Abstract:Purpose: To investigate the clinical features and visual outcome of infectious keratitis associated with Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lens in Korean pediatric patients. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients diagnosed with Ortho-K lens-associated infectious keratitis from June 2005 to April 2020 at a tertiary referral hospital. Patients' demographics, clinical features, microbiological evaluation, and treatment methods were assessed and factors related to final visual outcomes were analyzed. Results: The study included 26 eyes of 26 patients (19 female, 7 male; mean age: 11.9 years), with an average Ortho-K lens wear duration of 33.7 ± 21.2 months. The highest number of cases occurred in summer (42.3%, 11/26). Central or paracentral corneal lesions were observed in 96.2% (25/26) of cases, with a mean corneal epithelial defect size of 5.13 mm². Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most commonly isolated organism (n = 5), followed by Serratia marcescens (n = 4). All patients responded to medical treatment without needing surgical intervention. 72% of cases achieved favorable visual outcomes (Snellen BCVA > 6/12), while 8% experienced severe visual impairment (Snellen BCVA ≤ 6/60) due to residual central corneal opacities. Multivariable analysis showed that non-summer seasons, duration from symptom onset to presentation, and corneal epithelial defect size were significantly associated with final logMAR BCVA (p = 0.043, p = 0.040, and p = 0.002, respectively). Failed autorefraction at presentation due to an Ortho-K-related infectious keratitis lesion was a significant predictor of poor final visual outcome (Snellen BCVA ≤ 6/12) (OR = 38.995, p = 0.030). Conclusions: Ortho-K lens-related infectious keratitis can lead to permanent corneal opacities and potentially devastating visual outcomes in children. Delayed time to presentation, large corneal lesions, failure of autorefraction, and non-summer seasons were associated with poorer outcomes. Proper education and early detection would be key to safe use of orthokeratology lenses in pediatric patients.

Abstract:Filamentary keratitis (FK) is a chronic and recurrent disorder of the cornea. FK is reportedly associated with various kinds of ocular surface diseases or conditions. Until now, there have been lacks of studies based on quantitative sample analysis concerning FK incidence regularity and inducement characteristics at different ages. This was a retrospective study of 147 patients (162 eyes) with FK who had been continuously and completely recorded from August 2012 to August 2015 at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, east of China. Our results suggest that the causative factors of FK varied at different ages and the distribution of filaments on the corneal surface was also diverse with different inducements.By exploring the frequency and clinical features of FK, we believe that the findings from our research will be clinically significant and aid in the early prevention and treatment guidance of the disease.
[Survey of severe contact lens-associated microbial keratitis in Japan]

Abstract:Purpose: To understand the current state of severe contact lens (CL)-associated microbial keratitis in Japan. Method: The survey was conducted by the Japan Contact Lens Society and the Japanese Association for Ocular Infection in 224 facilities from April 2007 to March 2009. Patients who were diagnosed with CL-associated microbial keratitis and hospitalized for treatment were enrolled. Clinical characteristics of the keratitis, microbiologic findings and the status of CL hygiene were studied. Results: A total of 350 patients were investigated, with an average age of 28.0 (9-90) years. Acanthamoeba was identified in 85 (24.3%) corneal specimens and Pseudomonus aeruginosa in 70 (20.0%) cases. One hundred ninety six (56.0%) patients were frequent replacement soft CL users. Extended wearing of daily-use CLs was found in 77 (22.0%) patients. Only 67 cases maintained good CL hygiene by daily rubbing-washing and the poor CL care situation was reviewed. Conclusion: The most frequently detected pathogenic microorganism was Acanthamoeba, followed by Pseudomonus aeruginosa. Our survey showed the importance of keeping good CL hygiene by proper lens care, and improvement of CL-related social regulations is urgently needed.
The influence of overnight orthokeratology on ocular surface and dry eye-related cytokines IL-17A, IL-6, and PGE2 in children

