Abstract:Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a highly contagious disease caused by the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). In China, it is a priority animal disease for control and eradication, However, the data on disease frequency in intensive pig farms and the information on associated risk factors is inadequate. The aim of this was to explore the epidemiology data and the factors leading to the susceptibility of pig farms to PRRS in Hubei province, China. 6,266 anticoagulant blood samples were randomly collected by epidemiological multi-stage random sampling method according to the epidemiological formula. The prevalence of PRRSV in samples was detected by RT-PCR. The results of PRRSV prevalence were used as the basis for screening PRRSV positive farms and negative farms. The correlation between risk factors of PRRSV infection in positive pig farms and uninfected negative pig farms was compared, so as to identify risk points. The results showed that the positive rate of PRRSV was 33.09% (95% CI: 25.7%~36.7%), and the prevalence rate of individual was 5.51% (95% CI: 4.1%~5.6%). According to the results of epidemiological investigation, the differences between positive pig farms and negative pig farms were compared. It was found that "no introduction isolation house" (χ 2 =4.4 OR=3.5, 95% CI:1.2~10.3) and" classical swine fever occurred in the past 2 years "(χ 2 =4.5, OR=4.0, 95% CI:1.2~12.6) were significantly related to the high prevalence of PRRSV. The risk factors determined in this study can provide theoretical reference for the prevention and control of PRRS and the eradication of other epidemic diseases in Hubei Province.
