Abstract: This paper proposes the problem of mining weighted generalized fuzzy association rules with fuzzy taxonomies (WGF-ARs). It is an extension of the generalized fuzzy association rules with fuzzy taxonomies problem. In order to reflect the importance of different items, the notion of generalized weights is introduced, and leaf-node items and ancestor items are assigned generalized weights in our WGF-ARs. The definitions of weighted support and weighted confidence of WGF-ARs is also proposed. Then a new mining algorithm for WGF-ARs is also proposed, and several optimizations have been applied to reduce the computational complexity of the algorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the traditional association rule problem by allowing a weight to be associated with each item in a transaction to reflect the interest/intensity of each item within the transaction. In turn, this provides us with an opportunity to associate a weight parameter with each item in a resulting association rule; we call them weighted association rules (WAR). One example of such a rule might be 80% of people buying more than three bottles of soda will also be likely to buy more than four packages of snack food, while a conventional association rule might just be 60% of people buying soda will be also be likely to buy snack food. Thus WARs cannot only improve the confidence of the rules, but also provide a mechanism to do more effective target marketing by identifying or segmenting customers based on their potential degree of loyalty or volume of purchases. Our approach mines WARs by first ignoring the weight and finding the frequent itemsets (via a traditional frequent itemset discovery algorithm), followed by introducing the weight during the rule generation. Specifically, the rule generation is achieved by partitioning the weight domain space of each frequent itemset into fine grids, and then identifying the popular regions within the domain space to derive WARs. This approach does not only support the batch mode mining, i.e., finding WARs for the dataset, but also supports the interactive mode, i.e., finding and refining WARs for a given (set) of frequent itemset(s).

Abstract:In order to improve the shortcomings of the original dynamic association rule(DAR for short),this paper presents a new kind of DAR,which can reflect the dynamic information of rule with time better.Its defintions of support vector and confidence vector are accord with the classical defintions of support and confidence.Two new mining algorithms are also provided,which are ITS algorithm and EFP-growth algorithm.ITS algorithm has two stages,and can be well comprehended.EFP-growth algorithm is based on extended FP-tree and suitable for large volumes of data with high density.The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has good performance and is fit for mining DARs.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem of mining quantitative association rules, an algorithm named Fuzzy Pattern Fusion based on Competitive Agglomeration (FPF-CA) is developed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is based on the superior functionalities of Fuzzy Pattern Fusion (FPF) for mining quantitative association rules and Competitive Agglomeration (CA) for finding the optimal number of clusters. The popular data set of UCI machine learning repository is used to demonstrate the feasibility of the FPF-CA algorithm. The simulation experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently mine quantitative association rules according to the actual data distribution.

Abstract:To overcome the failure in eliminating suspicious patterns or association rules existing in traditional association rules mining, we propose a novel method to mine item-item and between-set correlated association rules. First, we present three measurements: the association, correlation, and item-set correlation measurements. In the association measurement, the all-confidence measure is used to filter suspicious cross-support patterns, while the all-item-confidence measure is applied in the correlation measurement to eliminate spurious association rules that contain negatively correlated items. Then, we define the item-set correlation measurement and show its corresponding properties. By using this measurement, spurious association rules in which the antecedent and consequent item-sets are negatively correlated can be eliminated. Finally, we propose item-item and between-set correlated association rules and two mining algorithms, I&ISCoMine_AP and I&ISCoMine_CT. Experimental results with synthetic and real retail datasets show that the proposed method is effective and valid.
Density-Based Mining of Quantitative Association Rules

Abstract:Many algorithms have been proposed for mining of boolean association rules. However, very little work has been done in mining quantitative association rules. Although we can transform quantitative attributes into boolean attributes, this approach is not effective and is difficult to scale up for high dimensional case and also may result in many imprecise association rules. Newly designed algorithms for quantitative association rules still are persecuted by nonscalable and noise problem. In this paper, an efficient algorithm, QAR-miner, is proposed. By using the notion of "density" to capture the characteristics of quantitative attributes and an efficient procedure to locate the "dense regions", QAR-miner not only can solve the problems of previous approaches, but also can scale up well for high dimensional case. Evaluations on QAR-miner have been performed using both synthetic and real databases. Preliminary results show that QAR-miner is effective and can scale up quite linearly with the increasing number of attributes.

