Abstract:In the recent years, the hardware technology, high bandwidth network and 3D graphics systems bring the virtual reality (VR) technology into a new field: collaborative virtual environment (CVE). This field's goal is to use computers as tools for communication and information share. CVE is different from distributed virtual environment (DVE), it concerns more about the collaboration and the consistency in the cooperative work. And Java 3D is a new 3D technology, it offers a simple way to build up other virtual environments, and make the cooperation between the users easier to realize and control. By leveraging the inherent strengths of the Java language, Java 3D technology extends the concept of "write once, run anywhere" to 3D graphics applications, which makes the applications be independent of the hardware and software plat flat. So we put forward a new framework of the CVE system based on Java 3D technology. In this framework, we give a system architecture to realize scalability, persistence, consistency, and other requirements in CVE, and further more, it can realize complex cooperative works.

Abstract:This paper presents a framework for building web-based collaborative workspaces using the latest Java technologies - Java 3D, JavaServer Page (JSP), and Java Servlet. This web-based approach allows designers, engineers and production managers to share a common workspace that can be used for design review, production monitoring, remote control, and trouble-shooting, based on a set of interactive Java 3D models that represent the physical world with common interests. Following a brief overview of the related research work, this paper discusses the Java 3D concept from its scene graph structure to behavior control, and explains our approach to building web-based collaborative workspaces using Java 3D. The proposed framework uses the popular client-server architecture and view-control-model design pattern with a secured session control. Control logic and the interfaces, which interact with the real world, are handled by an application server through servlets. The benefits enabled by the framework include reduced net-work traffic, increased flexibility of remote monitoring, interactive control, web-based synchronous collaboration and quick response. It also shows a large potential for various web-based real-time and distributed applications.

Abstract:The Java virtual machine(JVM)is used more frequently as the basic engine behind dynamic web services.With the proliferation of network attacks on these network resources,much work are done to provide security for the network environment.Little effort has been placed on securing a Java web server where the attacker has a valid login to the host machine.After describing the vulnerabilities in Java's security mechanisms,an extended security system based on Java 2 security architecture is introduced.It also explains the runtime status of system.The increased assurance of correct system operation and the integrity of Java application server are provided.

Abstract:With the development of the network the Web-based multimedia application is becoming more and more popular. How to develop such a system quickly and effectively is becoming a research field. This paper introduces a multimedia subsystem in the Web-based real-time cooperative edit system and gives the way to develop a Web-based multimedia system. We first discuss the Web-based multimedia system's architecture based on the network bandwidth, server load, haleness and so on and then put forward a hybrid system architecture. Combined with the Java media framework (JMF), real-time transport protocol (RPT), Internet group management protocol (IGMP) technology, we introduce the key steps to develop a Web-based multimedia system.

Abstract:A visual design platform enables geographically dispersed users to cooperate with each other. This paper proposes a real-time collaborative framework for 3D design based on HTML5. By using this framework to build collaborative web applications, users can work collaboratively to assemble 3D components, expand the component library, and manage users and data. Moreover, the framework can also synchronize scene data in real-time. A 3D satellite collaborative design application has been developed, and the performance of the application shows that our framework proves to be encouraging.

Abstract:The author discusses how the World Wide Web and Java mark the death of fatware and the birth of dynamic computing built on rented components. The real paradigm shift will be the replacement of purchased software packages with transaction-oriented rental of Java applets attached to Web pages. In the move to a full-scale Internet based application development environment, developers are grappling with seven key issues: how to integrate e-mail, FTP, and HTML; the absolute need for security; the dearth of high-end visual tools; configuration management and version control; support for a flexible, sophisticated user interface; a common development environment; and performance, which has several components. Each of these issues are discussed by the author.