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Objective</h3><p>To investigate the effect of overnight orthokeratology (OOK) on the ocular surface and dry eye-related cytokines in children.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>A non-randomized, prospective pilot study was conducted including sixty myopes treated with OOK and sixty age-matched spectacle wearing participants. The following tests were performed before and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months: ocular surface disease index (OSDI), noninvasive tear breakup time (NITBUT), tear meniscus height (TMH), corneal fluorescein staining (CFS), meiboscore using noncontact meibography. Then the concentrations of interleukin-17A (IL-17A), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in tear samples were detected with a multiplex immunobead assay at different time points.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>All parameters had no statistical differences between the two groups prior to treatment. No adverse events were observed except trace to moderate corneal staining and allergic conjunctivitis in the treatment group. NITBUT significantly decreased after 6 and 12 months OOK wearing (P = 0.003 and P = 0.001, respectively). After wearing OOK there was a significant increase in CFS at each follow-up time point compared with baseline (P = 0.023, P = 0.016, P = 0.001, and P < 0.001at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months, respectively). The upper meiboscore and the total meiboscore increased gradually and peaked at 12 months of OOK (both P < 0.001). The concentration of the three cytokines in the treatment group significantly increased after OOK wearing. These increases occurred at different time points: IL-17A increased significantly 3 months after OOK, IL-6 at 6 months, and PGE2 at 12 months (all P < 0.001). However, there were no significant changes in the above parameters in the control group. There were no significant differences in the OSDI or TMH at any follow-up time point compared to baseline in both groups (both P > 0.05).</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusions</h3><p>Short-term OOK may reduce the stability of the tear film and increase damage to the corneal epithelium. Long-term OOK could induce ocular inflammation through the disruption of meibomian glands.</p>

Influence of overnight orthokeratology on tear film and meibomian glands in myopic children: a prospective study

Abstract:Background: Orthokeratology lenses, which are worn overnight, are recommended for reducing myopia progression. They lie on the cornea and can influence the ocular surface by temporarily reshaping the corneal surface through a reverse geometry design. This study investigated the effect of overnight orthokeratology lenses on tear film stability and meibomian gland status in children aged 8-15 years. Methods: This prospective, self-controlled study included 33 children with monocular myopia who were prescribed orthokeratology lenses for at least one year. The experimental group (ortho-k group) comprised 33 myopic eyes. The control group comprised the emmetropic eyes of the same participants. Tear film stability and meibomian gland status were measured using a Keratograph 5M (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany). Paired t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to compare the data between the two groups. Results: At the one-year visit, the non-invasive first tear film break-up time (NIBUTf) values were 6.15 ± 2.56 s and 6.18 ± 2.61 s in the experimental and control groups, respectively. The lower tear meniscus height was 18.74 ± 0.05 μm and 18.65 ± 0.04 μm in these groups, respectively. No significant difference was observed in loss of meibomian glands or non-invasive average tear film break-up time between the experimental and control groups using Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Conclusions: The stability of the tear film and meibomian gland status were not significantly affected by wearing orthokeratology lenses overnight, indicating that continuous use of orthokeratology lenses for 12 months has a minimal effect on the ocular surface. This finding can help guide the clinical management of tear film quality with respect to the use of orthokeratology contact lenses.

Abstract:PURPOSE: To present four cases of Acanthamoeba keratitis as a complication of orthokeratology.DESIGN: Observational case report.METHODS: Four patients with Acanthamoeba keratitis had histories of overnight orthokeratology lens wear of 6 months to 2 years.RESULTS: Three cases were diagnosed with Acanthamoeba keratitis by corneal scraping and one by con, focal microscopy examination. The patients were treated with chlorhexidine, metronidazole, and neomycin sulfate, resulting in a rapid resolution of ocular inflammation.CONCLUSION: Overnight wear of orthokeratology lenses may induce Acanthamoeba keratitis. The Effect of Overnight Orthokeratology Lens Wear on Corneal Endothelial Cells in Adolescents

