Abstract:The Smart Classroom project explores the challenges and potentials of the Intelligent Environment as a new human-computer interaction paradigm. By constructing an intelligent classroom for tele-education, we try to provide teachers the same experiences as in an ordinary classroom when giving tele-education lessons. The Smart Classroom could actively observe, listen and serve the teachers, and teachers can write on a wall-size media-board just by their hands, or use speeches and gestures to conduct the class discussion involving of the distant students. This paper discusses the advantages and main underlying technologies of this system.

Abstract:Smart Classroom is an augmented classroom in which Tele-education functions can be seamlessly integrated with the face-to-face education environment. Some recent achievements of this project is described here. The first is the development of the Virtual Assistant module, which can enhance the speech interaction between the teacher and the system. Following is the integration of a SmartBoard screen and the development of a laser pointer tracking module, which replaces the former Virtual Mouse. Finally, a module called Smart Cameraman is developed. This module can automatically select the video to send to the remote students, from the cameras in the classroom that is most appropriate to the current context of the class

Abstract:In this paper, we present our current work on Intelligent Environment - the Smart Classroom project. It is an augmented classroom used for teachers in the distant education. The teacher can write directly on a wall-size media-board or use speech and gesture to conduct the class discussion involving of the distant students. It is just the experience that the teacher was familiar with in the ordinary classroom educations. This paper explained the motivation of this project and discussed the main challenges of the project, which we considered also have significances to other Intelligent Environment projects. Our current progress and the approaches we used are also described.

Abstract:Real-time interactive virtual classrooms play an important role in distance learning. However currently available systems are insufficient in supporting large-scale user access, and they cannot efficiently support accessing with heterogeneous devices and networks. Furthermore, these systems are usually desktop-based, until the result that the teacher’s experience is completely different from teaching in a real physical classroom. This paper discusses the Smart Remote Classroom project that deals with these difficulties using the following novel technologies: 1) A hybrid transport layer multicast protocol called TORM and an adaptive content delivery scheme called AMTM, which work together to enable large-scale users to access a virtual classroom with different devices and networks synchronously. 2) A dedicated software called SameView, which takes use of the proposed TORM and AMTM technology, and provides a rich set of functions for teachers and students to efficiently carry out the real-time interactive tele-education. 3) The Classroom augmented by Smart Space technology called Smart Classroom where the user interfaces of the SameView are incorporated in the classroom space. Thus the teacher can instruct the remote students just like teaching face to face in a conventional classroom. All these technologies have been successfully integrated and demonstrated in the prototype system at Tsinghua University.

Abstract:Recently the popularity of smart phones has promoted communication for daily life, but it also brings new challenges for current classroom teaching. For example, some students spend too much time on playing phones instead of learning in the classroom. How to effectively instruct students to use phones and promote teaching becomes a very tricky problem. In order to deal with this problem, we propose a new real-time interaction platform for classroom teaching based on smart phone APP, which adopts the extensive multilayer framework and the quantifiable real-time interaction. In this platform, it's easy for teachers to set questions at any time or place, start exercises in class and view real-time statistical analysis results. And it's also easy for students to answer questions in exercises and view results after finishing exercises. What's more, this platform can strengthen the interaction between teachers and students, and stimulate the interest of all students to participate in classroom learning. Results show that our platform can improve teaching effect.

Abstract:The real-time interactive virtual classroom with tele-education experience is an important approach in distance learning. However, most current systems fail to meet the new challenges raised by the development of the service-oriented architecture. First, the learning systems should be able to facilitate easier integration of increasingly dedicated services, such as language services on the Internet. Second, the learning systems must open their internal interfaces as web services to other systems, so as to enable deeper integration of these systems and easier deployment. Third, the systems are expected to provide flexible interfaces to support mobile device interaction. To address these issues, we build a prototype system, called Open Smart Classroom, by upgrading the original Smart Classroom into a service-oriented open system. With the help of Language Grid services, two Open Smart Classrooms deployed in Tsinghua University and Kyoto University are connected and experimental co-classes have been successfully held. The results of the user study show that integrating Smart Classroom and language services is an interesting and promising approach to building future multicultural distant learning systems.

Abstract:Real-time interactive virtual classroom with tele-education experience is an important type of distance learning, while the current available systems are not able to connect different classrooms in open network for intercontinental and intercultural learning. Open Smart Classroom, which is an upgrade learning system based on Smart Classroom using Web Service technology, provides more extensible and scalable features to tackle the new requirements and challenges of distance learning. Open Smart Classroom is developed based on Open Smart Platform, the software computing infrastructure for Smart Space, which provide three new features: 1) open and standard interface for better mobile devices connection and communication without any prior configuration; 2) open services invocation channel between inside modules and outside systems 3) open network in which multiple Smart Spaces can connect and communicate with each other. Making use of these new features, Open Smart Classroom shows a novel and interesting experience to both of the teachers and students for intercultural and intercontinental distant learning, which also gives a significant research perspective of future distance blended learning system.