Abstract:To utilize the advantages of existing and emerging Internet techniques and to meet the demands for a new generation of collaborative working environments, a framework with an upperware–middleware architecture is proposed, which consists of four layers: resource layer, middleware layer, upperware layer and application layer. The upperware contains intelligent agents and plug/play facilities; the former coordinates and controls multiple middleware techniques such as Grid computing, Web-services and mobile agents, while the latter are used for the applications, such as semantic CAD, to plug and loose couple into the system. The method of migrating legacy software using automatic wrapper generation technique is also presented. A prototype mobile environment for collaborative product design is presented to illustrate the utilization of the CWE framework in collaborative design and manufacture.

Abstract:Focusing on the problems occurred in traditional 2D image-word-based web applications, the author put forward concept of integrating Web3D, Flex and SSH technologies to create advanced "3D Virtual Reality & RIA" web application architecture, researched mechanisms of their architectures, and implemented their integration and communication & interaction: Flex and Struts2 via XML, Flex and Spring & Hibernate via BlazeDS, Flex and Web3D via JavaScript.The practice has shown that the integrated web architecture based on Web3D, Flex and SSH is effective and valuable.

Abstract:This article presents three educational applications developed in these worlds. The first, for virtual museum of history and culture, shows a set of virtual worlds designed in VRML where the student interacts with different objects. When an object is selected, its name can be show and the student can listen to its history. In the following application, a virtual classroom,the created world can be shared simultaneously by several users. Finally, the latest advances in the creation of virtual environments have been applied in the third application using a game server. This has made possible the design of a more realistic world where the student can interact with other users and share his experiences.

Abstract:The convergence of business, technology, and market forces have brought about the computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) phenomena. Many CSCW systems adopt an inflexible style of collaboration and coordination. The problem becomes obvious when different application tools are integrated into a single, comprehensive CSCW system and various applications need different degrees of interaction mode. We introduce JMS (Java-based meeting space), an object-oriented framework for developing synchronous collaborative applications. The JMS framework provides a comprehensive collection of services that supports cooperative interaction at system level. The application developers can tailor some of these services to the specific needs of particular collaborative applications and usage situations. These services are grouped into three main categories. First, FIS provides session management service supporting dynamic integration of application tools as well as dynamic membership. Second, group awareness service guarantees allotted communications within a session. Third, JMS offers floor control service accommodating a set of policies as well as underlying mechanisms. The application developer can bind a floor control to an application tool and switch from one floor policy to another during the session. Our implementation is based on a fully, object-oriented replicated architecture in which the application and management services are replicated at each site. To illustrate the feasibility of FIS in a practical organizational environment, an electronic meeting incorporating voting has been built on the JMS framework. We also provide a brief overview of CSCW and its significance in organizational computing-in electronic meeting, in particular-and compare JMS with other related works.

Abstract:Visualization is very important for High Performance Computing (HPC), but it is difficult to be implemented in Internet environment. First, the traditional approaches require specified software to be installed previously, but the HPC users plan to see the visualization result from their own Internet browser. Second, the massive quantity of data comes from HPC cannot be transmitted easily via Internet. The paper presents a Java 3D solution, which will automatically install the user's 3D environment when the user browses the HPC website, and small applets along with simplified data stream will be transmitted to the user end to control the 3D models. The approach make the Internet-based dynamic visualization as good as that of the local-based.

Abstract:Concurrent sharing of 3D product model is the key factor for the successful cooperation inside a multifunctional design team composed of engineers from different fields. A software framework supported by web technology and popular 3D design tool--Pro/Engineer is implemented to facilitate the designers (including customers) to collaborate at different places while at the same time. Abstract:This paper describes the implementation of Java Meeting Space (JMS), a generic, extensible framework and environment for developing synchronous collaborative applications. The JMS framework is based on a fully object-oriented replicated architecture where the application instances and management services are all replicated at each site. JMS provides basic CSCW coordination services: session management and dynamic floor control services. As a framework, it provides a set of programming interfaces that allow an application developer to take advantage of coordination services in the runtime environment.
