Abstract:This paper further studies the fuzzy rough sets based on fuzzy coverings. We first present the notions of the lower and upper approximation operators based on fuzzy coverings and derive their basic properties. To facilitate the computation of fuzzy coverings for fuzzy covering rough sets, the concepts of fuzzy subcoverings, the reducible and intersectional elements, the union and intersection operations are provided and their properties are discussed in detail. Afterwards, we introduce the concepts of consistent functions and fuzzy covering mappings and provide a basic theoretical foundation for the communication between fuzzy covering information systems. In addition, the notion of homomorphisms is proposed to reveal the relationship between fuzzy covering information systems. We show how large-scale fuzzy covering information systems and dynamic fuzzy covering information systems can be converted into small-scale ones by means of homomorphisms. Finally, an illustrative example is employed to show that the attribute reduction can be simplified significantly by our proposed approach.

Abstract:In the application fields of Fuzzy numbers, we need to compare their differences as a whole; therefore, it is essential to establish a target about global measure of fuzzy numbers. In this paper.based on a stage (A.B) at which the interval A is less-than the interval B,we establish a new type of global measure of less-than relation to fuzzy numbers with the aid of a A~cutsets of fuzzy sets and lebesgue integral,discuss some of their basic properties,and make necessary preparations for further discussing the order structure of fuzzy numbers.

Abstract:Intuitionistic fuzzy sets, characterized by membership degree μ , non-membership degree υ and hesitation degree π , are a meaningful extension of fuzzy set. Inequalities on intuitionistic fuzzy sets/values are very important in solving real problems. In this paper, some inequalities on intuitionistic fuzzy sets are derived from operations. Moreover, three unweighted intuitionistic fuzzy aggregation operators, including unweighted intuitionistic fuzzy Square, unweighted intuitionistic fuzzy Arithmetic and unweighted intuitionistic fuzzy Geometric, are developed. Later, some corresponding inequality relations on them are deeply explored. Finally, some inequalities on intuitionistic fuzzy value are constructed by equality μ +υ +π =1 in critical definition and proved by some existing famous inequalities, which provide a novel basis for the intuitionistic fuzzy inequalities in operations and aggregation operators.

Abstract:Existing studies on the granular structures of fuzzy rough sets are mainly proposed based on the T-similarity relations which are only a special kind of fuzzy relations. Therefore, it is of interest to extend the study to more general situations in order to expand the application scope of the fuzzy rough set theory. In this paper, the granular structures of the S-lower, T-upper, #-lower and crupper approximations of the fuzzy sets are established based on more general fuzzy relations.

Abstract:Soft set theory serves as a mathematical framework for handling uncertain information, and hesitant fuzzy sets find extensive application in scenarios involving uncertainty and hesitation. Hesitant fuzzy sets exhibit diverse membership degrees, giving rise to various forms of inclusion relationships among them. This article introduces the notions of hesitant fuzzy soft $\beta$-coverings and hesitant fuzzy soft $\beta$-neighborhoods, which are formulated based on distinct forms of inclusion relationships among hesitancy fuzzy sets. Subsequently, several associated properties are investigated. Additionally, specific variations of hesitant fuzzy soft $\beta$-coverings are introduced by incorporating hesitant fuzzy rough sets, followed by an exploration of properties pertaining to hesitant fuzzy soft $\beta$-covering approximation spaces.

Abstract:The structure and characteristic of fuzzy subsets are discussed by using the concepts of granulation and hierarchy in quotient space theory. First, the equivalence relation based quotient space theory is extended to the fuzzy tolerance relation. Second, the isomorphism and its discriminant of fuzzy tolerance relations are discussed. Finally, by using the fuzzy tolerance relation to define the fuzzy subset, its properties are addressed. The main results are given below: (1) several equivalent statements of fuzzy tolerance relations; (2) the definition of isomorphism of fuzzy tolerance relations; (3) the isomorphic discriminant of fuzzy tolerance relations; (4) the definition and properties of fuzzy subsets based on the fuzzy tolerance relations; and (5) the necessary and sufficient condition of the isomorphism of fuzzy subsets. These results will help us further comprehend the concepts of fuzzy tolerance relations and fuzzy subsets.

Abstract:Typical hesitant fuzzy set is a kind of generalization of classical fuzzy set by possessing a membership degree, called as typical hesitant fuzzy element, of finite non-empty subset of the unitary interval. This paper studies the constructive approach to rough set approximation operators in typical hesitant fuzzy background. Firstly, two novel partial orders are introduced to compare two arbitrary typical hesitant fuzzy elements and typical hesitant fuzzy sets, meanwhile, the basic operations, including intersection, union and alpha-level sets of typical hesitant fuzzy sets are then proposed and their properties are studied in detail. Secondly, typical hesitant fuzzy rough sets are introduced and studied via the new operations of intersection and union. Furthermore, typical hesitant fuzzy rough approximation operators are represented by the rough approximation operators of the alpha-level set of typical hesitant fuzzy set. Finally, the connections between typical hesitant fuzzy (and crisp, respectively) relations and typical hesitant fuzzy rough (and rough typical hesitant fuzzy, respectively) approximation operators are further established.

