Abstract:
Coal and gas outburst is a type of natural disaster that occurs frequently during underground coal mining and leads to massive casualties and economic losses. In order to provide a reference for predicting the outburst-proneness using the temperature variation of the heading face as an indicator, the temperature variation of the coal and rock near the heading face was investigated using a thermo-hydro-mechanical model, which considers the heating effect of gas desorption, expansion, and thermal stress. Results show that temperature variation near the heading face is significantly influenced by the initial gas pressure of the coal seam, the formation temperature, the ventilation airflow temperature, the stress field, and the time of coalface exposure. The temperature around the coalface can be divided into three zones, that is, the airflow affected zone, the temperature reduction zone, and the initial formation temperature zone. The temperature reduction in the second zone is primarily caused by gas adsorption and expansion in the coal and is affected by the initial gas pressure and the time of coalface exposure. The temperature difference (ΔT) between the coal wall and the rock wall can be used to determine how prone a heading face is to coal and gas outbursts. The critical value of ΔT for the prediction will be different at different measurement moments. The earlier the measurements are taken, the larger the critical value of ΔT will be.
