Abstract:A general fixed point theorem for isometries in terms of metric functionals is proved under the assumption of the existence of a conical bicombing. It is new for isometries of convex sets of Banach spaces as well as for non-locally compact CAT(0)-spaces and injective spaces. Examples of actions on non-proper CAT(0)-spaces come from the study of diffeomorphism groups, birational transformations, and compact Kähler manifolds. A special case of the fixed point theorem provides a novel mean ergodic theorem that in the Hilbert space case implies von Neumann's theorem. The theorem accommodates classically fixed-point-free isometric maps such as those of Kakutani, Edelstein, Alspach and Prus. Moreover, from the main theorem together with some geometric arguments of independent interest, one can deduce that every bounded invertible operator of a Hilbert space admits a nontrivial invariant metric functional on the space of positive operators. This is a result in the direction of the invariant subspace problem although its full meaning is dependent on a future determination of such metric functionals.

Abstract:In recent times there have been two prominent trends in metric fixed point theory. One is the use of weak contractive inequalities and the other is the use of binary relations. Combining the two trends, in this paper we establish a relation-theoretic fixed point result for a mapping which is defined on a metric space with an arbitrary binary relation and satisfies a weak contractive inequality for any pair of points whenever the pair of points is related by a given relation. The uniqueness is obtained by assuming some extra conditions. The metric space is assumed to be R -complete. We use R -continuity of functions. The property of local T-transitivity of the relation R is used in the main theorem. There is an illustrative example. An existing fixed point result is generalized through the present work. We use a method in the proof of our main theorem which is a blending of relation-theoretic and analytic approaches.

Abstract:Let T be a self-mapping on a complete metric space (X, d). In this paper, we obtain new fixed point theorems assuming that T satisfies a contractive-type condition of the following form: $$\begin{aligned} \psi (d(Tx,Ty)) \le \varphi (d(x,y)) \end{aligned}$$or T satisfies a generalized contractive-type condition of the form $$\begin{aligned} \psi (d(Tx,Ty)) \le \varphi (m(x,y)), \end{aligned}$$where ${\psi ,\varphi :(0,\infty ) \rightarrow {\mathbb {R}}}$ and m(x, y) is defined by $$\begin{aligned} m(x,y) = \max \left\{ d(x,y), d(x,Tx), d(y,Ty), [d(x,Ty)+d(y,Tx)] / 2 \right\} . \end{aligned}$$In both cases, the results extend and unify many earlier results. Among the other results, we prove that recent fixed point theorems of Wardowski (2012) and Jleli and Samet (2014) are equivalent to a special case of the well-known fixed point theorem of Skof (1977).

Abstract:We consider a new type of mappings in metric spaces which can be characterized as mappings contracting perimeters of triangles. It is shown that such mappings are continuous. The fixed-point theorem for such mappings is proved and the classical Banach fixed-point theorem is obtained like a simple corollary. An example of a mapping contractive perimeters of triangles which is not a contraction mapping is constructed.

Abstract:We introduce a new type of mappings in metric spaces which are three-point analogue of the well-known Kannan type mappings and call them generalized Kannan type mappings. It is shown that in general case such mappings are discontinuous but continuous at fixed points as well as Kannan type mappings and that these two classes of mappings are independent. The fixed-point theorem for generalized Kannan type mappings is proved. Additional conditions of asymptotic regularity and continuity allow us to extent the class of mappings for which the fixed-point theorems hold. Following Kannan, we also obtain two other fixed-point theorems for generalized Kannan type mappings in metric spaces which are not obligatory complete.

Abstract:This paper explores fixed points for both contractive and non-contractive mappings in traditional b-metric spaces, preordered b-metric spaces, and random b-metric spaces. Our findings provide insights into the behavior of mappings under various constraints and extend our approach to include coincidence and common fixed-point theorems in these spaces. We present new examples and graphical representations for the first time, offering novel results and enhancing several related findings in the literature, while broadening the scope of earlier works of Ran and Reurings, Nieto and Rodríguez-López, Górnicki, and others.

