Abstract:This study employs the sol-gel combustion method to load Fe and V onto activated carbon particles to obtain the Fe/V@C catalyst, which is then used for the activation of persulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline. The results show that the degradation of tetracycline in the Fe/V@C/PMS system fits the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and there is a significant synergistic effect among •OH, SO 4 •- , O 2 •- and 1 O 2 . The synergistic action of the reactive species enables the reaction to achieve over 96.94 % degradation of tetracycline within a wide pH range (3 to 11), in the presence of different concentrations of anions (Cl − , HCO 3 − , and NO 3 − ), as well as humic acid (HA). The XPS analysis revealed that Fe (II), V(III), and V(IV) ions constitute the primary active sites within the catalytic framework. Free radical quenching experiments and electron spin resonance spectroscopy have proven that O 2 •- acts as a bridge mediating the transformation and synergistic action between active substances, and further revealed the transformation relationship between •OH, SO 4 •- , O 2 •- and 1 O 2 . The intermediates of TC degradation were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and the degradation pathways of TC were analyzed.