Abstract:Covering generalized rough set theory is an important extension of classical rough set theory. To characterize a fuzzy set in a given covering approximation space, a pair of fuzzy sets, called covering rough fuzzy lower and upper approximations, were introduced, but they do not describe well how much uncertainty is induced by the granularity of knowledge. In this paper, we first discuss the relationship between uncertainty and granularity of knowledge. Then we examine several commonly used distance measures, and indicate that some of them exhibit some limitations. Next we propose a roughness measure based on Minkowski distance, and examine some important properties of this measure. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the application of the roughness measure to incomplete information systems with fuzzy decision.

Abstract:Relations and relation matrices are important concepts in set theory and intelligent computation. Some general uncertainty measures for fuzzy relations are proposed by generalizing Shannon's information entropy. Then, the proposed measures are used to calculate the diversity quantity of multiple classifier systems and the granularity of granulated problem spaces, respectively. As a diversity measure, it is shown that the fusion system whose classifiers are of little similarity produces a great uncertainty quantity, which means that much complementary information is achieved with a diverse multiple classifier system. In granular computing, a “coarse–fine” order is introduced for a family of problem spaces with the proposed granularity measures. The problem space that is finely granulated will get a great uncertainty quantity compared with the coarse problem space. Based on the observation, we employ the proposed measure to evaluate the significance of numerical attributes for classification. Each numerical attribute generates a fuzzy similarity relation over the sample space. We compute the condition entropy of a numerical attribute or a set of numerical attribute relative to the decision, where the greater the condition entropy is, the less important the attribute subset is. A forward greedy search algorithm for numerical feature selection is constructed with the proposed measure. Experimental results show that the proposed method presents an efficient and effective solution for numerical feature analysis.

Abstract:Formal concept analysis and rough set theory are two important tools in knowledge representation and knowledge discovery in relational information systems. The purpose of this paper is to study rough set approximations within formal concept analysis in fuzzy environment. Properties of existent fuzzy concept lattices derived from an adjoint pair of operations are first reviewed and examined. Based on both lattice-theoretic and fuzzy set-theoretic operators, two new pairs of rough fuzzy set approximations within fuzzy formal contexts are then defined. Finally, properties of the rough fuzzy set approximation operators are presented in detail.

Abstract:There are some drawbacks to arithmetic and logic operations of general discrete fuzzy numbers, which limit their application. For example, the result of the addition operation of general discrete fuzzy numbers defined by the Zadeh's extension principle may not satisfy the condition of becoming a discrete fuzzy number. In order to solve these problems, special discrete fuzzy numbers on countable sets are investigated in this paper. Since the representation theorem of fuzzy numbers is the basic tool of fuzzy analysis, two kinds of representation theorems of special discrete fuzzy numbers on countable sets are studied first. Then, the metrics of special discrete fuzzy numbers on countable sets are defined, and the relationship between these metrics and the uniform Hausdorff metric (i.e., supremum metric) of general fuzzy numbers is discussed. In addition, the triangular norm and triangular conorm operations (t-norm and t-conorm for short) of special discrete fuzzy numbers on countable sets are presented, and the properties of these two operators are proven. We also prove that these two operators satisfy the basic conditions for closure of operation and present some examples. Finally, the applications of special discrete fuzzy numbers on countable sets in image fusion and aggregation of subjective evaluation are proposed.

Abstract:In rough set theory, the lower and upper approximation operators can be constructed via a variety of approaches. Various fuzzy generalizations of rough approximation operators have been made over the years. This paper presents a framework for the study of rough fuzzy sets on two universes of discourse. By means of a binary relation between two universes of discourse, a covering and three relations are induced to a single universe of discourse. Based on the induced notions, four pairs of rough fuzzy approximation operators are proposed. These models guarantee that the approximating sets and the approximated sets are on the same universes of discourse. Furthermore, the relationship between the new approximation operators and the existing rough fuzzy approximation operators on two universes of discourse are scrutinized, and some interesting properties are investigated. Finally, the connections of these approximation operators are made, and conditions under which some of these approximation operators are equivalent are obtained.

Abstract:Rough set theory has been considered as a useful mean to model the vagueness and has been applied successfully in many fields. And every rough set is associated with some amount of fuzziness. Some measure of fuzziness in rough sets has been provided. On the other hand, rough set theory has been generalized with coverings instead of classical partition. So it is necessary to consider the amount of fuzziness in covering generalized rough sets. The main aim of the paper is to study the problem. A measure of fuzziness in covering generalized rough sets is proposed in this paper. Moreover, some characterization and properties of this measure are achieved with examples, which is every useful for next research works in covering generalized rough sets.

Abstract:This paper presents a new method of approximating fuzzy decision concepts by using fuzzy condition concepts. The rough approximation of fuzzy concepts is investigated based on the idea of abstract approximation space in rough set theory. A weak approximation space and a CN-fuzzy rough set are defined in fuzzy decision systems by means of a family of fuzzy condition concepts, from which the values of lower and upper approximation of each object may be determined. Therefore, a decision making about fuzzy concept is obtained.
