Abstract:Eosinophil Extracellular Traps (EETs) are extracellular structures composed of DNA and cellular contents released by highly activated eosinophils. These traps have gained considerable attention in immunology due to their role in eosinophilic disorders. Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA), a systemic vasculitis associated with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA), presents a complex pathology involving increased eosinophils, significant infiltration in organs, and necrotizing granulomatous inflammation in blood vessels. Notably, the formation of EETs is often observed in conjunction with these pathological changes, prompting further investigation into their role in EGPA. In addition, past proteomic studies comparing EETs with Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) have identified specific proteins associated with both. Recent research has initiated exploration into the specific proteins linked with EETs. Comparative analysis between EETs and NETs offers new perspectives for understanding their structural and functional aspects, paving the way for exploring the specificity of trapping networks in various immune cells. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of EETs, laying a solid foundation for subsequent research endeavors.
