Abstract:We prove a general result on representing the Riemann zeta function as a convergent infinite series in a complex vertical strip containing the critical line. We use this result to re-derive known expansions as well as to discover new series representations of the Riemann zeta function in terms of the incomplete gamma functions, generalized hypergeometric functions and Meijer $G$-functions.

Abstract:Relying on the Hurwitz formula, we find closed-form formulas for the series over sine and cosine functions through the Hurwitz zeta functions, and using them and another summation formula for trigonometric series, we obtain a finite sum for some series over the Riemann zeta functions. We apply these results to the series over Bessel functions, expressing them first as series over the Riemann zeta functions.

Abstract:We consider the variation of two fundamental types of zeta functions that arise in the study of both physical and analytical problems in geometric settings involving conical singularities. These are the Barnes zeta functions and the Bessel zeta functions. Although the series used to define them do not converge at zero, using methods of complex analysis we are able to calculate the derivatives of these zeta functions at zero. These zeta functions depend critically on a certain parameter, and we calculate the variation of these derivatives with respect to the parameter. For integer values of the parameter, we obtain a new expression for the variation of the Barnes zeta function with respect to the parameter in terms of special functions. For the Bessel zeta functions, we obtain two different expressions for the variation via two independent methods. Of course, the expressions should be equal, and we verify this by demonstrating several identities for both special and elementary functions. We encountered these zeta functions while working with determinants of Laplace operators on cones and angular sectors.

Abstract:We have established novel integral representations of the Riemann zeta-function and Dirichlet eta-function based on powers of trigonometric functions and digamma function, and then use these representations to find close forms of Laurent series expansions of these same powers of trigonometric functions and digamma function. The so obtained series can be used to find numerous summation rules for certain values of the Riemann zeta and related functions and numbers, such as e.g. Bernoulli and Euler numbers.

Abstract:In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the radii of starlikeness of the normalized Jackson's second and third q -Bessel functions, focusing on their large orders. To achieve this, we use the Rayleigh sums of positive zeros of both q -Bessel functions, and determine the coefficients of the asymptotic expansions. We derive complete asymptotic expansions for these radii of starlikeness and provide recurrence relations for the coefficients of these expansions. The proofs rely on the notion of Rayleigh sums of positive zeros of q -Bessel functions, Kvitsinsky's results on spectral zeta functions for q -Bessel functions and asymptotic inversion. Moreover, we derive bounds for the radius of starlikeness of q -Bessel functions by using potential polynomials.

Abstract:Contour integral representations for Riemann's Zeta function and Dirichelet's Eta (alternating Zeta) function are presented and investigated. These representations flow naturally from methods developed in the 1800's, but somehow they do not appear in the standard reference summaries, textbooks or literature. Using these representations as a basis, alternate derivations of known series and integral representations for the Zeta and Eta function are obtained on a unified basis that differs from the textbook approach, and results are developed that appear to be new.

Abstract:Named essentially after their close relationship with the modified Bessel function Kν(z) of the second kind, which is known also as the Macdonald function (or, with a slightly different definition, the Basset function), the so-called Bessel polynomials yn(x) and the generalized Bessel polynomials yn(x;α,β) stemmed naturally in some systematic investigations of the classical wave equation in spherical polar coordinates. Our main purpose in this invited survey-cum-expository review article is to present an introductory overview of the Bessel polynomials yn(x) and the generalized Bessel polynomials yn(x;α,β) involving the asymmetric parameters α and β. Each of these polynomial systems, as well as their reversed forms θn(x) and θn(x;α,β), has been widely and extensively investigated and applied in the existing literature on the subject. We also briefly consider some recent developments based upon the basic (or quantum or q-) extensions of the Bessel polynomials. Several general families of hypergeometric polynomials, which are actually the truncated or terminating forms of the series representing the generalized hypergeometric function rFs with r symmetric numerator parameters and s symmetric denominator parameters, are also investigated, together with the corresponding basic (or quantum or q-) hypergeometric functions and the basic (or quantum or q-) hypergeometric polynomials associated with rΦs which also involves r symmetric numerator parameters and s symmetric denominator parameters.

