AN APPROACH FOR CONSTRUCTION AND CONSISTENCE MAINTENANCE OF DISTRIBUTED ONTOLOGY

Abstract:Ontology has been the important means of presenting and managing knowledge under semantic Web environment.As far, researches on approaches of creating,publishing,browsing,editing and storing single ontology have been relatively mature.Meanwhile,with the increase of knowledge scale,constructing ontologies in distributed environment has been a popular solution.However,there exist many challenges for distributed ontology construction,such as multi-user collaboration and consistency maintenance,etc.In this paper,we propose a method for collaborative construction and consistency maintenance of distributed ontology.This method constructs the large-scale ontology in a form of hierarchical distributed ontologies organisation.On that basis,the method also generalises the editing operations for reference relationship between concepts involved in the process of ontology construction.Furthermore,the method also proposes a collaborative consistence maintenance solution when the concepts are changed.Finally,we simulated the editing operation set of ontology editors on ontologies and through this carried out the experiments of the processes of conflict detection,conflict resolution and update operations. Experimental results showed that the time consuming of our method could basically be in accordance with single ontology maintenance method.