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effect of overnight orthokeratology (ortho-k) lens wear on the number and morphology of corneal endothelial cells in adolescents. Methods: This was a retrospective self-control study. Twenty adolescents with monocular myopia who had been wearing ortho-k lenses overnight for more than one year from 2015 to 2017 were included in this study at Peking University Third Hospital. Twenty eyes prescribed to wear ortho-k lenses overnight were the experimental group, and 20 contralateral eyes without treatment were the control group. The corneal endothelium was examined with specular microscopy to calculate mean endothelial cell density (ECD), percentage of hexagonal cells (HEX) and the coefficient of variation (CV) before and after wearing the lenses for 1 year. A paired t-test was used to analyze the data between the two groups. Results: There were no significant differences in baseline ECD, HEX or CV between the two groups (P>0.05). In the control group, ECD also decreased (t=2.490, P=0.022) with an annual decrease of 1.99％; HEX decreased (t=4.096, P=0.001) with an annual decline of 4.23％. There was no significant difference in CV between the two groups (P>0.05). In the experimental group, ECD showed a downward trend (t=5.802, P<0.001) with an annual decrease of 1.64％; HEX showed a downward trend (t=3.728, P=0.001) with an annual decline of 4.82％. There were no significant differences in changes of ECD, HEX or CV between the two groups one year after treatment (t=-0.453, 0.258, -0.392, P>0.05). Conclusions: The number and morphology of corneal endothelial cells are not significantly affected by wearing overnight ortho-k lenses for one year.

Abstract:Purpose The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence, patient characteristics, and risk factors for severe, contact lens‐related keratitis in patients in need of hospitalization. Methods Keratitis was defined as severe when the disease required hospitalization. All patients with contact lens‐related keratitis hospitalized at our department between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2020 were interviewed with a questionnaire, about their use of contact lenses and knowledge of complications. Clinical information was collected from the medical records. Results A total of 41 patients (42 eyes) were hospitalized with severe keratitis during the 3‐year period. The yearly incidence was 2.52 per 10 000 contact lens users over the age of 15 for extended‐wear lenses used overnight, and 0.52 per 10 000 for users of daily disposable contact lenses. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most frequently isolated microbe. The median age was 50 years (range 15–66 years). Twenty‐three patients (56%) were female, 28 patients (66%) used extended‐wear contact lenses and 12 patients (29%) used daily disposable lenses. Nineteen patients (45%) admitted improper use. The median duration of contact lens use was 11.5 years. Only 15 patients (37%) had knowledge of keratitis as a potential complication. Conclusion Most patients were experienced contact lens users. Users of extended‐wear contact lenses worn overnight had a significantly higher risk of severe microbial keratitis. More focus on information and education of the risk of keratitis in contact lens users is needed.

Abstract:Purpose: To report the incidence and outcomes of microbial keratitis (MK) following cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) for treatment of refractory childhood glaucoma (CG) at a single center over a period of 6 years. Methods: In this cohort study, the medical records of children with CG who underwent CPC and subsequently presented with MK from 2014 to 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. Data were collected on age, type of glaucoma, surgeries before MK, CPC parameters, interval between CPC and MK, presenting symptoms of MK, infiltrate location, bacterial isolates, MK treatment, and outcomes. Results: Among the 312 children who underwent CPC during the study period, 37 eyes of 33 children had MK, with an incidence of 1.8% (95% CI, 0.3-3.2). The median interval between CPC and MK was 4 years (IQR, 2.7-7.4). CPC was repeated once in 20 eyes (54%) and twice in 4 (11%). In 20 eyes, there was no pain at MK onset. The primary isolates were Streptococcus pneumoniae (12/27 [22%]) and Staphylococcus epidermis (8/27 [30%]). MK resolved in 17 eyes (46%) after treatment; 8 eyes (22%) underwent evisceration or had phthisis, and keratoplasty failed in 6 eyes (16%). The absence of pain at presentation with MK was negatively associated with resolution (OR = 5.0 [95% CI, 1.1-23.8]; P = 0.04). Conclusions: The absence of pain at MK onset may be a proxy for neurotrophic keratitis after CPC and is linked to poor response to management.

