Abstract:Purpose - With the integration of science, technology, and culture, micro-dramas have emerged as a new driving force in advancing China’s short video industry. The purpose of this study is to deeply understand and analyze the characteristics of consumer consumption behavior to provide a theoretical perspective for the marketing strategy of microdrama. Design/Methodology/Approach - Based on the internal motivation of consumers and the characteristics of the micro-drama industry, a comprehensive analysis framework is constructed based on the three core dimensions of “autonomy, ability and belonging” in the self-determination theory (SDT). Through literature review, case analysis, and other methods, the consumption characteristics of micro-dramas are systematically examined. Subsequently, targeted marketing strategies are proposed accordingly. Findings - The study shows that consumers show diversified motives and demands in the consumption of short dramas, among which the pursuit of autonomy, the sense of ability and the construction of belonging become the key factors affecting consumers’ decision-making. Based on these findings, this study further refines the consumption characteristics of microdramas and reveals the intrinsic link between them and marketing strategies. Research Implications - This study enriches the theoretical research in the field of drama marketing. Through indepth understanding of the consumption characteristics of consumers, enterprises can more accurately locate the target market and formulate more effective marketing strategies, so as to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the drama industry.

They have since developed a unique narrative system and aesthetic style. Abstract:Abstract The ongoing evolution of the micro-short drama industry has led to increasingly sophisticated skill demands for professionals. In response, this study leverages the synergy between industry and education, employing Word2Vec and spectral clustering to develop a talent demand model predicated on text mining techniques for micro short dramas. A specialized talent demand dictionary was established to facilitate the analysis of job distribution characteristics and talent requirements within the micro short drama sector. This research introduces an optimized strategy for content creation and a novel approach to talent development for online micro skits. We conducted pedagogical experiments with students from four digital media classes across two academic levels at a university to assess the efficacy of this talent development model. The experiments specifically measured its impact on enhancing students’ abilities in micro skit creation. The results underscored interpersonal communication and content creation as the paramount skills in micro short drama, constituting 36.48% and 32.73% of talent demands, respectively. Post-experiment, the micro skit creation skills of students in the experimental cohort were observed to improve by 26.60% compared to their peers in standard classes and by 41.87% relative to their baseline capabilities prior to the experiment. These findings highlight the substantial benefits of the proposed talent cultivation model. The discussion in this paper addresses the refined strategies for creating and nurturing talent in networked micro short dramas, presenting a significant contribution to educational methodologies and scholarly discourse in digital media studies.

Abstract:The rapid evolution of the Chinese television industry in the digital era has necessitated innovative marketing strategies to captivate diverse audiences. This study delves into the dynamic interplay between online streaming services, social media engagement, influencer collaborations, fan interactions, and crossover collaborations in the context of Chinese television dramas. The research background highlights the industry’s transition from conventional broadcasting to online platforms, emphasizing the growing significance of digital marketing strategies. Recognizing the pivotal role of youths as a valuable audience category, this paper addresses the challenges digital marketing faces in attracting and engaging this demographic. The research results reveal that while online streaming services and social media platforms enhance accessibility, content saturation, and content dispersion across platforms pose challenges in maintaining engagement. The integration of influencers and fan engagement has driven viewership and cultivated a sense of belonging; however, authenticity concerns and managing fan expectations remain key issues. Crossover collaborations and product placements exhibit potential for synergies between e-commerce and entertainment industries, though incongruity with storyline and execution challenges needs careful consideration. The research findings hold significant implications for Chinese television industry stakeholders, offering a comprehensive understanding of effective marketing practices, challenges, and solutions, thereby enhancing the business value of Chinese television dramas through informed decision-making, sustainable growth, and a global reach. The findings empower content creators, production houses, marketers, and streaming platforms to tailor strategies that resonate with audiences and enhance viewer engagement, crafting effective marketing strategies in the digital era.

