Abstract:A method for rebuilding Web hierarchy structure in order to increase the efficiency of search engine,Web management and recommender system,etc.was proposed.By analyzing the structural information,such as information,directory information and link information the Web tag structure graph was defined and built on the basis of artificial intelligence and graph theory.The Dijkstral algorithm was applied to extract the hierarchy of the Web site.The algorithm structure is composed of five layers: display layer,Web layer,page analysis layer,pretreatment layer and link layer.Experimental results show that the algorithm can be implemented with great efficiency and speed,and that the Web hierarchy structure is correct.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a recursive method for structural learning of directed acyclic graphs (DAGs), in which a problem of structural learning for a large DAG is first decomposed into two problems of structural learning for two small vertex subsets, each of which is then decomposed recursively into two problems of smaller subsets until none subset can be decomposed further. In our approach, search for separators of a pair of variables in a large DAG is localized to small subsets, and thus the approach can improve the efficiency of searches and the power of statistical tests for structural learning. We show how the recent advances in the learning of undirected graphical models can be employed to facilitate the decomposition. Simulations are given to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:Recent years have witnessed an emergence of graph-based applications that strongly demand efficient processing of graph-based queries and searches. In many real applications such as chem- and bio-informatics, road networks, social networks, etc., efficiently and effectively conducting structure search on graphs is a key. The problem of structure search on graphs and its variants are NP-complete. The presence of a large number of graphs makes the problem computationally more intractable. In this talk, I will introduce recent techniques in graph structure search with the focus on our recent work published in SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, etc. My talk will cover the problems of substructure search, superstructure search, and substructure similarity search.

Abstract:This paper use the decomposition of assembly connection graph to generate and/or graph representation of all feasible assembly sequences. In order to generate and/or graph efficiently, we first use local geometrical feasibility and global geometrical feasibility conditions to check valid disassembling; then we use three rules to simplify the computation of feasible disassembling. Finally we use component hierarchy graph to retrieve preferred subassemblies to simplify assembly connection graph. After using these three methods, the size of and/or graph can be decreased dramatically, all feasible assembly sequences can be generated correctly and completely.
Graph Database Indexing Using Structured Graph Decomposition.

Abstract:We introduce a novel method of indexing graph databases in order to facilitate subgraph isomorphism and similarity queries. The index is comprised of two major data structures. The primary structure is a directed acyclic graph which contains a node for each of the unique, induced subgraphs of the database graphs. The secondary structure is a hash table which cross-indexes each subgraph for fast isomorphic lookup. In order to create a hash key independent of isomorphism, we utilize a code-based canonical representation of adjacency matrices, which we have further refined to improve computation speed. We validate the concept by demonstrating its effectiveness in answering queries for two practical datasets. Our experiments show that for subgraph isomorphism queries, our method outperforms existing methods by more than an order of magnitude.

Abstract:Chain graphs present a broad class of graphical models for description of conditional independence structures, including both Markov networks and Bayesian networks as special cases. In this paper, we propose a computationally feasible method for the structural learning of chain graphs based on the idea of decomposing the learning problem into a set of smaller scale problems on its decomposed subgraphs. The decomposition requires conditional independencies but does not require the separators to be complete subgraphs. Algorithms for both skeleton recovery and complex arrow orientation are presented. Simulations under a variety of settings demonstrate the competitive performance of our method, especially when the underlying graph is sparse.

Abstract:Communities are prevalent in social networks, knowledge graphs, and biological networks. Recently, the topic of community search (CS), extracting a dense subgraph containing a query vertex q from a graph, has received great attention. However, existing CS solutions are designed for undirected graphs, and overlook directions of edges which potentially lose useful information carried on directions. In many applications (e.g., Twitter), users' relationships are often modeled as directed graphs (e.g., if a user a follows another user b, then there is an edge from a to b). In this paper, we study the problem of CS on directed graph. Given a vertex q of a graph G, we aim to find a densely connected subgraph containing q from G, in which vertices have strong interactions and high similarities, by using the minimum in/out-degrees metric. We first develop a baseline algorithm based on the concept of D-core. We further propose three index structures and corresponding query algorithms. Our experimental results on seven real graphs show that our solutions are very effective and efficient.

