Abstract:With the development of economic globalization, the interactions between different cultures have been increasingly intensified. People of different culture background, word views and values may inevitably encounter diverse problems and consequently misunderstanding and conflict may arise in cross-cultural communication. This calls for our research into different cultures so that we can find our problem-solving methods and strategies. Diet that contains eating habits and etiquette is the necessity in the life and also the development of human beings, which is a good way to know different country’s culture. So the eating habits and etiquette are problems that are worth our attention. The author here will study the differences between Chinese and Western eating habits and etiquette through the conception, cooking methods, ingredients, order of serving dishes, sense of eating, dining etiquette, historical and cultural reasons.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to explore the cultural differences in table manners between China and Russia, and to provide some suggestions for improving intercultural communication and understanding in this field. The paper adopts a comparative and analytical approach, using both qualitative and quantitative methods to collect and process data. It identifies several aspects of table manners that differ significantly between the two countries, such as the use of chopsticks and forks, the role of hosts and guests, and the expression of gratitude and satisfaction. The paper also discusses the underlying reasons for these differences, such as historical, religious, and political factors. The article concludes that table manners are an important part of cultural identity and communication, and that both Chinese and Russian people should respect and appreciate each other’s customs and traditions.

Abstract:The object of the study is the Russian and Chinese speech etiquette at the table. The author examines in detail such aspects of the topic as differences in seating arrangements, use of dinner set and meal system between China and Russia at business banquets, and also lists the relevant rules of etiquette and at the same time indicates the specific reasons for the differences. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the reasons for these differences by comparing the seating arrangements, use of dinner set and meal system at business banquets between Russia and China, and practical recommendations are given for future business banquets between Russia and China. The special conclusions of the study are religious ideology, geography, history and culture have a very important influence on table manners in Russia and China. The author's special contribution to the research of the topic is the analysis and comparison of speech etiquette at the table in business communication between Russians and Chinese, which helps the staff of both countries to better understand each other in economic and trade cooperation. The novelty of this article lies in pointing out not only the differences between Russian and Chinese business banquets, but also the factors influencing these differences.

Abstract:After China acceded to the Word Trade Organization(WTO), cultural and economic exchanges between China and the West are becoming more and more. In order to get on well with the western companies, we are supposed to understand their business etiquette. Under the open business environment, business etiquette is generally influenced by strong culture and then become the global etiquette. In fact, there are still a lot of differences between Chinese and western business etiquette. The two are different in values, concepts of time, concepts of diet, language habits and so on. So in commercial activities, we had better to know these differences and avoid them. This paper focus on these differences and aims to use them to achieve the business communication effectively.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is to study China and Russian‘s different social etiquette so as to avoid culture shock when communicating, and to help Chinese who first come to Russia get a landscape of Russian social manners and better integrate their lives into the Russian society. This article provides a comprehensive comparison between the two countries‘ social norms in different aspects including greetings and addressing, personal space, and dining. Drawing upon the difference in core values and national characteristics, a conclusion of the main differences in Russian and China‘s social etiquettes is made. And some strategies for Chinese learners of Russian to reduce communication barriers are offered.

Abstract:Seating arrangements in a banquet are quite complicated because a multitude of factors need to be considered. One of the most paramount is “face”. However, individuals from different cultural backgrounds possess different understandings of face. This paper analyzes the differences between Chinese and Western seating etiquette by comparing Chinese and Western banquet seating arrangements, with The Dream of Red Mansions and Downton Abbey as the text research material. The paper also explores the underlying reasons from the perspective of positive face vs. negative face and collective face vs. individual face, combining Brown and Levinson’s Face Threatening Act (FTA) and Face Saving Theory (FST) in politeness principle. According to the analysis, the Chinese regard “respect for elders” and “distance between superiors and inferiors” as seating standards, adopting positive politeness strategy to maintain collective face, while the westerner emphasize “lady first” and “equality and mutual benefits”, adopting negative politeness strategy to maintain individual face. Understanding the differences between Chinese and Western etiquette is conducive to the exchange and integration of different nationalities and the elimination of barriers in cross-cultural communication.

Abstract:Table manners of work dinners are the epitome of the workplace’s culture. People’s different behaviors in work dinners in the presence of leaders can reflect their different attitudes towards power. This essay aims to study the different attitudes of Chinese and Norwegians towards power, and the theory framework is Hofstede’s power distance theory. The author used unstructured interview to collect data. And through comparing different behaviors of Chinese and Norwegians in the seat order, the feeling/atmosphere, communicating with leaders, the willingness of toast, and toasting behaviors, it can be concluded that Chinese and Norwegians have different power values. Understanding the power distance among different countries is beneficial to establish good relations in the international workplace, and it can promote the international communication.

Abstract:Politeness is the badge of human civilization,and a significant criterion to human society activity; politeness,as a social phenomenon,is the imperative tool and method to maintain human relation in perfect harmony; politeness is a kind of social conventions,it lays certain restraints on all the social members. From ancient to modern times,either in East or West,people always attach great importance to politeness. To save face of the speaker or the hearer,politeness is of considerable practical significance in the conversation. As a matter of fact,its value can never be underestimated. However,due to different historical,lingual and cultural backgrounds,different societies may have different criteria to politeness. And this leads to some problems such as misunderstandings and embarrassments in cross-cultural or intercultural communication. In order to solve these problems,many scholars and linguists at home and abroad have proposed different principles of politeness so far. The author aims to make a comparative study on politeness principles between Chinese and English language and cultures. Analyzing the differences can help to remove the communicative barrier encountered by people who come from different countries with different cultural backgrounds and effectively promote further mutual understanding and cross-cultural communication.

By doing this, people can have a further comprehension of the values, cognitive styles, and social habits behind different cultures and languages. In recent research, it has been shown that there are differences in language expression between China and the West, as well as differences in personal values and time. The author would like to research the differences between Chinese and Western ways of thinking in language, the differences in social etiquette and ways of interacting with the different values and cognitive styles. The purpose of the research is to assist people better cope with the challenges of cultural conflicts and exchanges and to foster mutual cooperation among different cultures. The research method used in this paper is the literature review, and the significance of the research is that it not only can help people better cope with and conform to this difference in thinking between China and the West, but it also improves the international communication capacity of future students.
