Abstract:We ameliorate the original four-point scheme (called modified four-point scheme) and present the convergence discussion and error estimation. Meanwhile, we obtain the expression of derivative on the endpoints for the limit curve. Therefore, the split joint problem is solved.

Abstract:A four-point interpolation subdivision scheme is a new interpolation method suggested in the mid-1980s. Because of its efficiency and convenience, the systems of curve and surface design based on the four-point scheme have been developed successfully in mechanics CAD, garment CAD and jewelry CAD, etc. In this paper, we discuss the convergence of four-point scheme in nonuniform control points and the error estimation.

Abstract:A class of convergent difference schemes with several parameters is proposed. According to the relationship between the subdivision scheme and its difference scheme and the sufficient condition for Ck continuity, we can devise curve subdivision schemes with arbitrary order continuity. By setting appropriate parameters, some classical curve subdivision schemes such as the Chaikin's scheme, the cubic B-spline scheme and 4-point interpolating scheme can be obtained. A C1-continuous asymmetric 3-point interpolating scheme is also presented to model asymmetric limit curves. Furthermore, the property of the linear combination of the difference schemes of the same order is analyzed, which can help to devise more convergent curve subdivision schemes with several parameters.

Abstract:A general formula for 4-point  -Ary approximating subdivision scheme for curve designing is introduced for any arity 2  .The new scheme is extension of B-spline of degree 6. Laurent polynomial method is used to investigate the continuity of the scheme.The variety of effects can be achieved in correspondence for different values of parameter.The applications of the proposed scheme are illustrated in comparison with the established subdivision schemes.

Abstract:Since subdivision schemes can generate curves and surfaces rapidly, they are widely used in the curve and surface modeling. Such topic is one of the important research fields in computer aided geometric design. The convexity preserving properties of the interpolating four-point ternary subdivision scheme are discussed in this paper. The conditions on the parameter of the scheme to preserve convexity are given. The parameter locates in the interval (115,19), thus the limit curve generated by the scheme is C^2.

Abstract:We present a semi-stationary loop subdivision scheme based on the extension of box-spline. We deduce the eigenvalues of 2-neighbors subdivision matrix of the scheme, and prove that the subdivision surface is convergent, and has property of tangent plane continuity. Compared with the conventional loop subdivision method, as the subdivision matrix can update regularly with the iteration procedure, ours has stronger capability of modeling.

Abstract:For practical applications, optimization algorithms may converge to the optimal solution unreasonably slowly because of factors such as the poor scaling, ill-conditioning, errors in calculation, and so on. Most improvements during the optimization procedure are made within a small part of the total computation time. To relieve the heavy computational burden, it is necessary to balance the calculation accuracy and computation cost. The traditional termination criteria based on the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions cannot appropriately meet this requirement. Convergence depth control (CDC) strategy for Reduced Hessian Successive Quadratic Programming (RSQP) was presented as an alternative measure in a previous study. This work incorporates interior point methods with the modified CDC strategy, which was tested through AMPL interface and Aspen Open Solvers interface. Related properties are proved. Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a modified Chebyshev-like's method with order four and study the semilocal convergence of the method by using majorizing functions for solving nonlinear equations in Banach spaces. We prove an existence-uniqueness theorem and give a priori error bounds which demonstrates the R-order of the method. Moveover, the local convergence of this method is also analyzed. Finally, numerical application on nonlinear integral equations is given to show our approach.

Abstract:The four-point interpolatory scheme and the cubic B-spline are examples of the most well-known stationary subdivision procedures. They are based on the space of cubic polynomials and have their respective strengths and weaknesses. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to introduce a new type of subdivision scheme that integrates the advantages of both the four-point and the cubic B-spline schemes. The proposed scheme achieves approximation order ‘four’ and an improved smoothness C 2 , while keeping the same support of the basic limit function as the four-point scheme. Moreover, under some mild conditions, the new scheme has the properties of monotonicity and convexity preservation. Whereas most high-order shape-preserving schemes are non-linear and rather computationally complicated, the proposed scheme is linear and stationary. Several numerical examples are provided to illustrate the efficiency of our subdivision algorithm.

