In this work, four novel tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA)-functionalized nano-sized magnetic polymers (TEPA NMPs) adsorbents have been applied for the removal of Cu(II) from wastewater. Batch adsorption studies were carried out to evaluate the effects of pH value, initial concentration, adsorption isotherm, and adsorption kinetics etc. The adsorption of Cu(II) reached equilibrium rapidly within 90 mins. The adsorption efficiency of the TEPA-NMPs on Cu(II) was dependent on pH value, the initial Cu(II) concentration and the amount of the crosslink agent, i.e., divinylbenzen (DVB) used for the prepreation of the adsorbents. The adsorption efficiency of Cu(II) decreased with the increasing of the initial Cu(II) concentration and pH value. The adsorption data were well fitted with the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity calculated from the Langmuir isotherm was 116.28 mg·g-1 at temperature of 308 K and pH of 4.0. Thermodynamic parameters like ΔHθ, ΔSθ and ΔGθ for the adsorption of Cu(II) onto the TEPA-NMPs have been estimated, which suggested that the adsorption processes of Cu(II) onto the TEPA-NMPs were endothermic and entropy favored in nature, with ΔH at 15.42 kJ·mol-1, ΔS at 62.54 J·mol-1·K-1.

Abstract:Copper pollution is common across the world and has caused serious public health problems recently. Among the conventional methods, adsorption has proved effective, economic, versatile and simple for the removal of aqueous Cu(II) contaminants. Deposits of natural Kaolin are abundant around the world, and are regarded as valueless due to its limited usage in industry. In this study, the adsorption behavior of natural Kaolin towards Cu(II) was evaluated. According to the results, the isothermal adsorption data are well fitted with Sips model, and the adsorption capacity of natural Kaolin to Cu(II) is determined to be 76 mg/g. Several factors can affect the adsorption performance of Cu(II), including dosage of adsorbent, initial Cu(II) concentration, solution pH, temperature and contact time. The kinetics data are also well predicted by the pseudo-first order kinetics and the pseudo-second order kinetics; the equation of the intraparticle diffusion model could be considered as a supplement. The thermodynamic behavior reveals the endothermic and spontaneous nature of the adsorption. The mechanism for the adsorption behavior was studied based on XRD spectra, and ion-exchange reaction and surface complexation were regarded as predominant.

Abstract:The peculiar structure of montmorillonite K-10 makes it has cation exchange capability,and it is the base that montmorillonite K-10 can be used to adsorb heavy mental ions.The adsorption properties of montmorillonite K-10 to nickel ion from aqueous solution were studied by liquid scintillation counting.The effects of such reaction conditions as temperature,pH va1ue,amount of montmorillonite and initial nickel concentration on the nickel ion adsorption content of montmorillonite K-10 were researched.The results indicated that higher pH va1ue,more montmorillonite K-10 and higher temperature are favourable for enrichment of nickel ion on the sorbent.Thermodynamic adsorption isotherm model for nickel ion is described by Freundlich equation.
