Abstract:Let SCC3(G) be the length of a shortest 3-cycle cover of a bridgeless cubic graph G. It is proved in this note that if G contains no circuit of length 5 (an improvement of Jackson's (JCTB 1994) result: if G has girth at least 7) and if all 5-circuits of G are disjoint (a new upper bound of SCC3(G) for the special class of graphs).

Abstract:Let G be a bridgeless graph with m edges and n vertices. It is proved that the edges of G can be covered by circuits whose total length is at most $m + ( r/r - 1 )( n - 1 )$, where r is the minimum length of an even circuit (of G) of length at least 6 ($r = \infty $, if there is no such circuit). The proof suggests a polynomial-time algorithm for constructing such a cover.

Abstract:Assume $G$ is a bridgeless graph. A cycle cover of $G$ is a collection of cycles of $G$ such that each edge of $G$ is contained in at least one of the cycles. The length of a cycle cover of $G$ is the sum of the lengths of the cycles in the cover. The minimum length of a cycle cover of $G$ is denoted by $cc(G)$. It was proved independently by Alon and Tarsi and by Bermond, Jackson, and Jaeger that $cc(G)\le \frac{5}{3}m$ for every bridgeless graph $G$ with $m$ edges. This remained the best-known upper bound for $cc(G)$ for 40 years. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is a bridgeless graph with $m$ edges and $n_2$ vertices of degree $2$, then $cc(G) < \frac{29}{18}m+ \frac 1{18}n_2$. As a consequence, we show that $cc(G) \le \frac 53 m - \frac 1{42} \log m$. The upper bound $ cc(G) < \frac{29}{18}m \approx 1.6111 m$ for bridgeless graphs $G$ of minimum degree at least 3 improves the previous known upper bound $1.6258m$. A key lemma used in the proof confirms Fan's conjecture that if $C$ is a circuit of $G$ and $G/C$ admits a nowhere zero 4-flow, then $G$ admits a 4-flow $f$ such that $E(G)-E(C)\subseteq \text{supp} (f)$ and $|\textrm{supp}(f)\cap E(C)|>\frac{3}{4}|E(C)|$.

Abstract:It was conjectured by Fulkerson that the edge-set of any bridgeless graph can be covered by six cycles (union of circuits) such that each edge is in exactly four cycles. We prove that if Fulkerson′s conjecture is true, then the edge-set of every bridgeless graph G can be covered by three cycles whose total length is at most 22 15 | E ( G )|. We also prove that there are infinitely many bridgeless graphs G whose edge-set cannot be covered by three cycles of total length less than 22 15 | E ( G )|.

Abstract:Let G be a bridgeless graph and C be a circuit in G. To find a shorter circuit cover of G, Fan proposed a conjecture that if G/C admits a nowhere-zero 4-flow, then G admits a 4-flow (D, f) such that E(G) E(C) ⊆ supp(f) and $$\left| {{\rm{supp}}\left( f \right) \cap E\left( C \right)} \right| > {3 \over 4}\left| {E\left( C \right)} \right|$$ , and showed that the conjecture holds if ∣E(C)∣≤ 19 [Combinatorica, 37, 1097–1112 (2017)]. In this paper, we prove that the conjecture holds if ∣E(C)∣≤ 27.

Abstract:The 5-even subgraph cycle double cover conjecture (5-CDC conjecture) asserts that every bridgeless graph has a 5-even subgraph double cover. A shortest even subgraph cover of a graph G $G$ is a family of even subgraphs which cover all the edges of G $G$ and the sum of their lengths is minimum. It is conjectured that every bridgeless graph G $G$ has an even subgraph cover with total length at most 21 15 divided by E ( G ) divided by $\frac{21}{15}| E(G)| $. In this paper, we study those two conjectures for weak oddness 2 cubic graphs and present a sufficient condition for such graphs to have a 5-CDC containing a member with many vertices. As a corollary, we show that for every oddness 2 cubic graph G $G$ satisfying the sufficient condition has a 4-even subgraph ( 1 , 2 ) $(1,2)$-cover with total length at most 20 15 divided by E ( G ) divided by + 2 $\frac{20}{15}| E(G)| +2$. We also show that every oddness 2 cubic graph G $G$ with girth at least 30 has a 5-CDC containing a member of length at least 9 10 divided by V ( G ) divided by $\frac{9}{10}| V(G)| $ and thus it has a 4-even subgraph ( 1 , 2 ) $(1,2)$-cover with total length at most 21 15 divided by E ( G ) divided by $\frac{21}{15}| E(G)| $.

Abstract:In this paper we prove: (i) If a graph G has a nowhere-zero 6-flow φ such that | Eodd (φ)| ≥ 23 |E(G)|, then G has a cycle cover in which the sum of the lengths of the cycles in the cycle cover is at most 4427 |E(G)|, where Eodd (φ) = {e ∈ E(G) : is odd}; (ii) if Tutte′s 3-Flow Conjecture is true, then every bridgeless graph G has a nowhere-zero 6-flow φ such that | Eodd (φ)| ≥ 23 | E(G)|.
Counting Circuit Double Covers

Abstract:We study a counting version of Cycle Double Cover Conjecture. We discuss why it is more interesting to count circuits (i.e., graphs isomorphic to $C_k$ for some $k$) instead of cycles (graphs with all degrees even). We give an almost-exponential lower-bound for graphs with a surface embedding of representativity at least 4. We also prove an exponential lower-bound for planar graphs. We conjecture that any bridgeless cubic graph has at least $2^{n/2-1}$ circuit double covers and we show an infinite class of graphs for which this bound is tight.