Abstract:In conventional level set methods for topology optimization, the evolution of level set function is solved by upwind scheme and needs to be reinitialized frequently throughout the optimization. The upwind scheme is complicated in numerical implementation and the reinitialization is time-consuming and slows down the optimization efficiency. This paper presents a level set method updated with finite difference scheme for structural topology optimization. The velocity field used to update the level set function is interpolated by piecewise basis function in order to incorporate the universal mathematical programming algorithm into the optimization. The diffusion is introduced into the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and the three-step splitting method is adopted to solve the equation. By applying the proposed method, the evolution of the level set can be updated by simple central difference scheme and the procedure of reinitialization is avoided without sacrificing the numerical stability. The classical mean compliance minimization problem with several numerical examples is used to test the validity of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper we present some substantial modifications and improvements for some derivative-free iterative formulae. We propose some new methods which are convergent iterative formulae of order 1 + root 2 approximate to 2.414 with only two evaluations of f per step. Thus the new methods enjoy the efficiency index root(1 + root 2) approximate to 1.554. Especially, a new method of self-accelerating regula falsi type with global convergence for finding a simple root p of a nonlinear equation f(x) = 0 in the interval [a, b] is offered in this paper. The new method of self-accelerating regula falsi type is shown to be convergent with order 1 + root 2 approximate to 2.414 for both the sequences of diameters {(b(n) - a(n))} and the iterative points {x(n)}. The new method has been tested on a series of published examples. The numerical results demonstrate that the new method is more effective. Furthermore, we introduce a derivative-free transformation for multiple zeros and consider its error analysis and then demonstrate its superiority by comparing it with the traditional ones. Abstract:On the basis of Wang's method, a new fourth-order method for finding a zero of a derivative was presented. Under the hypotheses that the third and fourth order derivatives of nonlinear function were bounded, the local convergence of a new fourth-order method was studied. The error estimate, the order of convergence, and uniqueness of the solution were also discussed. In particular, Herzberger's matrix method was used to obtain the convergence order of the new method to four. By comparing the new method with Wang's method and the same order method, numerical illustrations showed that the new method has a higher order of convergence and accuracy.

Abstract:In this paper, we further study free-derivative iteration method. Al-though in a recent paper[1] we presented a free-derivative iteration method withconvergence of both point and interval diameter sequences, the asymptotic con-vergence rate is of order two with two function evaluations per step. It turns outthat the asymptotic rate of this iteration procedure can be improved after somemodifications without any additional function evaluations. We show that theasymptotic convergence rate of the revised iteration version is of order 1+/2.

Abstract:In this paper we proposed a so-called coupled 4-point difference scheme for Laplacian operator over hexagon partition. It is shown that the scheme has the same order accuracy to the usual 7-point scheme in 3-direction mesh and 5-point scheme in rectangle mesh, though the local truncation error only has first order accuracy. Several hexagonal finite elements, such as piecewise quadratic and cubic, rational functions, are also investigated. Some numerical tests are given.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop a novel higher-order compact finite difference scheme for solving systems of Lane-Emden-Fowler type equations. Our method can handle these problems without needing to remove or modify the singularity. To construct the method, initially, we create a uniform mesh within the solution domain and develop a new efficient compact difference scheme. The presented method approximates the derivatives at the boundary nodal points to effectively handle the singularity. Using a matrix analysis approach, we discuss theoretical issues such as consistency, stability, and convergence. The theoretical order of the method is consistent with the numerical convergence rates. To showcase the method's effectiveness, we apply it to solve various real-life problems from the literature and compare its performance with existing methods. The proposed method provides better numerical approximations than existing methods and offers high-order accuracy using fewer grid points.

Abstract:This paper introduces a new formula to evaluate the deviation of a binary interpolatory subdivision curve from its data polygon. We first bound the deviation of the new control points of each subdivision step from its data polygon by accumulating the distances between the new control points and the midpoints of their corresponding edges. Then, by finding the maximum deviation of each subdivision step, a formula for estimating the deviation of the limit curve from its data polygon can be deduced. As the applications of the formula, we evaluate the deviations of the uniform, centripetal and chord parametrization four-point interpolatory subdivision scheme, and find that the bounds derived by our method are sharper than bounds by [3]. Of course, we also deduce the new deviations of the six-point interpolatory subdivision scheme, Dyn et al’s four- and six-point subdivision schemes with tension parameters, and Deslauriers–Dubucs eight- and ten-point subdivision schemes.
Convergence ball of a new fourth-order method for finding a zero of the derivative

Abstract:There are numerous applications for finding zero of derivatives in function optimization. In this paper, a two-step fourth-order method was presented for finding a zero of the derivative. In the research process of iterative methods, determining the ball of convergence was one of the important issues. This paper discussed the radii of the convergence ball, uniqueness of the solution, and the measurable error distances. In particular, in contrast to Wang's method under hypotheses up to the fourth derivative, the local convergence of the new method was only analyzed under hypotheses up to the second derivative, and the convergence order of the new method was increased to four. Furthermore, different radii of the convergence ball was determined according to different weaker hypotheses. Finally, the convergence criteria was verified by three numerical examples and the new method was compared with Wang's method and the same order method by numerical experiments. The experimental results showed that the convergence order of the new method is four and the new method has higher accuracy at the same cost, so the new method is finer.

Abstract:The present work aims to introduce a novel numerical method for solving second-order two-point mixed boundary value problems. Mixed boundary value problems occur in various scientific fields, including quantum mechanics, fluid dynamics, and chemical reactor theory. The proposed method provides a highly accurate, fourth-order convergent numerical solution, achieved by implementing a compact finite difference method based on non-polynomial spline in tension approximations. Notably, the discretisation involves the use of half-step grid points, eliminating the need to modify the method at singularities while dealing with singular boundary value problems. The article also includes a comprehensive convergence analysis that demonstrates the theoretical order of convergence of the method. Additionally, the results obtained from solving six diverse mixed boundary value problems, including Burger's equation and Bratu-type equation, are compared to showcase the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method.
