Abstract:The utilization of waste biomass-derived producer gas in dual-fuel engines has attracted a lot of interest as a sustainable energy option that encourages waste reduction as well as cleaner energy production. This research proposed a glass-box modeling strategy that combined the robust Huber and Tweedie regression approaches with SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) analysis to estimate the performance and emissions of the test engine. The research demonstrated robustness over heteroscedasticity by using Huber and Tweedie regression methods, which are critical factors in real-world engine functioning. The Huber method consistently outscored both the LR and Tweedie-based prediction models in a comparison of prediction techniques for various parameters. Huber obtained remarkably high R 2 values as 0.941 to 0.984, in addition to quite low root mean squared error. SHAP analysis helped in revealing the degree and direction of individual features' effect on the model. The engine load was observed to be having the most profound effect on the final model output. This study contributed to the development of waste biomass utilization in dual-fuel engines by providing a reliable prognostic tool for developing and running such systems in sustainable practices.
