Abstract:This article considers how to advance Indigenous education in counselling and clinical psychology in Canada, particularly at the intersection of curriculum, programmatic, and systemic shifts in graduate education. This article focuses on the curricular practices that the counselling and clinical psychology field could enact in efforts to advance reconciliation, reduce educational and mental health disparities that exist among Indigenous peoples in Canada, and strengthen Indigenous education in the field. To do this, the authors present a literature review on the status of Indigenous education research in counselling and clinical psychology and related fields in Canada and in similar international contexts. Centering analysis on the concept of Indigenization, a project concerned with infusing mainstream courses with content and pedagogical processes which speak to some experiences and concerns of Indigenous people, the authors present a framework for targeted changes in graduate curriculum. This framework organizes around the primary curricular domains of professional psychology, as well as some emerging domains of relevance for the fields of counselling and clinical psychology. The authors provide examples of Indigenous-specific psychological curricula and resources for Indigenization within psychology curriculum. Finally, the authors discuss the challenges and opportunities that Indigenization efforts in advanced psychological education present currently, as well as consider the role of self-determination in the future of Indigenous psychological education. Cet article examine comment faire progresser l’éducation autochtone en counseling et en psychologie clinique au Canada, en particulier à l’intersection des programmes d’études, des programmes et des changements systémiques dans l’enseignement supérieur. Cet article se concentre sur les pratiques curriculaires que les domaines du counseling et de la psychologie clinique pourraient adopter dans le but de faire progresser la réconciliation, de réduire les disparités en matière d’éducation et de santé mentale qui existent parmi les peuples autochtones au Canada, et de renforcer l’éducation autochtone dans ces domaines. Pour ce faire, les auteurs présentent une analyse documentaire sur l’état de la recherche sur l’éducation autochtone en counseling et en psychologie clinique et dans les domaines connexes au Canada et dans des contextes internationaux similaires. Centrant l’analyse sur le concept de l’autochtonisation, un projet visant à insuffler aux cours traditionnels un contenu et des processus pédagogiques qui correspondent à certaines expériences et préoccupations des peuples autochtones, les auteurs présentent un cadre pour des changements ciblés dans les programmes d’études supérieures. Ce cadre s’organise autour des principaux domaines d’enseignement de la psychologie professionnelle, ainsi que de certains domaines émergents pertinents pour les domaines du counseling et de la psychologie clinique. Les auteurs fournissent des exemples de programmes d’études psychologiques spécifiques aux autochtones et des ressources pour l’autochtonisation au sein des programmes d’études en psychologie. Enfin, les auteurs discutent des défis et des opportunités que présentent actuellement les efforts d’autochtonisation dans l’enseignement supérieur de la psychologie, et considèrent le rôle de l’autodétermination dans l’avenir de l’enseignement de la psychologie autochtone.