Books can also be fabricated with bits for browsing multimedia learning materials. Bits from cyberspace and atoms from real world will be more and more blended into each other. Abstract:The article describes the possibilities of mobile learning to implement the innovative educational concept of Smart Classroom. To increase the effectiveness of international partnerships and to develop opportunities for creating innovative projects in relevant socio-economic areas, an online forum "Engineering of educational courses in the medical and pharmaceutical industry" was held. Proficonf videoconferencing system made it possible to organize five online meetings on digital technologies in the training of modern pharmaceutical personnel within the concept of "Smart Classroom". The study results show that under digital transformation of the educational paradigm, it is advisable to consider a curriculum development strategy in the university ("Smart Campus"). Based on the study results, one can conclude that implementing the concept of "Smart Classroom" allows one to improve teaching methods and interaction between students at all stages of international educational relations. Abstract:The integration of advanced technologies is revolutionizing classrooms, significantly enhancing their intelligence, interactivity, and personalization. Central to this transformation are sensor technologies, which play pivotal roles. While numerous surveys summarize research progress in classrooms, few studies focus on the integration of sensor and AI technologies in developing smart classrooms. This systematic review classifies sensors used in smart classrooms and explores their current applications from both hardware and software perspectives. It delineates how different sensors enhance educational outcomes and the crucial role AI technologies play. The review highlights how sensor technology improves the physical classroom environment, monitors physiological and behavioral data, and is widely used to boost student engagements, manage attendance, and provide personalized learning experiences. Additionally, it shows that combining sensor software algorithms with AI technology not only enhances the data processing and analysis efficiency but also expands sensor capabilities, enriching their role in smart classrooms. The article also addresses challenges such as data privacy protection, cost, and algorithm optimization associated with emerging sensor technologies, proposing future research directions to advance educational sensor technologies.

Abstract:With the expansion of teaching scale and the rapid development of educational information, a smart classroom management system based on speech recognition has been proposed and developed to improve the information level of smart classroom management. This paper discusses the application of multimedia equipment control. The system relies on the mature campus network in the way of cloud and local speech database for speech recognition. The application of the system proves that the smart classroom management system based on speech recognition in cloud architecture has more advantages than the traditional multimedia classroom management system and also has definite expansibility. It facilitates the unified management of the school, improves the efficiency of administrators, saves a lot of human and financial resources, and greatly promotes the development of school information construction. The smart classroom becomes a new direction in the application of information technology in the field of teaching and learning and is a smart learning scenario for improving the learning and teaching scenario. This paper focuses on the use of smart classroom as a supplementary teaching tool to improve Chinese language teaching and learning and illustrates the optimization of the teaching environment by smart classroom in terms of vocabulary learning and listening and speaking training.

Abstract:Abstract In the “Internet+” era, the smart classroom has emerged as a significant focal point in the research on educational informatization. This advancement represents a synergistic melding of novel technologies and academic practices. Accordingly, this study proposes a smart classroom teaching model tailored for accounting courses in higher education institutions. Within this framework, we have developed a specialized model to evaluate teaching efficacy in such environments. This evaluation model incorporates an enhanced version of the basic YOLOv5s model, which has been modified in three key areas to facilitate the detection of students’ facial expressions during lectures. Furthermore, to accommodate low-resolution images, the model integrates an advanced DRN-F face super-resolution reconstruction algorithm, thereby augmenting the accuracy of face recognition. This paper introduces a composite model for assessing the effectiveness of smart classroom teaching by amalgamating the two refined models. Comparative analysis with traditional manual recognition methods reveals that our model aligns more closely with the actual attentive responses of students when their faces are unobscured. A practical study on the teaching application further substantiates the efficacy of the smart classroom approach. Employing an independent sample t-test, the findings demonstrate a statistically significant difference in the post-test scores between the experimental and control groups, with a Sig. Value of 0.001 (p<0.05). This indicates that the learning achievements of students under the smart classroom model are significantly enhanced compared to those in conventional teaching settings.

Abstract:Smart learning strategies have proved to be effective for college education with the development of smart devices. However, most smart learning strategies pay extreme attentions to smart devices and ignore the in-classroom feedback of students. As a result, college students sometimes regard smart leaning as in-classroom tasks and fail to obtain effective interactions with teachers. To overcome the weakness of the current smart learning strategies, this study focuses on the strategy that makes college students fully participate in the process of the smart classroom. An improved smart classroom paradigm is proposed to offer college students a better environment with abundant communications to both smart devices and college teachers in the classroom. In this improved strategy, college teachers become the handler of smart devices and lead students to participate in relevant tasks. On the other hand, college students will follow the instructions from teachers and study under an improved smart learning environment with direct course guidance. To prove the effectiveness of the proposed framework, a preliminary practice has been experimented on a college course named “Sensor and Detection Technology”.
