Abstract:Current steganographic techniques for low bitrate speech streams, like Quantization-Index-Modulation (QIM), face challenges in balancing security and imperceptibility. Traditional QIM methods are vulnerable to steganalysis and introduce detectable cover modifications, raising concerns about their robustness. This research aims to enhance the security of quantization-index-modulation (QIM) steganography for low bitrate speech streams. The approach involves utilizing Irving's stable room-mate problem algorithm for codebook division and implementing a key-based strategy to improve security. Reducing detectable cover changes is adopted to bolster resilience against advanced steganalysis techniques. The proposed method, Stable Room-mate Index Division (SRID), outperforms the traditional QIM approach in terms of steganographic transparency and resistance to steganalysis, as demonstrated through experiments using the ITU-T G.722.2 codec for cover speech. SRID's versatility is highlighted by its successful integration with various speech codecs, including other parametric speech coders, and its effective application to Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) systems. These findings present SRID as a promising and applicable solution for real-world scenarios, enhancing the security of low bitrate speech steganography.
