What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper mainly discusses the role of 14-3-3β protein in acute asthma attacks in children and the risk factors for asthma exacerbation. The study found that the serum level of 14-3-3β in children with acute asthma was significantly higher than that in stable asthma and healthy control groups, and the level of 14-3-3β also increased with the severity of asthma. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the levels of 14-3-3β, FeNO (fraction of exhaled nitric oxide), co-infection, and FEV1 (forced expiratory volume in one second) were independent risk factors for exacerbation of acute asthma in children. According to the ROC curve, the optimal threshold for 14-3-3β was 39.79 ng/mL, with high sensitivity and specificity for predicting acute asthma attacks. In addition, the study also mentioned that there was no significant association between allergy history, white blood cell count, eosinophil percentage, and exacerbation of acute asthma. This study provides new biomarkers and risk factors for identifying and preventing acute asthma attacks in children.