Abstract:Metric fixed point theory is becoming increasingly significant across various fields, including data science and iterative methods for solving optimization problems. This paper aims to introduce new fixed point theorems for set-valued mappings under novel regularity conditions, such as orbital regularity and orbital pseudo-Lipschitzness. Instead of traditional metric spaces, we adopt the framework of quasi-metric spaces, motivated by the need to address problems in spaces that are not necessarily metric, such as function spaces of homogeneous type. We also explore the stability of the set of fixed points under variations of the set-valued mapping. Additionally, we provide estimates for the distances from a given point to the set of fixed points and between two sets of fixed points. Building on these findings, we extend the discussion to similar problems involving fixed, coincidence, and cyclic/double fixed points within this framework. Abstract:Geometric properties of the fixed point set $Fix(f)$ of a self-mapping $f$ on a metric or a generalized metric space is an attractive issue. The set $Fix(f)$ can contain a geometric figure (a circle, an ellipse, etc.) or it can be a geometric figure. In this paper, we consider the set of simulation functions for geometric applications in the fixed point theory both on metric and some generalized metric spaces ($S$-metric spaces and $b$-metric spaces). The main motivation of this paper is to investigate the geometric properties of non unique fixed points of self-mappings via simulation functions.

Abstract:In 1994, Matthews obtained an extension of the celebrated Banach fixed point theorem to the partial metric framework (Ann. N.Y. Acad. Sci. 728:183-197, 1994). Motivated by the Matthews extension of the Banach theorem, we present a Nemytskii-Edelstein type fixed point theorem for self-mappings in partial metric spaces in such a way that the classical one can be retrieved as a particular case of our new result. We give examples which show that the assumed hypothesis in our new result cannot be weakened. Moreover, we show that our new fixed point theorem allows one to find fixed points of mappings in some cases in which the Matthews result and the classical Nemytskii-Edelstein one cannot be applied. Furthermore, we provide a negative answer to the question about whether our new result can be retrieved as a particular case of the classical Nemytskii-Edelstein one whenever the metrization technique, developed by Hitzler and Seda (Mathematical Aspects of Logic Programming Semantics, 2011), is applied to partial metric spaces.

Abstract:There have been many attempts to generalize the definition of a metric space in order to obtain possibilities for more general fixed point results. In this paper, we give a survey of recent results on reducing fixed point theorems on generalized metric spaces to fixed point theorems on metric spaces and then investigate this fact in other generalized metric spaces. We show that many generalized metric spaces are topologically equivalent to certain metric spaces or to previously generalized metric spaces. Also, the fixed point theory in these generalized metric spaces may be a consequence of the fixed point theory in certain metric spaces or in previously generalized metric spaces.

Abstract:In the present work, we will establish and prove some fixed point theorems for mappings that satisfy a set of conditions in controlled metric type spaces introduced by Mlaiki et al. [N. Mlaiki, H. Aydi, N. Souayah, T. Abdeljawad, Controlled metric type spaces and the related contraction principle. Mathematics 2018, 6,194]. Our technique in constructing our new contraction conditions is to insert the control function $ \theta(u, l) $ that appears on the right hand side of the triangular inequality of the definition of the controlled metric spaces in the right hand side of our proposed contraction conditions. Our results enrich the field of fixed point theory with novel findings that generalize many findings found in the literature. We provide an example to show the usefulness of our results. Also, we present an application to our results to show their significance.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new category of mappings within metric spaces, specifically focusing on three-point analogs of the well-established Chatterjea type mappings. We demonstrate that Chatterjea type mappings and their three-point analogs are different classes of mappings. A fixed point theorem for generalized Chatterjea type mappings is established. It is shown that these mappings are continuous at fixed point. Connections between generalized Chatterjea type mappings, generalized Kannan type mappings, Chatterjea type mappings, and mappings contracting perimeters of triangles are found. Additionally, we derive two fixed point theorems for generalized Chatterjea type mappings in metric spaces, even when completeness is not mandatory.