Abstract:Causal discovery plays a vital role in the human understanding of the world. Searching a directed acyclic graph (DAG) from observed data is one of the most widely used methods. However, in most existing approaches, the global search has poor scalability, and the local search is often insufficient to discover a reliable causal graph. In this paper, we propose a generic metaheuristic method to discover the causal relationship in the DAG itself instead in of any equivalent but indirect substitutes. We first propose several novel heuristic factors to expand the search space and maintain acyclicity. Second, using these factors, we propose a metaheuristic algorithm to further search for the optimal solution closer to real causality in the DAG space. Theoretical studies show the correctness of our proposed method. Extensive experiments are conducted to verify its generalization ability, scalability, and effectiveness on real-world and simulated structures for both discrete and continuous models by comparing it with other state-of-the-art causal solvers. We also compare the performance of our method with that of a state-of-the-art approach on well-known medical data.

Abstract:ABSTRACTSubstructure similarity search is to retrieve graphs that approximately contain a given query graph. It has many applications, e.g., detecting similar functions among chemical compounds. The problem is challenging as even testing subgraph containment between two graphs is NP-complete. Hence, existing techniques adopt the filtering-and-verification framework with the focus on developing effective and efficient techniques to remove non-promising graphs. Nevertheless, existing filtering techniques may be still unable to effectively remove many "low" quality candidates. To resolve this, in this paper we propose a novel indexing technique, GrafD-Index, to index graphs according to their "distances" to features. We characterize a tight condition under which the distance-based triangular inequality holds. We then develop lower and upper bounding techniques that exploit the GrafD-Index to (1) prune non-promising graphs and (2) include graphs whose similarities are guaranteed to exceed the given similarity threshold. Considering that the verification phase is not well studied and plays the dominant role in the whole process, we devise efficient algorithms to verify candidates. A comprehensive experiment using real datasets demonstrates that our proposed methods significantly outperform existing methods.

Abstract:Multi-graphs where several edges connect a pair of nodes are an important modelling approach for many real-world optimisation problems. The multi-graph structure is often based on infrastructure and available connections between nodes. In this study, we conduct case studies for a special type of constrained routing and scheduling problems. Using the airport ground movement problem as an example, we analyse how the number of parallel edges and their costs in multi-graph structure influence the quality of obtained solutions found by the routing algorithm. The results show that the number of parallel edges not only affects the computational complexity but also the number of trade-off solutions and the quality of the found solutions. An indicator is further proposed which can estimate when the multi-graph would benefit from a higher number of parallel edges. Furthermore, we show that including edges with dominated costs in the multi-graph can also improve the results in the presence of time window constraints. The findings pave the way to an informed approach to multi-graph creation for similar problems based on multi-graphs.

Abstract:For two planar undirected graphs $G$ and $H$, the {\it subgraphs recognition problem} (SRP) is to find and list all subgraphs of $G$ which are isomorphic to $H$. In this paper, we introduce the idea of layer-decomposition with degree and present an algorithm based on this idea for SRP. Since subgraphs isomorphic to each other contain their spanning trees with the same decomposition, the SRP can be decomposed into two subproblems: First, find subtrees of $G$ which have the same layer-decomposition as that of $H$. Then, test whether the induced subgraphs generated by these subtrees are isomorphic to $H$. By this scheme, we greatly decrease the complexity to $O(n(\Delta-1)^{k-1}k^2)$, where $\Delta$ is the degree of $G$ and $n, k$ are the orders of $G, H$ respectively.

Abstract:AbstractSupergraph search is one of fundamental graph query processing problems in many application domains. Given a query graph and a set of data graphs, supergraph search is to find all the data graphs contained in the query graph as subgraphs. In existing algorithms, index construction or filtering approaches are computationally expensive, and search methods can cause redundant computations. In this paper, we introduce four new concepts to address these limitations: (1) DAG integration, (2) dynamic programming between integrated DAG and graph, (3) active-first search, and (4) relevance-size order, which together lead to a much faster and scalable algorithm for supergraph search. Extensive experiments with real datasets show that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms by up to orders of magnitude in terms of indexing time and query processing time.