Abstract:PurposeTo assess the tear film surface quality after orthokeratology using an automated Medmont E300 corneal topographer.MethodsChildren who wore orthokeratology lenses for more than one year were selected in this retrospective study. Tear film disruption (TFD) and central tear film disruption (cTFD) were measured with Medmont E300 corneal topographer at initial and each follow-up visit after fitting with orthokeratology lenses, providing a nominal value from 0 (perfect) to 1 (poor). Tear film surface quality before and after ortho-k treatment was compared.Results145 children using orthokeratology lenses were observed. TFD and cTFD significantly increased at 1-day follow up (TFD, t = -17.3, P < 0.001; cTFD, t = -10.4, P < 0.001). This change remained consistent through to 12-months visit (TFD, F = 51.1, P < 0.001; cTFD, F = 28.0, P < 0.001). A sub-group of n = 11 children were discontinued for 1-month before being refit with OrthoK lenses of a different design. Similarly, there was a significant increase in TFD compared to pre-orthoK scans (0.172 ± 0.161), but this returned to baseline levels after ceasing lens wear (0.084 ± 0.059). A sub-group of monocular OrthoK wearers (n = 23) found that TFD and cTFD values increased in eyes with monocular lens-wearing but remained stable in the lateral eyes.ConclusionsObjective measurements of tear-film quality are reduced in children after fitting with orthokeratology lenses, but return to baseline after 1-month of lens cessation. It is of importance to ensure tear film surface quality is continuously monitored throughout use of orthoK lenses.

Conjunctival Microbiome Changes Associated with Soft Contact Lens and Orthokeratology Lens Wearing.

Abstract:PurposeUsage of different types of contact lenses is associated with increased risk of sight-threatening complications. Changes in the ocular microbiome caused by contact lens wear are suggested to affect infection development in those individuals. To address this question, this study compares conjunctival microbial communities in contact lens wearers with those in noncontact lens wearers.MethodsPaired-end sequencing of the V3 region of the 16S rRNA gene was used to characterize the bacterial communities on the conjunctival surfaces of contact lens wearers and nonwearers.ResultsNo differences in microbial diversity were detected between contact lens wearers and nonwearers. Nevertheless, some slight microbe variability was evident between these two different groups. Bacillus, Tatumella and Lactobacillus abundance was less in orthokeratology lens (OKL) wearers than in nonwearers. In soft contact lenses (SCL) wearers, Delftia abundance decreased whereas Elizabethkingia levels increased. The difference in the SCL and nonwearer group was smaller than that in the OKL group. Variations in the conjunctival taxonomic composition between SCL wearers were larger than those in other groups. Sex differences in the conjunctival microbiota makeup were only evident among nonwearers.ConclusionsEven though there were slight percentage changes between contact lens wearers and nonwearers in some microbes, there were no differences in their diversity. On the other hand, contact lens usage might cause relative abundance of some taxa to change. Our results will help assess whether or not conjunctival microbiome changes caused by contact lens wear affect infection risk.
Overnight Orthokeratology for Correction and Control of Myopia in Adolescents

Abstract:Objective The prevalence of myopia is on the rise in adolescents.Some studies indicate that orthokeratology can efficiently palliate myopia and improve the naked vision.This study is to evaluate the effect of overnight orthokeratology in correcting myopia and controlling its development in adolescents.Methods We included in this study 35 myopia patients(68 eyes) aged 8-14 years,who had worn overnight ortho-k contact lens(-1.00 D to-5.55 D,[-3.75±-0.84] D) for 3 years.We measured their visual acuity,naked vision,refraction,corneal endothelia,axial length,corneal thickness,and corneal curvature before and at 6,12,24 and 36 months after lens wearing.We also compared the changes of their refraction and axial length with those of the age-matched spectacles-wearers.Results Three years of overnight ortho-k lens wearing reduced myopia by-2.65 D to-2.80 D and increased the mean diameter of central corneal curvature by 0.21-0.30 mm,respectively.Statistically significant changes were observed in corneal endothelial cells from the 3rd year(P0.05),but not at 6,12 and 24 months(P0.05),and the axial length showed remarkable difference at 36 months from that before ortho-k lens wearing(P0.05).The yearly increase of the axial length was more significant in the age-matched spectacles-wearers than in the adolescents wearing overnight ortho-k lens.There were no significant changes in corneal thickness at 36 months(P0.05),nor serious complications in the ocular surface during the follow-up.Conclusion Long-term orthokeratology can efficiently improve naked vision,reduce myopia and control the increase of axial length,but may also induce mild morphological changes of corneal endothelial cells.
The influence of overnight orthokeratology on corneal topography and vision quality

