Abstract:WRKY transcription factors (TFs) are a class of sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins found mainly in plants [1,2]. The number of WRKY family members increases during the course of plant evolution. Consistent with this, the WRKY family has a single member in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, 35 members in the moss Selaginella moellendorffii, 74 members in the dicot plant Arabidopsis thaliana, and 102 members in the monocot plant Oryza sativa ssp. indica (rice) [1,2]. The WRKY TF family members are characterized by a highly conserved WRKYGQK amino acid sequence and a C2H2 or C2HC zinc finger-like motif [2].