Abstract:This article takes Li Ziqi's short video as a successful case of Chinese cultural short video, and analyzes the reasons why it attracts Chinese and foreign audiences from the perspective of cross-cultural communication. According to the research, the communication content of Li Ziqi's short videos conforms to the cultural prototype common to the world; the communication symbol adopts personalized national expression; the communication discourse abandons the traditional grand narrative and adopts the modern aesthetic narrative; the communication effect satisfies the value recognition of the audience. The above four aspects together constitute the cross-cultural communication strategy of Li Ziqi's short videos, which can provide reference and reference for the cross-cultural communication of Chinese culture in the short video era.

Abstract:At present, short videos are still the trend of the industry. The research of this paper will be based on the theoretical perspective of dramaturgy theory and use the typical research methods named case analysis and content analysis to analyze the popular video blogger ‘Zhihao will’ on a specific short video platform Douyin, which is an another official version of Tiktok used in the mainland of China, to conduct analysis and research, and to find out how to establish personal brands basically in the short videos era. After selecting and doing a research on the video contents released by the research subjects from 2018 to 2022, it is found that in the process of using short video as a medium to transmit content, a certain label for characters in short videos are necessarily needed for spreading its desired aims and contents to leave the first impression on audiences.

Abstract:In the era of "micro", the popularity of short video platforms provides a reasonable basis for developing micro web series, and the fast-paced life makes users more inclined to receive the piecemeal audio-visual experience. Along with the complement of network audio-visual industry developing planning and policies, the improvement of content audit system, the maturity of streaming technology, and the drive for content innovation, China's micro web series market has shown vigorous development. The short video platforms have provided distribution channels for micro web series, the comprehensive video platforms have joined to make the micro web series boutique, and the theatrical operation and support programs of platforms have provided a standardized and orderly market environment for micro web series. However, there are still shortcomings in the quality of episodes, policy regulation, cashing mode, content depth, and marketing channels. Micro web series is still relatively new, and little research has been conducted in this field. Therefore, it is necessary and innovative to study the development status of the micro web series. Meanwhile, this study puts forward development strategies such as branding and quality construction of micro web series to promote the healthy development of China's micro web series industry.

Abstract:With the development of new media application technology, the relationship between short video and communication psychology also has a certain influence on communication strategy. The existing short videos have problems such as poor continuity of work series and short life cycle of videos. To optimize the existing communication strategies of food short videos and put forward insights for the user psychology research of food short videos, this paper analyzes the user preference communication strategies from the perspective of food short videos and the perspective of communication psychology. This paper adopts the questionnaire survey method and the in-depth interview method. To the research results, the viewing motivation of food short video users is mainly leisure entertainment and relaxation, and the content preferences include funny light comedy and pastoral style, etc. Users attach attention to the clicks of videos and hold a high desire for interaction. The "explosive point" characteristics of food short videos are close to life and full of new ideas. The optimized communication strategy should grasp users’ preferences and improve the interaction frequency, to obtain a more significant communication effect.

The “Empresses in the Palace” marketing strategies demonstrated innovation and creativity against intense competition within the historical drama landscape. Bridging the historical-contemporary gap and sustaining viewer engagement emerged as prominent challenges. This research has proposed various strategies tailored to address these challenges effectively. Abstract:Korean film and television dramas are one of the important carriers of intercultural communication in Korean culture. The study of the reasons for the popularity of Korean dramas from the perspective of intercultural communication has received extensive attention, but there is still a lack of in-depth research on the latest explosive Korean dramas. This paper will take the Korean drama Queen of Tears, which exploded in the first half of 2024, as a sample to analyze the reasons for the popularity of the Korean drama Queen of Tears in China under the cross-cultural communication path. The paper analyses that the popularity of Queen of Tears is inextricably linked to the interplay of casting, plot, filming, and production. Based on this, this essay proposes that domestic TV dramas should pay attention to character suitability in casting, rich and diversified plots, and character settings, and focus on short-video marketing and other suggestions, hoping to shed some light on the production of domestic TV dramas, to promote the export of Chinese culture to foreign countries.