Abstract:ObJective To investigate the changes and daily fluctuation of corneal shape and ocular aberrations in myopic eyes undergoing overnight orthokeratology,and to analyze the relationship among comeal shape,ocular aberrations and vision.Methods Seventeen young myopic subjects (34eyes) were recruited with myopia from-0.75D to-4.50D.Subjective refraction,uncorrected visual acuity,ocular aberrations,corneal curvature,corneal thickness and contrast sensitivity were performed at baseline and 1 day,1 week and 1 month after lens were wom.Except for baseline,all the parameters were collected at three different times during the day,immediately following lens removal and 4,8 hours after lens removal.Results Orthokeratology significantly improved logMAR uncorrected visual acuity from 0.91±0.30 to 0.02±0.16 (P ＜0.05),decreased the corneal curvature of 3mm from 43.53±1.11D to 41.39± 1.14D (P ＜0.05).But significantly increased ocular higher-order aberrations and decreased contrast sensitivity function.The AULCSF decreased from 1.43±0.07 to 1.33±0.14 (P ＜0.05).The daily fluctuations of visual acuity and AULCSF were stable after 1 week.But the significant changes of daily fluctuations on comeal curvature,corneal thickness and ocular aberration were still observed after 1 month (P ＜0.05).Conclusions Overnight orthokeratology is effective in the reduction of myopic refractive error.Although the regression of corneal shape and ocular aberrations existed in the daytime after one month,vision quality changes remain stable.
Infectious keratitis associated with contact lens wear: REGINFECOR multicenter study

Abstract:This 32-centre multicentre study addresses the lack of knowledge about the prevalence and significance of microbial keratitis (MK) associated with contact lens (CL) wear in Spain. A total of 304 cases recruited from 32 hospitals were studied and showed that infectious keratitis associated with contact lens wear mainly affects young women during the summer months. In this study, soft lenses with monthly replacement and single solution cleaning were most commonly used, purchased and fitted in opticians' shops. Common risk factors were identified among users, such as topping off solutions, prolonging the life of lenses, and frequently sleeping, swimming and showering with lenses. Overnight lens wear was significantly associated with a higher incidence of corneal opacities, and the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in bacterial cultures was associated with more severe sequelae and a greater need for corneal transplantation. Although most cases were benign, the time taken to heal was long, which poses a problem for working patients. This study provides valuable epidemiological, microbiological and risk factor information and estimates the incidence of CL related MK in Spain to be approximately 1 case per 30,000 inhabitants per year.
A new approach for quantifying epithelial and stromal thickness changes after orthokeratology contact lens wear

