Abstract:In this paper, we resolve a conjecture of Green and Liebeck (2019) [3] on codes in PGL(2,q). To be specific, we show that: if D is a dihedral subgroup of order 2(q+1) in G=PGL(2,q), and A={g∈G:gq+1=1,g2≠1}, then λG=A⋅D, where λ=q or q−1 according as q is even or odd.

Abstract:The determination of weight distribution of cyclic codes involves the evaluation of Gauss sums and exponential sums. Despite some cases where a neat expression is available, the computation is generally rather complicated. In this note, we determine the weight distribution of a class of reducible cyclic codes whose dual codes may have arbitrarily many zeros. This goal is achieved by building an unexpected connection between the corresponding exponential sums and the spectra of Hermitian forms graphs.

Abstract:We obtain structural results about group ring codes over F[G], where F is a finite field of characteristic p > 0 and the Sylow p-subgroup of the Abelian group G is cyclic. As a special case, we characterize cyclic codes over finite fields in the case the length of the code is divisible by the characteristic of the field. By the same approach we study cyclic codes of length m over the ring R = F (q) [u], u (r) = 0 with r > 0, gcd(m, q) = 1. Finally, we give a construction of quasi-cyclic codes over finite fields.

Abstract:Based on curves over finite fields with many rational points, we present two constructions of linear codes from local expansions of functions at a fixed rational point. It turns out that codes from our constructions have the same bound on their parameters as Goppa's (1981) geometry codes. Furthermore, we prove that our second construction is equivalent to Goppa's construction. Finally, an additional construction of linear codes from maximal curves shows that these codes have better parameters than Goppa's geometry codes from maximal curves for a certain interval of parameters.

Abstract:The generalized Hamming weights, introduced a few years ago by V. K. Wei, provide substantial information of codes and thus play a central role in coding theory. For algebraic geometric codes, there have been many works on their generalized Hamming weights (or weight hierarchy). However, for lots of codes from Hermitian curves and the Klein quartic, some generalized Hamming weights still have not yet been found explicitly. In this paper, we first prove a general result (Theorem 1.4) on the computation of generalized Hamming weights of geometric Goppa codes on plane curves, using the configuration ofFq-rational points on the curves. Then we give the exact values (Theorem 2.2) of the first and second generalized Hamming weights of some codes arising from the Klein quartic. Our main result (Theorem 2.3) gives the exact values of the second and third generalized Hamming weights of certain codes from Hermitian curves. In the Appendix, a previous known result of Yang, Kumar, and Stichtenoth for Hermitian codes is shown to follow from Theorem 1.4. We also give the exact values of the first three generalized Hamming weights for Fermat codes.

Abstract:A lot of attention has been paid to the investigation of the algebraic properties of linear codes. In most cases, this investigation involves the determination of required code automorphisms, which are useful for decoders, such as the automorphism ensemble decoder. It is worth noting that the examination of the automorphism groups of discrete symmetric objects has long been a highly regarded field of research. Cyclic codes, as a significant subclass of linear codes, can be constructed and analyzed using algebraic methods. And due to its cyclic nature, they have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. To date, cyclic codes have found applications in various domains, including consumer electronics, data storage systems, and communication systems. In this paper, we investigate the full automorphism groups of binary cyclic codes. In particular, we present constructions for binary cyclic codes of long lengths that facilitate the determination of the full automorphism groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we examine algebraic geometric (AG) codes associated with curves generated by separated polynomials, and we create AG codes and quantum stabilizer codes from these curves by varying their parameters. Our research involves a thorough examination of the curves' algebraic features as well as the creation of Goppa codes over them. Extending these findings, we create quantum stabilizer codes, revealing that quantum codes built from Hermitian self-orthogonal AG codes have acceptable parameters, improving the reliability and performance of communication networks.

Abstract:In the present paper, we show that if the dimension of an arbitrary algebraic geometry code over a finite field of even characteristic is slightly less than $n/2-g$ with $n$ being the length of the code and $g$ being the genus of the base curve, then it is equivalent to an Euclidean self-orthogonal code. Previously, such results required a strong condition on the existence of a certain differential. We also show a similar result on Hermitian self-orthogonal algebraic geometry codes. As a consequence, we can apply our result to quantum codes and obtain some good quantum codes. In particular, we obtain a $q$-ary quantum $[[q+1,1]]$-MDS code for an even power $q$ which is essential for quantum secret sharing.

Abstract:A class of linear codes with good parameters is constructed in this correspondence. It turns out that linear codes of this class are subcodes of the subfield subcodes of Goppa's geometry codes. In particular, we find 61 improvements on Brouwer's table based on our codes.

