Abstract:In this paper we give a tight bound on the average sensitivity of the weighted sum function. This confirms a conjecture of Shparlinski. The weights of the weighted sum functions are also given and it shows that they are all asymptotically balanced.

Abstract:In this paper we simplify the definition of the weighted sum Boolean function which used to be inconvenient to compute and use. We show that the new function has essentially the same properties as the previous one. In particular, the bound on the average sensitivity of the weighted sum Boolean function remains unchanged after the simplification.

Abstract:Consider the problem of approximating the tail probability of randomly weighted sums ∑i=1nΘiXi and their maxima, where {Xi,i≥1} is a sequence of identically distributed but not necessarily independent random variables from the extended regular variation class, and {Θi,i≥1} is a sequence of nonnegative random variables, independent of {Xi,i≥1} and satisfying certain moment conditions. Under the assumption that {Xi,i≥1} has no bivariate upper tail dependence along with some other mild conditions, this paper establishes the following asymptotic relations: Pr(max1≤k≤n∑i=1kΘiXi>x)∼Pr(∑i=1nΘiXi>x)∼∑i=1nPr(ΘiXi>x), and Pr(max1≤k<∞∑i=1kΘiXi>x)∼Pr(∑i=1∞ΘiXi+>x)∼∑i=1∞Pr(ΘiXi>x), as x→∞. In doing so, no assumption is made on the dependence structure of the sequence {Θi,i≥1}.

Abstract:Sensitivity is an important complexity measure of Boolean functions. In this paper we present properties of the minimal and maximal sensitivity of the simplified weighted sum function. A simple close formula of the minimal sensitivity of the simplified weighted sum function is obtained. A phenomenon is exhibited that the minimal sensitivity of the weighted sum function is indeed an indicator of large primes, that is, for large prime number p, the minimal sensitivity of the weighted sum function is always equal to one.

Abstract:In this paper, we will investigate the approximations of inverse moments for double-indexed weighted sums of random variables under sub-linear expectations. The asymptotic approximations of inverse moments and the convergence rate of approximations are established under the meaning of upper expectation Eˆ and the lower expectation εˆ, respectively. Moreover, we carry out some simulations to verify the validity of our theoretical results. The results obtained in the paper improve and extend the corresponding ones of Yang et al. [24] from independent random variables in the classical probability space to END random variables in sub-linear expectation space.

Abstract:Inspired in the papers by Angelo and Xu, Q.J Math., 74, pp. 767-777, and improvements by Kerr and Klurman, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2211.05540" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2211.05540">arXiv:2211.05540</a>, we study the probability that the weighted sums of a Rademacher random multiplicative function, $\sum_{n\leq x}f(n)n^{-\sigma}$, are positive for all $x\geq x_\sigma\geq 1$ in the regime $\sigma\to1/2^+$. In a previous paper by the author, when $\sigma\leq 1/2$ this probability is zero. Here we give a positive lower bound for this probability depending on $x_\sigma$ that becomes large as $\sigma\to1/2^+$. The main inputs in our proofs are a maximal inequality based in relatively high moments for these partial sums combined with a Halász-Bonami's moment inequality, and also explicit estimates for the partial sums of non-negative multiplicative functions.

Abstract:Recently, Bordell\'{e}s, Dai, Heyman, Pan and Shparlinski in \cite{Igor} considered a partial sum involving the Euler totient function and the integer parts $\lfloor x/n\rfloor$ function. Among other things, they obtained reasonably tight upper and lower bounds for their sum using the theory of exponent pairs and in particular, using a recently discovered Bourgain's exponent pair. Based on numerical evidences, they also pose a question on the asymptotic behaviour for their sum which we state here as a conjecture. The aim of this paper is to prove an asymptotic formula for the average of their sum in the interval $[1,x]$. We show via Perron's formula that this average is a certain weighted analogue of the sum that Bordell\'{e}s \textit{et al} considered in their paper. Further, we show that their conjecture is true under certain conditions. Our proof involves Perron's contour integral method besides some analytic estimates of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$ in the zero-free region.

Abstract:We study the relationship between the average sensitivity and density of k-CNF formulas via the isoperimetric function $\varphi:[0,1]\to{I\!\!R}$ , $$ \varphi(\mu) = {\rm max} \left\{ \frac{{\rm AS}(F)}{{\rm CNF-width}(F)} \colon{\rm E}[F(x)] = \mu \right\},$$ where the maximum is taken over all Boolean functions F:{0, 1}* → {0, 1} over a finite number of variables and AS(F) is the average sensitivity of F. Building on the work of Boppana [1] and Traxler [2], and answering an open problem of O’Donnell, Amano [3] recently proved that ϕ(μ) ≤ 1 for all μ ∈ [0,1]. In this paper we determine ϕ exactly, giving matching upper and lower bounds. The heart of our upper bound is the Paturi-Pudlák-Zane (PPZ) algorithm for k-SAT [4], which we use in a unified proof that sharpens the three incomparable bounds of Boppana, Traxler, and Amano. We extend our techniques to determine ϕ when the maximum is taken over monotone Boolean functions F, further demonstrating the utility of the PPZ algorithm in isoperimetric problems of this nature. As an application we show that this yields the largest known separation between the average and maximum sensitivity of monotone Boolean functions, making progress on a conjecture of Servedio. Finally, we give an elementary proof that AS(F) ≤ log(s)(1 + o(1)) for functions F computed by an s-clause CNF, which is tight up to lower order terms. This sharpens and simplifies Boppana’s bound of O(logs) obtained using Håstad’s switching lemma.

Abstract:In this paper, which deals essentially with various summability concepts and summability techniques and shows how these concepts and techniques lead to a number of approximation results, we have used the new concept of weighted A-summability proposed by Mohiuddine (2016) and introduced the notions of statistically weighted B -summability and weighted B -statistical convergence with respect to the weighted regular method. We then prove a Korovkin type approximation theorem for functions of two variables and also present an example via generalized Meyer-König and Zeller type operator to show that our proposed method is stronger than its classical and statistical versions. Furthermore, the rate of convergence of approximating positive linear operators are estimated by means of the modulus of continuity and some Voronovskaja type results are investigated. Computational and geometrical approaches to illustrate some of our results are also presented.
