Abstract:New experimental data concerning pyrolysis of ruthenium-titanium chloride or hydroxide precipitates and interaction of ruthenium and titanium components in solutions used for preparation of anode coatings are presented. Analysis of experimental data allows us to make certain conclusions concerning the nature of the mixed rutile phases. They can be represented as solid solutions with short range ordering which means that in contrast to the solid solutions with the mixing of components on an atomic level, in this case whole domains (a few nanometers in size) of oxide Ru and Ti rutile phases are statistically distributed. These structural peculiarities originate from the sorption character of ruthenium aquahydroxochlorocomplexes on interaction with the surface of hydrated titanium dioxide particles. The latter are formed as a result of hydrolysis in the mixtures of initial solutions. Chloro-, aqua- and hydroxoligands proved to be essential for interaction of ruthenium-titanium components in solution; their presence ensures high dispersity and consequently maximum participation of ruthenium and titanium in the formation of rutile mixed oxide phases.
