Abstract:Nowadays wireless intrusion prevention systems have become the research hotspot with the fast development of WLAN.In this paper,we first introduce the common attack methods for WLAN,and then present the framework of the wireless IPS with a distributed pre-decision engine,which can predict the future actions and direct active responses to these actions.We implement an improved model with extended detection rules for conducting intrusion plan and making pre-decision,by gathering wireless device information and importing supporting degree of intrusion plan in plan recognition.Experimental results showed that the distributed pre-decision engine can not only improve wireless intrusion detection and prevention performance,also reduce false negatives and false positives evidently.

Abstract:Nowadays, several kinds of attacks exist in cyberspace, and hence comprehensive research has been implemented to overcome these drawbacks. One such method to provide security in WSN (Wireless sensor network) is Intrusion Detection System. However, the determination of unknown attacks remains a major challenge in the intrusion detection system. Hence, the usage of deep learning methodologies remains to be an active area in cyber security. However, prevailing a deep learning algorithm possesses limitations such as comparatively low accuracy and heavily depends on the manual selection of the features. These problems have been analyzed, and corresponding to the problems, the present study proposed an enhanced empirical-based component analysis to select relevant features. This proposed feature selection model integrates the advantages of both empirical mode decomposition and principal component analysis to retain most of the relevant features. The classification of the attack node with the selected features was performed with LSTM (Long Short Term Memory). The proposed framework validated datasets, namely NSL-KDD, CICIDS 2017, UNSW NB 2015, and KDD99 datasets, compared with the state of art methods. The comparative analysis with the prevailing methods proved the effectiveness of the presented system in terms of performance metrics such as accuracy, F1 score, Recall, FPR, FAR, etc. (c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have a wide application. However, they are of interest to adversaries and are susceptible to some types of attacks for they are deployed in unprotected environments. In this paper we use key feature and rule-based intrusions detection for WSNs. In our scheme, we investigate different defense rules and key features in WSNs to build efficient, accurate and effective Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs). We also propose a moving window function method to gather the current activity data. The scheme fits the demands and restrictions of WSNs. The scheme does not need any cooperation among other monitor nodes. Simulation results show that we proposed IDSs is efficient and accurate.

Abstract:Intrusion detection is an important technique in the defense-in-depth network security framework and a hot topic in computer security in recent years. In this paper, a new intrusion detection method based on Principle Component Analysis (PCA) with low overhead and high efficiency is presented. System call data and command sequences data are used as information sources to validate the proposed method. The frequencies of individual system calls in a trace and individual commands in a data block are computed and then data column vectors which represent the traces and blocks of the data are formed as data input. PCA is applied to reduce the high dimensional data vectors and distance between a vector and its projection onto the subspace reduced is used for anomaly detection. Experimental results show that the proposed method is promising in terms of detection accuracy, computational expense and implementation for real-time intrusion detection.

Abstract:Aiming at large-scale, high dimensional data, and variable intrusion behavior in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), an intrusion detection algorithm based on parallel intelligent optimization feature extraction and distributed fuzzy clustering for WSNs is proposed. First, in order to effectively reduce the data dimensionality and improve the robustness of the feature extraction process, the parallel intelligent optimization feature extraction framework is constructed on the basis of defining the optimal feature evaluation index, for which the theoretical analysis shows that the index can eliminate feature redundancy and maintain the diversity of original data. Second, the spider cluster optimization algorithm evolution rule is redefined by introducing local search and adaptive multi strategy update method, and it proves that the improved social spider optimization (ISSO) algorithm has global convergence. The ISSO is used to solve the feature extraction framework, and through the parallel feature subset selection process, the best feature combination is extracted. Finally, WSNs intrusion detection is carried out by using the best feature subset and the distributed fuzzy clustering technology, and intelligent iterative evolution method and adaptive clustering strategy are introduced in order to improve the fuzzy clustering algorithm performance. Experimental results show that the intrusion detection algorithm can effectively give the results of intrusion detection, and moreover, compared with the other detection algorithms, the intrusion detection rate is improved by about 13.1%, and the false detection rate is decreased by about 8.5%.

Abstract:Intrusion detection algorithm is a hot topic in the field of computer and network safety. The large load and high dimensionality of original network data collected by network traffic collector will reduce the detection efficiency and accuracy. Therefore, dimensionality reduction is necessary for original network data. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a common method for dimensionality reduction, but it only extracts principal components from the input data without considering the explanatory power of principal components on the output variables. To address this problem, we improve on the conventional PCA algorithm and apply this method to intrusion detection. Experiment shows that the improved PCA algorithm achieves better effect in dimensionality reduction and intrusion detection.

