Abstract:Based on analyzing the needs of wide-area power system modeling,this paper proposed a parallel computing scheme.A particle swarm optimization based parallel computing algorithm was developed,and a software and hardware system was constructed.A simulation system was tested,results demonstrated the effectiveness and superiority of the model and the parallel computing technology.The parallel computing technology is valuable for engineering application.

Abstract:As the structure of power system becomes more complicated and its scale expands constantly, serial processing based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system can hardly meet future operational requirements, therefore it is an inevitable tendency to introduce cluster technology into SCADA. To meet demand of power grid development, this paper closely integrate newest cluster technology and designing concept, and develop a clustering based SCADA system, which has super-large grid information processing capability and satisfies the technical requirements of super-high capacity, high speed processing and reliable operation, therefore cluster SCADA can effectively prevent the potential dangers like performance reduction and information loss brought by the dramatically increased data scale.

Abstract:A campus grid is developed and deployed to integrate high performance computing resources in Zhejiang University.The architecture is based on a hierarchical combination of two grid middleware products,Globus Toolkit and Sun Grid Engine,in order to make use of their advantages.The campus grid is applied for scientific computation,bioinformatics,computational fluid dynamics,etc.Some test cases using Message Passing Interface(MPI) show that the campus grid can provide powerful and stable computing cycles.The campus grid also provides two collaborative visualization services,the local rendering and the server rendering,which can be customized by the user.Finally,the collaborative visualization service facilitates users to research and analyze cooperatively.

Abstract:As the structure of power networks becomes more complex, power grid dispatch and control system acquires even larger amount of data and faces accelerated data processing pressure. This paper presents several typical clustering architectures and algorithms, and proposes an applicable clustering architecture for very large power grid dispatch and control system. On the basis of this architecture, relevant clustering technologies applied in system platform and applications are presented. Practical application results show the effectiveness of this new architecture.

Abstract:Grids, as one implementation of public computing, can be deployed by some middleware to integrate all kinds of resources across institutional boundaries, to tackle complex problems in scientific and engineering computation, data storage, scientific visualization, etc. In this paper, we propose a public computing grid framework built upon the hierarchical combination of two popular middleware products, Globus Toolkit (GT) and Sun Grid Engine (SGE). The communication between them can be conducted by Transfer-queue Over Globus (TOG). We discuss issues related to the deployment and the usage of this kind of hybrid grids. We examine it using serial programs and parallel program codes, and compare it with the grids deployed by only GT or SGE, respectively. The case studies imply that this hybrid grid is suitable for loosely coupled applications with high computational complexity.

Abstract:This paper proposes a computational grid platform for solving the large-scale power system applications. The platform is based on Globus Toolkit middleware and Grid Way meta-scheduler. It can enable large-scale sharing of computational resources across institutional boundary. This paper first discusses the architecture and each component of the platform, and then the test bed is described. Finally, the test results of probabilistic load flow (PLF) by Monte-Carlo simulation are presented. The test results show that the computational Grid system can provide comparable performance.

Abstract:This paper describes a platform developed for the application of grid computing in electric power system. Two applications are implemented. One is the distributed monitoring and control implemented by using virtual database technology. Another is the distributed parallel computing of power system. This paper describes the whole infrastructure of the system. All the computing devices in the electric power system can be wrapped into integrity to realize distributed monitoring and control to provide support for the operation and control of electric power system. While the computers of high performance and tightly interconnected are organized by resource pooling to form a computing pool, to facilitate the distributed parallel computation. The paper first discusses the visualization of the resource, and the application of virtual database technology to realize the distributed data access and control. Then the structure for realizing the distributed parallel computing, especially the computing pool, resource and task scheduling, solution of differential algebraic equation and graph partition, is described. Finally the test benches built at laboratory are described and the test results are presented. The test results shows that the developed platform can provide comparable performance to other solutions such as MPI, and can be further improved

Abstract:5This paper addresses the problem of parallel dynamic security assessment applications from static homogeneous cluster environment to dynamic heterogeneous grid environment. Functional parallelism and data parallelism are supported by each of the message passing interface model and TCP/IP model. To consider the differences in heterogeneous computing resources and complexity of large-scale power system communities, a kernel-based multilevel algorithm is proposed for network partitioning. Since the bottleneck in distributed computation is low speed network communication, a bi-level latency exploitation technique is introduced for numerically solving system differential equations. The proposed grid-based implementation includes the core simulation engine, grid computing middleware, a Python interface and Python front-end utilities. Tests for a 39-bus network, a 4000-bus network and a 10,000-bus network are reported, and the results of these experiments demonstrate that the proposed scheme is able to execute the distributed simulations on computational grid infrastructure and provide efficient parallelism. Abstract:With the development of Grid technology and the extension of Grid application areas, it needs to provide core infrastructure platform and the necessary functional components for large-scale resources sharing and collaboration. Based on the previous implementation of interactive Grid visualization system, this paper extends its runtime environment layer to provide Grid supports for the existing distributed simulation support platform and parallel graphics rendering system based on PC cluster, consequently realizes dynamic resource allocation and scheduling. Additionally, we present and implement a Grid-based distributed simulation and parallel rendering system which provides large-scale distributed simulation service and parallel rendering as well as high-resolution multi-screen tiled display service of massive complex scene to end users through an extended Grid portal.