Abstract:We explore a variant of the zeta function interpolating the Bernoulli numbers based on an integral representation suggested by J. Jensen. The Bernoulli function $\operatorname{B}(s, v) = - s\, \zeta(1-s, v)$ can be introduced independently of the zeta function if it is based on a formula first given by Jensen in 1895. We examine the functional equation of $\operatorname{B}(s, v)$ and its representation by the Riemann $\zeta$ and $\xi$ function, and recast classical results of Hadamard, Worpitzky, and Hasse in terms of $\operatorname{B}(s, v).$ The extended Bernoulli function defines the Bernoulli numbers for odd indices basing them on rational numbers studied by Euler in 1735 that underlie the Euler and André numbers. The Euler function is introduced as the difference between values of the Hurwitz-Bernoulli function. The André function and the Seki function are the unsigned versions of the extended Euler resp. Bernoulli function.

Berndt-Type Integrals and Series Associated with Ramanujan and Jacobi Elliptic Functions

Abstract:In this paper, we evaluate in closed forms two families of infinite integrals containing hyperbolic and trigonometric functions in their integrands. We call them Berndt-type integrals since he initiated the study of similar integrals. We first establish explicit evaluations of four classes of hyperbolic sums by special values of the Gamma function, by two completely different approaches, which extend those sums considered by Ramanujan and Zucker previously. We discover the first by refining two results of Ramanujan concerning some $q$-series. For the second we compare both the Fourier series expansions and the Maclaurin series expansions of a few Jacobi elliptic functions. Next, by contour integrations we convert two families of Berndt-type integrals to the above hyperbolic sums, all of which can be evaluated in closed forms. We then discover explicit formulas for one of the two families. Throughout the paper we present many examples which enable us to formulate a conjectural explicit formula for the other family of the Berndt-type integrals at the end.

Abstract:Many interesting solutions of the so-called Basler problem of evaluating the Riemann zeta function ζ( s ) when s = 2, which was of vital importance to Euler and the Bernoulli brothers (Jakob and Johann Bernoulli), have appeared in the mathematical literature ever since Euler first solved this problem in the year 1736. The main object of the present paper is to investigate rather systematically several interesting evaluations and representations of ζ( s ) when s ∈ ℕ¼ {1}. In one of many computationally useful special cases considered here, it is observed that ζ(3) can be represented by means of a series which converges much more rapidly than that in Euler's celebrated formula as well as the series used recently by Apery in his proof of the irrationality of ζ(3). Symbolic and numerical computations using Mathematica (Version 4.0) for Linux show, among other things, that only 50 terms of this series are capable of producing an accuracy of seven decimal places.
On the series expansion of the secondary zeta function

Abstract:In article, we explore the secondary zeta function $Z(s)$, which is defined as a generalized zeta type of series over imaginary parts of non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta(s)$. This function has been analytically continued as a meromorphic function in $\mathbb{C}$ with one double pole and an infinity of simple poles. The secondary zeta function is of interest because it can naturally represent an analytical formula for non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function that we will explore, and we show that the non-trivial zeros can be generated directly from primes by introducing a new form of an explicit formula written in terms of the prime zeta function. Additionally, we will also give several new series expansions for $Z(s)$ and numerically compute these coefficients to high precision, and also develop several new methods to analytically extend $Z(s)$ to larger domains and develop algorithms to compute them.

Abstract:In this paper our aim is to present an elementary proof of an identity of Calogero concerning the zeros of Bessel functions of the first kind. Moreover, by using our elementary approach we present a new identity for the zeros of Bessel functions of the first kind, which in particular reduces to some other new identities. We also show that our method can be applied for the zeros of other special functions, like Struve functions of the first kind, and modified Bessel functions of the second kind.

Abstract:The subject of closed-form summation of series involving the Zeta functions has been remarkably widely investigated. Recently, in the course of his trying to give a closed-form expression for the Dirichlet beta function β(2n )( n ∈ N) ,L ima (16) posed a very interesting experimental conjecture for a closed-form evaluation of a certain class of series involving the Riemann Zeta function ζ(s). Here, in the present sequel to Lima's work, we aim at verifying correctness of Lima's conjecture and presenting several general analogues of Lima's conjecture. Our demonstration and derivations are based mainly upon a known formula for series associated with the Zeta functions. Relevant connections of some specialized results of the main identities presented here with those obtained in earlier works are also pointed out.
