Abstract:Let Tn denote a tree of order n and Wm a wheel of order m+1. In this paper, we show the Ramsey numbers R(Tn,W6)=2n−1+μ for n≥5, where μ=2 if Tn=Sn, μ=1 if Tn=Sn(1,1) or Tn=Sn(1,2) and n≡0(mod3), and μ=0 otherwise; R(Tn,W7)=3n−2 for n≥6.

Abstract:Let Tn denote a tree of order n and Wm a wheel of order m + 1. In a previous paper, we evaluated the Ramsey number R(Tn, Wm) in the cases where Tn is the star of order n and m = 6 or m is odd and n ≥ m − 1 ≥ 2. In this paper, we determine R(Tn, W6) in the case where the maximum degree of Tn is at least n − 3. Our results show that a recent conjecture of Baskoro et al. is false.

Abstract:Let T-n denote a tree of order n and W-m a wheel of order m + 1. Baskoro et al. conjectured in [2] that if T-n is not a star, then R(T-n, W-m) = 2n - 1 for m >= 6 even and n >= m - 1. We disprove the Conjecture in [6]. In this paper, we determine R(T-n, W-6) for n <= 8 which is the first step for us to determine R(T-n, W-6) for any tree T-n.

Abstract:The Ramsey numbers $R(T_n,W_8)$ are determined for each tree graph $T_n$ of order $n\geq 7$ and maximum degree $\Delta(T_n)$ equal to either $n-4$ or $n-5$. These numbers indicate strong support for the conjecture, due to Chen, Zhang and Zhang and to Hafidh and Baskoro, that $R(T_n,W_m) = 2n-1$ for each tree graph $T_n$ of order $n\geq m-1$ with $\Delta(T_n)\leq n-m+2$ when $m\geq 4$ is even.

Abstract:For two given graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$, the Ramsey number $R(G_1,G_2)$ is the smallest integer n such that for any graph G of order n, either G contains $G_1$ or its complement ${\overline{G}}$ contains $G_2$. Let $P_n, S_n$ and $T_n$ denote a path, a star and a tree of order n, respectively. A generalized wheel, denoted by $W_{s,m}$, is the join of a complete graph $K_s$ and a cycle $C_m$. In this paper, we show that $R(T_n,W_{s,4})=(n-1)(s+1)+1$ for $n\ge 3,s\ge 2$ and $R(T_n,W_{s,5})=(n-1)(s+2)+1$ for $n\ge 3,s\ge 1$. These generalize some known results on Ramsey numbers for a tree versus a wheel.

Abstract:For graphs G1 and G2, the Ramsey number R(G1,G2) is the smallest integer N such that, for any graph G of order N, G contains G1 as a subgraph or the complement of G contains G2 as a subgraph. Let Tn denote a tree of order n, Wn a wheel of order n+1 and Fn a fan of order 2n+1. We establish Ramsey numbers for fans and trees versus wheels of even order, thereby extending several known results. In particular, we prove that R(Fn,Wm)=6n+1 for odd m≥3 and n≥(5m+3)/4, and that R(Tn,Wm)=3n−2 for odd m≥3 and n≥m−2, and Tn being a tree for which the Erdős–Sós Conjecture holds.

Abstract:For two graphs G and H, the Ramsey number R(G, H) is the smallest integer n such that for any n-vertex graph, either it contains G or its complement contains H. Let Sn$$S_{n}$$ be a star of order n and Ws,m$$W_{s,m}$$ be a generalised wheel Ks∨Cm.$$K_{s}\vee C_{m}.$$ Previous studies by Wang and Chen (Graphs Comb 35(1):189–193, 2019) and Chng et al. (Discret Math 344(8):112440, 2021) imply that a tree is Ws,4$$W_{s,4}$$-good, Ws,5$$W_{s,5}$$-good, Ws,6$$W_{s,6}$$-good, and Ws,7$$W_{s,7}$$-good for s⩾2.$$s\geqslant 2.$$ In this paper, we study the Ramsey numbers R(Sn,Ws,8),$$R(S_{n}, W_{s,8}),$$ and our results indicate that trees are not always Ws,8$$W_{s,8}$$-good.

Abstract:For given graphs G_1, G_2, … , G_k , k≥ 2 , the k -color Ramsey number, denoted by R(G_1, G_2, … , G_k) , is the smallest integer N such that if we arbitrarily color the edges of a complete graph of order N with k colors, then it always contains a monochromatic copy of G_i in color i , for some 1 ≤ i ≤ k . Let C_m be a cycle of length m and W_n a wheel of order n+1 . In this paper, we show that R(C_4, C_4, W_ n)≤ n+⌈√(4n+5)⌉ +3 for n=42, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52 or n≥ 56 . Furthermore, we prove that R(C_4, C_4, W_ℓ ^2-ℓ)≤ℓ ^2+ℓ +2 for ℓ≥ 9 , and if ℓ is a prime power, then the equality holds.

Let T-n, be a tree of order n, S-n a star of order n, and F-m a fan of order 2m + 1, i.e., m triangles sharing exactly one vertex. In this paper, we prove that R(T-n, F-m) = 2n - 1 for n >= 3m(2) - 2m - 1, and if T-n = S-n, then the range can be replaced by n >= max{m(m - 1) + 1, 6(m - 1)}, which is tight in some sense. For graphs G and H , the star-critical Ramsey number r * ( G, H ) is the minimum integer k such that any red/blue edge-coloring of K r −1 ⨆ K 1, k contains a red copy of G or a blue copy of H , where r is the classical Ramsey number R ( G, H ). Let C m denote a cycle of order m and W n a wheel of order n + 1. Hook (2010) proved that r * ( W n , C 3 ) = n + 3 for n ≥ 6. In this paper, we show that r * ( W n , C m ) = n + 3 for m odd, m ≥ 5 and n ≥ 3( m − 1)/2 + 2.

We consider the case that G_1 is a cycle and G_2 is a (generalized) wheel. We expand the knowledge on exact values of Ramsey numbers in three directions: large cycles versus wheels of odd order; large wheels versus cycles of even order; and large cycles versus generalized odd wheels.

Abstract:The notion of the restricted size Ramsey number arises from the amalgamation of the theory of Ramsey numbers and the size Ramsey number for graphs. The concept of the (restricted) size Ramsey number of small graphs was first introduced by Harary and Miller in 1983. They derived specific values for certain pairs of small graphs, each having a maximum count of four vertices. In that same year, R. J. Faudree and J. Sheehan furthered the research and expanded the findings to encompass all the pairs of small graphs with a maximum order of four. The restricted size Ramsey number and size Ramsey number for all pairs of small forests of maximum order five was given by Lortz and Mengersen in 1998. In this study, our research endeavours to advance the understanding of the restricted size Ramsey number by ascertaining the restricted size Ramsey numbers and restricted size Ramsey minimal graphs involving 2K2 and wheel graph upto order six. More specifically, we find r * (2K2, W3) = r* (2K2, W4) = 15 and r * (2K2, W5) = 19.