Abstract:As the original grid model cant meet the needs of smart grid development, a distributed grid modeling and integrated management technologies based on cloud computing are proposed in this paper. In this scheme, a multi-level integrated "model cloud" is developed with horizontal collaboration and vertical cut-through using cloud storage, cloud services, cloud computing and other related technologies. The grid models of levels of dispatching institutions are gathered, stored and managed with unified model service. The scheme can dress the issues of device naming, information sharing, model exchanging and model unifying, reduce the maintenance workload, improve the quality of the model and the degree of coordinated automation and enhance the level of dispatching and analysis of the whole power grid.

Abstract:It is an important direction of the development of parallel computer architecture to implement single system image (SSI) on clusters, since SSI supports easier programming and administration on clusters. Currently, most SSI studies focused on the middleware level of clusters, leading to some problems of poor transparence, low performance and so on. This paper presents a novel solution to provide SSI on clusters with hardware-assisted virtualization technologies. New layer software named DVMM (distributed virtual machine monitor) is added between the OS and the cluster hardware. The DVMM contains some symmetrical and cooperative VMMs distributed on the cluster. The cooperation among the VMMs virtualizes the distributed hardware resources to support SSI on a cluster. Compared with the related work, our solution has some advantages of good transparence, high performance and easy implementation.

Abstract:The analysis of modern power system becomes more computation intensive, and has to be performed in a dispersed IT infrastructure due to the inherently distributed topology of power system. Grid computing is potentially an ideal solution for electric power system and power network infrastructure also provides potential application field for grid computing because grid computing is most efficient in a large organization. This paper presents a new version of MPI (message passing interface) based on P2P, WD-MPI, in order to exploit the maximum performance in a heterogeneous environment for power system distributed computing. The problems of traditional MPI and some versions of modified MPI to improve its performance on heterogeneous and wide area network are analyzed. The system structure is presented and the design of the system, including asynchronous iterative algorithm, task and resource partition, is presented. The power flow calculation problem of an IEEE 300 bus system is used to compare the performances of the proposed scheme and previous solutions. The test is performed in a grid environment built in campus, which can simulate the behavior of wide area network to some extent. The test results show that the P2P based WD-MPI can give better performance than that of MPICH, MPICH-G2 and Globus solution

Abstract:A distributed and parallel power system grid computing platform is developed by use of certain Internet open sources and by integrating high efficiency grid processing software GridGain into InterPSS,a power system simulation platform.The new platform,named InterPSS grid computing platform,works by gathering the idled computer hardware resources in the local area network(LAN).Compared to the existing grid-computing platform,the proposed solution is characterized with high parallel efficiency,easy setup and maintenance,and open source,has a bright future in applications to the power system field.This conclusion is drawn on a concrete comparison between the proposed and existing solutions.

Abstract:In order to achieve all-in-one simulating computation of power system which data resource widely dispersed in all the sub-grids and maintain secrecy for each other, a power system distributed computing model based on inter-process communication (PSDCM) is proposed. With the detailed analysis of the characteristic of hierarchical multi-level management and multi-region control pattern, computing node behavioral model is abstracted according to the distributed environment and power grids characteristic, acquire the external grids data for each sub-gird by Ward equivalence method, heartbeat fault-tolerant is studied to avoid computing collapse, a double middleware which contain the global middleware and local middleware is design to achieve distributed heterogeneous data integration in power system, and then the PSDCM is realized. The practical application experiments of distributed power flow software of Chongqing (DPFS) and based on voltage stability margin low-voltage load shedding software (VSMLLSS) shows that PSDCM can satisfy the requirement of simulating computing of power system effectively. Abstract:In this paper, a framework of the Grid computing platform for power systems with the name of 'n-grid' is presented. Then, the architecture of the Pi-grid is introduced from both the view of its real physical structure and the view of the middleware layers. Further more, the power system applications that can be built on this platform for real power system use are outlined. As the first milestone, a prototype system of the Pi-grid is built up, which is designed to solve the distributed unified power flow problem in the grid computing environment.
