Abstract:Herein, we demonstrate the charge transport properties of transparent glasses with a composition, (70-x) B 2 O 3 –15TeO 2 –15Na 2 O–xFe 2 O 3 , where x = 0, 0.5,1.0 and 2.0%, prepared by the classical-melt quench method. Systematic studies such as XRD and conductivity were performed to evaluate their amorphous nature and charge transport characteristics. The XRD results indicate that the prepared glasses exhibit an amorphous nature. It was observed that the prepared glasses exhibit conductivity (charge transport) behaviour in the range of 423 to 573 K within the frequency range of 40 Hz to 10 MHz. Initially, the frequency response was found to be higher for samples at higher concentrations. Furthermore, the examination for different concentrations was studied at 573 K, and it is interesting to note that as the concentration of Fe 2 O 3 increases, the charge transport properties increase in this glass system. The estimated power law exponent 's' and stretched exponent 'β' have shown that the charge transport mechanism of the prepared glasses is not restricted to ionic conductivity, instead enabling samples to exhibit a mixed conductivity effect. The transport phenomena show the electronic and ionic conductivity due to Fe 2 O 3 and Na + ions in the glasses, which subsequently occurs due to Mott's smaller polaron hopping (SPH) mechanism.
