Abstract:Chromonatural inflation is a model where non-Abelian gauge fields are sustained by the coupling of the axion with the gauge field through the Chern-Simons term, while minimal warm inflation is a model where the axion produces a thermal bath of non-Abelian gauge particles through the Chern-Simons term. Since both axion inflation models are based on the same action, a natural question is if they are compatible or not. We study axion inflation with the Chern-Simons term and find that chromonatural inflation can accommodate radiation with a temperature much larger than the Hubble parameter during inflation, which is a characteristic feature of warm inflation. Thus, we conclude that chromonatural warm inflation exists, which must have phenomenologically interesting consequences. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.109.123504 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore whether Chromonatural Warm Inflation exists and its characteristics. Specifically, the paper combines the Chromonatural Inflation and Minimal Warm Inflation models to study whether they can occur simultaneously. Both of these models are based on the same Lagrangian and couple the axion with the non - Abelian gauge field through the Chern - Simons term. The main research contents include:
1. **Compatibility between Chromonatural Inflation and Warm Inflation**:
- In the Chromonatural Inflation model, the non - Abelian gauge field is coupled with the axion through the Chern - Simons term to achieve slow - roll inflation.
- In the Minimal Warm Inflation model, the axion generates a thermal bath through the Chern - Simons term, resulting in the production of gauge particles, thereby introducing a friction term in axion dynamics to achieve slow - roll inflation.
2. **Existence of Chromonatural Warm Inflation**:
- The paper studies the behavior of Chromonatural Inflation under different dissipation rates by analytical and numerical methods, especially whether Chromonatural Inflation will transform into Warm Inflation when the dissipation rate increases.
- The results show that within a certain parameter range (for example, \(1 < \kappa < 10^7\)), Chromonatural Warm Inflation does exist, and one of its characteristics is that the temperature \(T\) can be much larger than the Hubble parameter \(H\), which is a typical feature of Warm Inflation.
3. **Verification of the Theoretical Model**:
- The paper verifies the feasibility of Chromonatural Warm Inflation through analytical derivation and numerical simulation, especially the evolution behavior of the system under different dissipation rates.
- The research finds that as the dissipation rate \(\kappa\) increases, the system gradually transitions from Chromonatural Inflation to Warm Inflation, and finally enters the cold inflation stage when \(\kappa > 10^{22}\).
4. **Physical Significance**:
- The paper points out that the existence of Chromonatural Warm Inflation has important physical significance, especially for the prediction of primordial gravitational waves. Chromonatural Inflation usually predicts an excess of primordial gravitational waves, while Warm Inflation is difficult to produce detectable primordial gravitational waves. Therefore, Chromonatural Warm Inflation may provide a new mechanism to explain these observational phenomena.
In summary, the main objective of this paper is to verify through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation whether Chromonatural Inflation and Warm Inflation can co - exist and to explore the physical characteristics and possible observational consequences of this co - existence state.