Abstract:Proximity search on heterogeneous graphs aims to measure the proximity between two nodes on a graph w.r.t. some semantic relation for ranking. Pioneer work often tries to measure such proximity by paths connecting the two nodes. However, paths as linear sequences have limited expressiveness for the complex network connections. In this paper, we explore a more expressive DAG (directed acyclic graph) data structure for modeling the connections between two nodes. Particularly, we are interested in learning a representation for the DAGs to encode the proximity between two nodes. We face two challenges to use DAGs, including how to efficiently generate DAGs and how to effectively learn DAG embedding for proximity search. We find distance-awareness as important for proximity search and the key to solve the above challenges. Thus we develop a novel Distance-aware DAG Embedding (D2AGE) model. We evaluate D2AGE on three benchmark data sets with six semantic relations, and we show that D2AGE outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines. We release the code on https://github.com/shuaiOKshuai.

Abstract:Directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) encode a lot of information about a particular distribution in their structure. However, compute required to infer these structures is typically super-exponential in the number of variables, as inference requires a sweep of a combinatorially large space of potential structures. That is, until recent advances made it possible to search this space using a differentiable metric, drastically reducing search time. While this technique -- named NOTEARS -- is widely considered a seminal work in DAG-discovery, it concedes an important property in favour of differentiability: transportability. To be transportable, the structures discovered on one dataset must apply to another dataset from the same domain. We introduce D-Struct which recovers transportability in the discovered structures through a novel architecture and loss function while remaining fully differentiable. Because D-Struct remains differentiable, our method can be easily adopted in existing differentiable architectures, as was previously done with NOTEARS. In our experiments, we empirically validate D-Struct with respect to edge accuracy and structural Hamming distance in a variety of settings.

An Effective Method for Community Search in Large Directed Attributed Graphs.

Abstract:Recently there is an increasing need for online community analysis on large scale graphs. Community search (CS), which can retrieve communities efficiently on a query request, has received significant research attention. However, existing CS methods leave edge direction and vertex attributes out of consideration, which results in poor performance of community accuracy and cohesiveness. In this paper, we propose DACQ (directed attribute community query), a novel framework of retrieving effective communities in directed attributed graphs. DACQ first supplements attributes according to the topological structure and generate attribute combinations, after which DACQ finds the strongly connected k-cores (k-SCS) with attributes in the directed graph. Finally, DACQ retrieves effective communities, which are cohesive in terms of the structure and attributes. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed algorithms in large scale directed attributed graphs.

Abstract:We propose to address the task of causal structure learning from data in a supervised manner. Existing work on learning causal directions by supervised learning is restricted to learning pairwise relation, and not well suited for whole DAG discovery. We propose a novel approach of modeling the whole DAG structure discovery as a supervised learning. To fit the problem in hand, we propose to use permutation equivariant models that align well with the problem domain. We evaluate the proposed approach extensively on synthetic graphs of size 10,20,50,100 and real data, and show promising results compared with a variety of previous approaches.

Abstract:Learning the structure of Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) presents a significant challenge due to the vast combinatorial search space of possible graphs, which scales exponentially with the number of nodes. Recent advancements have redefined this problem as a continuous optimization task by incorporating differentiable acyclicity constraints. These methods commonly rely on algebraic characterizations of DAGs, such as matrix exponentials, to enable the use of gradient-based optimization techniques. Despite these innovations, existing methods often face optimization difficulties due to the highly non-convex nature of DAG constraints and the per-iteration computational complexity. In this work, we present a novel framework for learning DAGs, employing a Stochastic Approximation approach integrated with Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD)-based optimization techniques. Our framework introduces new projection methods tailored to efficiently enforce DAG constraints, ensuring that the algorithm converges to a feasible local minimum. With its low iteration complexity, the proposed method is well-suited for handling large-scale problems with improved computational efficiency. We demonstrate the effectiveness and scalability of our framework through comprehensive experimental evaluations, which confirm its superior performance across various settings.