Abstract:The mining of weighted association rules is one of the primary methods used in communication alarm correlation analysis. With large communication alarm database, the traditional methods often treated each item evenly that makes the process of mining association rules time consuming. To improve the efficiency, items appearing in transactions are weighted using the analytic hierarchy process to reflect the importance of them which is more meaningful in some application. This paper implements a fast and stable algorithm to mining weighted association rules based on ISS(item sequence sets). Experiments on performance study will prove the superiority of the new algorithm.

Abstract:Association rule mining is a key issue in data mining. However, the classical models ignore the difference between the transactions, and the weighted association rule mining does not work on databases with only binary attributes. In this paper, we introduce a new measure w-support, which does not require preassigned weights. It takes the quality of transactions into consideration using link-based models. A fast mining algorithm is given, and a large amount of experimental results are presented.

Abstract:In association rule mining,the traditional statistical measures,such as support and confidence,tend to generate too many spurious patterns,which cannot reflect user's requirement accurately.In order to solve this problem and obtain rule knowledge based on end users' real demand,this work proposed a new benefit measure according to the view of decision-making.The anti-monotony property about the new measure was proved,and the relationship and transforming method between constraint template and benefit measure were investigated.Moreover,an effective association rule mining algorithm PCBARM was presented.Experimental results showed the effectiveness of the benefit measure and the efficiency of PCBARM algorithm.The proposed measure not only can be used as a general realization algorithm for rule template but also provides more precise control.
Mining Weighted Association Rules Based On Maximal Weight

Abstract:Mining association rules can find out some potential correlations in large quantity of data and have been applied widely in many fields. Many algorithms have been proposed for mining weighted association rules to reflect the different importance and unbalance of individual items in database. In most of the algorithms the weighted support of the association rule is defined based on the average weight, which can not make the item with a heavy weight in an outstanding position. In order to resolve such a problem in some applications, the weighted support of a rule based on ID the maximal weight were defined and a new model of mining weighted association rules is constructed. The algorithm of mining weighted frequent itemsets is presented accordingly. In the algorithm the frequent 1-itemsets and the candidate 1-itemsets are used to bring candidate 2-itemsets in order to ensure the result is exhaustive. The algorithm is realized with Visual Basic 6.0. Experiments are conducted on a large number of shopping data in supper market. The experiment results are compared with that of MINWAL (0), they show that the itemsets with the small weight are weighted frequent itemsets and so do the itemsets with the big weight when they have the same frequency.

Abstract:Efficient algorithms for mining frequent itemsets are crucial for mining association rules. As a condensed and complete representation of all the frequent itemsets, closed frequent itemsets mining has arisen a lot of interests in the data mining community. However, most of the studies haven't addressed the effects of noise in the data sets on the algorithms, and there has been limited attention to the development of noise tolerant algorithms.In this paper, we represent a noise tolerant algorithm, DTGC-Tree, which based on an intuitive idea: applying association rules as soon as possible. By this way, the new algorithm could prune a lot of duplicated closed itemsets in the transactional data base. The performance evaluation demonstrates that the proposed algorithm could stand against noise and is both time and space efficient.

Abstract:As a fundamental data mining task, frequent pattern mining has widespread applications in many different domains. Concept lattice is a very useful formal analysis tool. There is a one-to-one correspondence between concept intensions and frequent itemsets. Abundant literature has been conducted in-depth research in mining frequent itemsets and association rules based on the concept lattice. Most of them, however, did not take into account the differences of attributes when building concept lattice. In this paper, we present a new concept called discriminative attributes (discriminative intension). Every attributes has different discriminative power (DISP). In the process of building concept lattice, we can remove the attributes of low discriminative power, then speed up the step of constructing lattice. Furthermore, there has been a new method to calculate the DISP and reset the value under some conditions, but scan the database on each layer, which reduce the times of scanning the database, then decrease the time to generate association rules.