Abstract:Recently, TV dramas reedited by network novels have become the main content of Chinese popular culture. Based on analyzing the phenomenon of its high communication influence, the cross-media narration of the works greatly affects its communication. This study adopts the case study method, combined with the text analysis of TV dramas. This paper finds that the adaptation of online novels to film and television works is more prominent in artistic expression. This paper depicts that online novels adapt film and television works, as it may focus on the diversity of media texts through cross-media narration study.

Abstract:Purpose - The purpose of this study is to understand the motivating factors of Chinese audience who watch the interactive drama, and suggest the effects of audience’ motivation on viewing flow, satisfaction, and loyalty. Design/methodology/approach - To achieve the purpose of the study, a questionnaire survey on the Internet was conducted from September 26, 2021 to October 14, 2021, and data from 332 Chinese respondents were collected. Findings - Findings of this study are 1) audience motivation of watching the interactive drama is composed of 6 factors including the pursuit of entertainment and information, curiosity, interaction, sense of control and indirect experience; 2) the pursuit of entertainment and information, interaction and indirect experience have positive effects on viewing flow; 3) all six factors of audience motivation have positive effects on audience satisfaction; 4) four motivating factors including the pursuit of entertainment, curiosity, interaction and indirect experience have positive effects on audience loyalty. 5) viewing flow and audience satisfaction respectively has some partial mediating effects on the relationship between audience motivation and audience loyalty. Research implications or Originality - Results of this study suggest that in order to increase audience loyalty to interactive dramas, in addition to fulfilling the pursuit of entertainment, which is the basic motive for watching any drama, it is important to fulfill motivating factors related to the unique characteristics of interactive dramas such as curiosity, interaction, and indirect experience. In order for these motivating factors to lead to audience loyalty, it is more effective when viewing flow and audience satisfaction are accompanied.

Abstract:Using YouTube as the platform and rural short videos as the entry point, this study investigates how Chinese rural short videos empower the external dissemination of Chinese culture on the YouTube platform. By using comparative analysis and content analysis research methods to select samples and construct categories, the aim is to compare rural and non rural themed Chinese short videos, as well as the similarities and differences in text structure and symbol types between Chinese rural short videos and foreign rural short videos, to analyze the empowerment of rural elements combined with different themes, and to summarize the dissemination content characteristics of Chinese rural short videos that have successfully gained popularity on the YouTube platform.

Abstract:As a popular way of information dissemination, short video brings new opportunities for the spread of traditional culture. Li Ziqi's short video shows the traditional and quaint life of China people, constructs a poetic and pastoral mirror image, alleviates the public's anxiety about modernity by emotionally stimulating nostalgia, and constructs a traditional cultural community. Although the continuous development of emerging technologies and new media has brought technological advantages and development opportunities for the export of China's excellent traditional culture, it has also brought new challenges and dilemmas. Therefore, we must intensify our efforts to explore the cross-cultural communication path of China's excellent culture and enhance the international influence of China's traditional culture. Li Ziqi's short video conforms to the change of this communication context, conforms to the development trend of diversification of communication subjects, and realizes the multi-level combined communication of traditional culture. Abstract:Recently, short online videos have been highly recognized by video market users and have developed rapidly. This study aims to explore why users enjoy watching and sharing short online videos by applying the theory of flow experience. Previous research has extensively examined traditional video arts such as TV and movies and text or image based, while research on short online videos has increased only in recent years. To improve the precision and comprehensiveness of the research, social influence is also used as a variable. This study takes the short video representative platform DouYin as a case study and the Chinese user market as the background. Through questionnaires, 406 users' data about short online video experiences were collected. After statistical analysis, the study finds that flow experience has a significant impact on participative behaviour and sharing behaviour for short online videos. According to further analyses, the flow experience, social norms, perceived critical mass and participative and sharing behaviour constitute three groups of mediating relationships. Finally, the discussion of the research results provides help to broaden the academic scope of the flow experience and video art, improve the short online video platform environment, and upgrade short online video services.