Abstract:It is the main objective of this paper to show a vanishing result for cuspidal cohomology of arithmetic groups in classical groups~$G$ defined over some number field~$k$.Our approach relies on the fact that cuspidal automorphic forms are nonsingular in the sense of Howe. This result puts a strong constraint on the (archimedean components of) irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of $G$that can possibly contribute to the cuspidal cohomology. Combining this with the classification of Vogan-Zuckerman of unitary representations with nonzero cohomologyprovides a constant $r_0(G/k)$, only depending on $G/k$, below which the cuspidal cohomology vanishes. We will give a formula for this constant for each classical group of type (I) in the classification scheme due to Weil. We conclude with making this result explicit for some split classical groups over a totally real algebraic number field.

Abstract:We study the functional codes of order h defined by G. Lachaud on a non-degenerate Hermitian variety, by exhibiting a result on divisibility for all the weights of such codes. In the case where the functional code is defined by evaluating quadratic functions on the non-degenerate Hermitian surface, we list the first five weights, describe the geometrical structure of the corresponding quadrics and give a positive answer to a conjecture formulated on this question by Edoukou (2009) [8]. The paper ends with two conjectures. The first is about the divisibility of the weights in the functional codes. The second is about the minimum distance and the distribution of the codewords of the first 2h+1 weights.

Abstract:We determine the Weierstrass semigroup at one and two totally ramified places in a Kummer extension defined by the affine equation $y^{m}=\prod_{i=1}^{r} (x-\alpha_i)^{\lambda_i}$ over $K$, the algebraic closure of $\mathbb{F}_q$, where $\alpha_1, \dots, \alpha_r\in K$ are pairwise distinct elements, and $\gcd(m, \sum_{i=1}^{r}\lambda_i)=1$. For an arbitrary function field, from the knowledge of the minimal generating set of the Weierstrass semigroup at two rational places, the set of pure gaps is characterized. We apply these results to construct algebraic geometry codes over certain function fields with many rational places.

Abstract:In the study of algebraic curves with many points over a finite field, a well known general problem is to understanding better the properties of $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$-maximal curves whose genera fall in the higher part of the spectrum of the genera of all $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$-maximal curves. This problem is still open for genera smaller than $ \lfloor \frac{1}{6}(q^2-q+4) \rfloor$. In this paper we consider the case of $\mathfrak{g}=\frac{1}{8}(q-1)^2$ where $q\equiv 1\pmod{4}$ and the curve is the Galois cover of the Hermitian curve w.r.t to a cyclic automorphism group of order $4$. Our contributions concern Frobenius embedding, Weierstrass semigroups and automorphism groups.

Abstract:Classical Goppa codes are a well-known class of codes with applications in code-based cryptography, which are a special case of alternant codes. Many papers are devoted to the search for Goppa codes with a cyclic extension or with a cyclic parity-check subcode. Let $\Bbb F_q$ be a finite field with $q=2^l$ elements, where $l$ is a positive integer. In this paper, we determine all the generator polynomials of cyclic expurgated or extended Goppa codes under some prescribed permutations induced by the projective general linear automorphism $A \in PGL_2(\Bbb F_q)$. Moreover, we provide some examples to support our findings.

Abstract:In this paper, we study some codes of algebraic geometry related to certain maximal curves. Quantum stabilizer codes obtained through the self orthogonality of Hermitian codes of this error correcting do not always have good parameters. However, appropriate parameters found that the Hermitian self-orthogonal code quantum stabilizer code has good parameters. Therefore, we investigated the quantum stabilizer code at a certain maximum curve and modified its parameters. Algebraic geometry codes show promise for enabling high data rate transmission over noisy power line communication channels.

Abstract:Constructing optimal locally repairable codes is a challenging and interesting task and has attracted great attention in the last decade. Unlike classical MDS codes, a q -ary optimal locally repairable code could have length bigger than q + 1. In [18] , a family of optimal locally repairable codes was constructed from automorphism groups of elliptic curves. The length of such a q -ary optimal locally repairable code can be up to q + 2 q and the minimum distance can be linear in its length. However, the locality of this family of optimal locally repairable codes is upper bounded by 23, because there are at most 24 automorphisms of an elliptic curve fixing the point at infinity. In this paper, we show the group structure of the automorphism group of an elliptic curve over a finite field and characterize its subgroups and abelian subgroups. Optimal locally repairable codes can be constructed from subgroups involving both translations and a nontrivial automorphism fixing the point at infinity of elliptic curves. One of the main motivations to study subgroups of the automorphism group of an elliptic curve over a finite field is to remove the constraints on locality.

Abstract:We investigate the geometric foundations of the space of geometric Goppa codes using the Tsfasman-Vladut H-construction. These codes are constructed from level structures, which extend the classical Goppa framework by incorporating invertible sheaves and trivializations. A key contribution is the definition of the Goppa morphism, a map from the moduli space of level structures, denoted $LS_{g,n,d}$, to the Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}(k,n)$. This morphism allows problems related to distinguishing attacks and key recovery in the context of geometric Goppa codes to be translated into a geometric language, addressing questions about the equations defining the image of the Goppa morphism and its fibers. Furthermore, we identify the ranges of the degree parameter $d$ that should be avoided to maintain security against distinguishers. Our results, valid over arbitrary base fields, also apply to convolutional Goppa codes.