Abstract:Association rules have been widely used for detecting relations between attribute-value pairs of categorical datasets. Existing solutions of mining interesting association rules are based on the support-confidence theory. However, it is non-trivial for the user to understand and modify the rules or the results of intermediate steps in the mining process, because the interestingness of rules might differ largely for various tasks and users. In this paper we propose to reinforce conventional association rule mining process by mapping the entire process into a visualization assisted loop, with which the user workload for modulating parameters and mining rules is reduced, and the mining efficiency is greatly improved. A matrix-based visualization technique is employed to encode the measure computation value, the data distribution and the intermediate results. We also design a set of visual exploration tools to support interactively inspection and manipulation of association measures, constraints of different types, and the results of intermediate steps. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated with various scenarios.

Abstract:In recent years, the problem of association rule mining in transactional data has been well studied. We propose to extend the discovery of classical association rules to the discovery of association rules of conjunctive queries in arbitrary relational data, inspired by the WARMR algorithm, developed by Dehaspe and Toivonen, that discovers association rules over a limited set of conjunctive queries. Conjunctive query evaluation in relational databases is well understood, but still poses some great challenges when approached from a discovery viewpoint in which patterns are generated and evaluated with respect to some well defined search space and pruning operators.

Abstract:Information processing is the main issue of wireless sensor networks, which is attracting more and more attention recently. Based on modified Apriori algorithm, this paper proposes a novel node association rule mining algorithm for exploiting the inherent correlations between sensor readings. This approach can help users to manage data efficiently during aggregation, classification, prediction, query, understanding and decision-making. The simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce computation and communication energy in information processing effectively, shorten data query response time and then prolong the network lifetime.

Abstract:Weighted association rule mining reflects semantic significance of item by considering its weight. Classification constructs the classifier and predicts the new data instance. This paper proposes compact weighted class association rule mining method, which applies weighted association rule mining in the classification and constructs an efficient weighted associative classifier. This proposed associative classification algorithm chooses one non class informative attribute from dataset and all the weighted class association rules are generated based on that attribute. The weight of the item is considered as one of the parameter in generating the weighted class association rules. This proposed algorithm calculates the weight using the HITS model. Experimental results show that the proposed system generates less number of high quality rules which improves the classification accuracy.

Abstract:Association rules mining has been under great attention and considered as one of momentous area in data mining. Classical association rules mining approaches make implicit assumption that items' importance is the same and set a single support for all items. This paper presents an efficient approach for mining users' interest weighted frequent patterns from a transactional database. Our paradigm is to assign appropriate minimum support (minsup) and weight for each item, which reduces the number of unnecessary patterns. Furthermore, we also extend the support-confidence framework and define an interest measure to the mining algorithm for excavating users' interested patterns effectively. In the end, experiments on both synthetic and real world datasets show that the proposed algorithm can generate more interested patterns.

But most of the most current algorithms can only find out the positive-item rules and the interest measure can only be used as a filter. To solve this problem, an idea to find out the negative-item-contained rules is forword put through modification of the related definition and through the introduction of the negative itemset, based on the previous work. The algorithm based on this idea is also given. Finally, the algorithm is evaluated and analyzed through experiments and practices.

Abstract:Association rule mining is one of the most important and basic technique in data mining,which has been studied extensively and has a wide range of applications.However,as traditional data mining algorithms usually only focus on analyzing data organized in single table,applying these algorithms in multi-relational data environment will result in many problems.This paper summarizes these problems,proposes a framework for the mining of multi-relational association rule,and gives a definition of the mining task.After classifying the existing work into two categories,it describes the main techniques used in several typical algorithms,and it also makes comparison and analysis among them.Finally,it points out some issues unsolved and some future further research work in this area.

Abstract:Web recommendation systems based on web usage mining try to mine users' behavior patterns from web access logs, and recommend pages to the online user by matching the user's browsing behavior with the mined historical behavior patterns. Recommendation approaches proposed in previous works, however, do not distinguish the importance of different pageviews, and all the visited pages are treated equally whatever their usefulness to the user. We propose to use pageview duration to judge its usefulness to a user, and try to give more consideration to more useful pageviews, in order to better capture the user's information need and recommend pages more useful to the user. In this paper we try to incorporate pageview weight into the Association Rule (AR) based model and develop a Weighted Association Rule (WAR) model. Comparative experiment of the two shows a significant improvement in the recommendation effectiveness with the proposed WAR model.