Abstract:The security of software applications, from web-based applications to mobile services, is always at risk because of the open society of internet. With the increase in the number of network throughput and security threats, intrusion detection system has attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, we undertake the research on the principle techniques for network intrusion detection based on data mining and analysis approach. We adopt the prior knowledge on Bayesian network which is a directed acyclic graph, each node represents a random variable and an edge said direct probabilistic dependencies between two connected nodes. Then, we use the traditional risk assessment model to measure the possibility of being hearted. The numeric analysis and experimental illustration indicates the effectiveness of our method compared with other popular adopted state-of-the-art methodologies. In the future, we plan to introduce the graph and complex network theory into our prototype system to enhance the performance.

Abstract:Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) require an efficient intrusion detection scheme to identify malicious attackers. Traditional detection schemes are not well suited for WSNs due to their higher false detection rate. In this paper, we propose a novel intrusion detection scheme based on the energy prediction in cluster-based WSNs (EPIDS). The main contribution of EPIDS is to detect attackers by comparing the energy consumptions of sensor nodes. The sensor nodes with abnormal energy consumptions are identified as malicious attackers. Furthermore, EPIDS is designed to distinguish the types of denial of service (DoS) attack according to the energy consumption rate of the malicious nodes. The primary simulation experiments prove that EPIDS can detect and recognize malicious attacks effectively.

Abstract:The architecture and characteristics of Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN),as well as the significance of the intrusion detection system (IDS) in building secure WMNs are investigated.Based on an in-depth analysis of the IDS technologies in ad hoc networks,the technologies of cross-layer,and trouble shooting,a new architecture of asymmetric,distributed and cooperative IDS with the technologies of trouble shooting and cross-layer for WMNs based on the application of agents are proposed in the paper,and the design principle of the agent modules are analysed in detail ulteriorly.Finally,this new architecture of IDS in WMNs is simulated by the attack detection of the MAC selfish behavior in NS2.The result of simulation shows that the given new architecture of IDS fits WMNs well.

Abstract:The Internet of Things has broad application in military field, commerce, environmental monitoring, and many other fields. However, the open nature of the information media and the poor deployment environment have brought great risks to the security of wireless sensor networks, seriously restricting the application of wireless sensor network. Internet of Things composed of wireless sensor network faces security threats mainly from Dos attack, replay attack, integrity attack, false routing information attack, and flooding attack. In this paper, we proposed a new intrusion detection system based on K -nearest neighbor ( K -nearest neighbor, referred to as KNN below) classification algorithm in wireless sensor network. This system can separate abnormal nodes from normal nodes by observing their abnormal behaviors, and we analyse parameter selection and error rate of the intrusion detection system. The paper elaborates on the design and implementation of the detection system. This system has achieved efficient, rapid intrusion detection by improving the wireless ad hoc on-demand distance vector routing protocol (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance the Vector Routing, AODV). Finally, the test results show that: the system has high detection accuracy and speed, in accordance with the requirement of wireless sensor network intrusion detection.

Abstract:As one of the basic technologies for building Internet of Things, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a hot research topic at present. In this paper, two basic structures of WSNs are described briefly, and the current security situation and security risks of WSNs are introduced. Then, this paper summarizes several mainstream ways of attacking identity authentication schemes that are applied to WSNs, including smart card theft, wireless sensor node capture, vampire attack and collusion attack, and presents some defensive measures. Finally, attacking principles of these attack methods are summarized, and some improvements are put forward.

Abstract:As wireless mesh networks (WMNs) develop rapidly, security issue becomes increasingly important. Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is one of the crucial ways to detect attacks. However, IDS in wireless networks including WMNs brings high detection overhead, which degrades network performance. In this paper, we apply compressed sensing (CS) theory to IDS and propose a CS based IDS for hybrid WMNs. Since CS can reconstruct a sparse signal with compressive sampling, we process the detected data and construct sparse original signals. Through reconstruction algorithm, the compressive sampled data can be reconstructed and used for detecting intrusions, which reduces the detection overhead. We also propose Active State Metric (ASM) as an attack metric for recognizing attacks, which measures the activity in PHY layer and energy consumption of each node. Through intensive simulations, the results show that under 50% attack density, our proposed IDS can ensure 95% detection rate while reducing about 40% detection overhead on average.
