Abstract:In this study, Marin-Valencia et al. show that elevated glucose uptake and glycolysis in the PDH-deficient (PDHD) brain in vivo are indicators of disease progression. Propionate is a key anaplerotic substrate in this condition, and its supplementation with a ketogenic diet prolongs lifespan and improves neurological outcomes in PDHD mice.