Abstract:Given a bridgeless graph $G$, the Cycle Double Cover Conjecture posits that there is a list of cycles of $G$, such that every edge appears in exactly two cycles on the list. This conjecture was originally posed independently in 1973 by Szekeres and 1979 by Seymour. In 1985, Jaeger demonstrated that it is sufficient to prove in the case that $G$ is a cubic graph. We here present a proof that every bridgeless cubic graph has a cycle double cover by analyzing certain kinds of cycles in the line graph of $G$. Further, in the case that $G$ is cubic, we prove the stronger conjecture that given a bridgeless graph $G$ and a cycle $C$ in $G$, then there exists a cycle double cover of $G$ containing $C$.

Abstract:In 1985, Alon and Tarsi conjectured that the length of a shortest cycle cover of a bridgeless graph H is at most 7/5 |E(H|). The conjecture is still open. Let G be a 2-edge-connected graph embedded with face-width k on the non-spherical orientable surface S g . We give an upper bound on the length of a cycle cover of G. In particular, if g = 1 and k ≥ 48, or g = 2 and k ≥ 427, or g ≥ 3 and k ≥ 288(4 g - 1), then the upper bound is 7/5 |E(G|), which means that Alon and Tarsi’s conjecture holds for such a graph.

Abstract:By using the so-defined circuit/path transformations together with an edge-switching method, the following conjectures are proved in this paper. (i) The edges of a connected graph on n vertices can be covered by at most ⌈ n 2 ⌉ paths, which was conjectured by Chung. (ii) The edges of a 2-connected graph on n vertices can be covered by at most ⌊ 2 n −1 3 ⌋ circuits, which was conjectured by Bondy. An immediate consequence of (ii) is a theorem of Pyber that the edges of a graph on n vertices can be covered by at most n −1 edges and circuits, which was conjectured by Erdös, Goodman, and Pósa. Integer Flows and Cycle Covers

Abstract:Results related to integer flows and cycle covers are presented. A cycle cover of a graph G is a collection C of cycles of G which covers all edges of G; C is called a cycle m-cover of G if each edge of G is covered exactly m times by the members of C. By using Seymour's nowhere-zero 6-flow theorem, we prove that every bridgeless graph has a cycle 6-cover associated to covering of the edges by 10 even subgraphs (an even graph is one in which each vertex is of even degree). This result together with the cycle 4-cover theorem implies that every bridgeless graph has a cycle m-cover for any even number m ≥ 4. We also prove that every graph with a nowhere-zero 4-flow has a cycle cover C such that the sum of lengths of the cycles in C is at most |E(G)| + |V(G)| − 2, unless G belongs to a very special class of graphs.

Abstract:Let G be a signed graph and F a set of signed circuits in G. For an edge e∈E(G), F(e) denotes the number of signed circuits in F that contain e. F is called a circuit-cover of G if F(e)>0 for each e∈E(G), and a circuit k-cover of G if F(e)=k for each e∈E(G). G is coverable if it has a circuit-cover. The existence of a circuit-cover in G is equivalent to the existence of a nowhere-zero flow in G. For a coverable signed graph G, it is proved in this paper that if each maximal 2-edge-connected subgraph of G is eulerian, then G has a circuit 6-cover, consisting of four circuit-covers of G, and as an immediate consequence, G has a circuit-cover of length at most 32|E(G)|, generalizing a known result on signed eulerian graphs. New results on circuit k-covers are obtained and applied to estimating bounds on the lengths of shortest circuit-covers of signed graphs.

Abstract:A perfect matching cover of a graph $G$ is a set of perfect matchings of $G$ such that each edge of $G$ is contained in at least one member of it. Berge conjectured that every bridgeless cubic graph has a perfect matching cover of order at most 5. The Berge Conjecture is largely open and it is even unknown whether a constant integer $c$ does exist such that every bridgeless cubic graph has a perfect matching cover of order at most $c$. In this paper, we show that a bridgeless cubic graph $G$ has a perfect matching cover of order at most 11 if $G$ has a 2-factor in which the number of odd circuits is 2.

Abstract:We conjectured in [H. Wang, Australas. J. Combin.. 19 (1999), pp, 115-121] that, for each integer k greater than or equal to 2, there exists N(k) such that if G = (V-1, V-2; E) is a bipartite graph with \V-1\ = \V-2\ = n greater than or equal to N(k) and d(x) + d(y) greater than or equal to n + k for each pair of nonadjacent vertices x and y of G with x is an element of V-1 and y is an element of V-2. then for any k independent edges e(1),...,e(k) of G, there exist k vertex-disjoint cycles C-1,...,C-k in G such that e(i) is an element of E(C-i) for all i is an element of {1,...,k} and V(C(1)boolean OR ... boolean ORCk) = V(G). This conjecture is also verified for k = 2 in [H. Wang, Australas. J. Combin., 19 (1999), pp. 115-121]. We prove this conjecture for k = 3 in this paper.

Abstract:An equivalent statement of the circuit double cover conjecture is that every bridgeless graph G has a circuit cover such that each vertex v of G is contained in at most d(v) circuits of the cover, where d(v) is the degree of v. Pyber conjectured that every bridgeless graph G has a circuit cover such that every vertex of G is contained in at most Δ(G) circuits of the cover, where Δ(G) is the maximum degree of G. This paper affirms Pyber′s conjecture by establishing an intermediate result, namely that every bridgeless graph G has a circuit cover such that each vertex v of G is contained in at most d(v) circuits of the cover if d(v) ≥ 3 and in at most three circuits of the cover if d(v) = 2. Our proofs rely on results on integer flows.