Abstract:The aim of the study was to develop an automatic segmentation approach to optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and to investigate the changes in epithelial and stromal thickness profile and radius of curvature after the use of orthokeratology (Ortho-K) contact lenses. A total of 45 right eyes from 52 participants were monitored before, and after one month of, uninterrupted overnight Ortho-K lens wear. The tomography of their right eyes was obtained using optical OCT and rotating Scheimpflug imaging (OCULUS Pentacam). A custom-built MATLAB code for automatic segmentation of corneal OCT images was created and used to assess changes in epithelial thickness, stromal thickness, corneal and stromal profiles and radii of curvature before, and after one month of, uninterrupted overnight wear of Ortho-K lenses. In the central area (0-2 mm diameter), the epithelium thinned by 12.8 ± 6.0 µm (23.8% on average, p < 0.01) after one month of Ortho-K lens wear. In the paracentral area (2-5 mm diameter), the epithelium thinned nasally and temporally (by 2.4 ± 5.9 µm, 4.5% on average, p = 0.031). The stroma thickness increased in the central area (by 4.8 ± 16.1 µm, p = 0.005). The radius of curvature of the central corneal anterior surface increased by 0.24 ± 0.26 mm (3.1%, p < 0.01) along the horizontal meridian and by 0.34 ± 0.18 mm (4.2%, p < 0.01) along the vertical meridian. There were no significant changes in the anterior and posterior stromal radius of curvature. This study introduced a new method to automatically detect the anterior corneal surface, the epithelial posterior surface and the posterior corneal surface in OCT scans. Overnight wear of Ortho-K lenses caused thinning of the central corneal epithelium. The anterior corneal surface became flattered while the anterior and posterior surfaces of the stroma did not undergo significant changes. The results are consistent with the changes reported in previous studies. The reduction in myopic refractive error caused by Ortho-K lens wear was mainly due to changes in corneal epithelium thickness profile.
Increased Corneal Toricity after Long-Term Orthokeratology Lens Wear

Abstract:Purpose To investigate the change in corneal toricity and associated refractive astigmatism after discontinuation of long-term orthokeratology (ortho-k) lens wear. Methods This study investigated 136 subjects aged between 6 and 14 (9.1 ± 1.5) years old at the commencement of ortho-k treatment, who had been undergoing overnight ortho-k treatment for 24 to 72 (37.4 ± 11.9) months. Corneal refractive power and manifest refraction were measured and compared before ortho-k and 1 month after discontinuation of ortho-k lens wear. Changes in corneal curvature were analyzed. Corneal curvature data from a historical longitudinal study were used as control. Results Compared to pre-ortho-k values, the corneal curvature became significantly flatter in the flatter meridian (−0.22 ± 0.27 D, P < 0.001) and steeper in the steeper meridian (0.06 ± 0.34 D, P=0.032) after cessation of ortho-k lens wear, resulting in a significant increase in corneal toricity (0.28 ± 0.43 D, P < 0.001), which is associated with an increase in refractive astigmatism (0.57 ± 0.57 D, r=0.465, P < 0.001). The amount of residual corneal flattening in the flatter meridian is significantly affected by the length of ortho-k treatment (t=−2.965, P=0.004) and the baseline age of subject (t=−2.841, P=0.005), but not by the baseline spherical or cylindrical refractive error (both P > 0.05). In the historical control group, there is no significant change in the corneal curvature over two years in children wearing spectacle lenses (both meridians, P > 0.05). Change of corneal toricity was more significant in the ortho-k group than in the spectacle control group (P=0.001). Conclusions Long-term ortho-k lens wear increases corneal toricity after discontinuation of the treatment, which is associated with an increase in refractive astigmatism. A more pronounced change in corneal toricity was found in subjects who were younger to start ortho-k and have been in a longer period of treatment. Abstract:Our review provides an update on the current landscape of contact lens-associated microbial keratitis (MK). We discuss the prevalence and risk factors associated with MK, emphasizing the role of overnight wear, poor hygiene, and contact lens type. CL-related MK is commonly caused by bacteria, though can also be caused by fungi or protozoa. Clinical presentation involves ocular pain, redness, and vision loss, with more specific presenting symptoms based on the culprit organism. Treatment strategies encompass prevention through proper hygiene and broad-spectrum antibiotic, antifungal, or antiprotozoal therapy, with surgical management reserved for severe recalcitrant cases.
Microbial Keratitis After Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking for Corneal Ectasia

Abstract:Purpose: The aim of this study was to report the clinical profile and microbiological of patients with microbial keratitis post accelerated corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL). Methods: A retrospective case series of all patients diagnosed with microbial keratitis post-CXL who attended the Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2019 were included. Patients were identified from hospital coding and pathology data. Data were extracted from patients' medical records. Results: Eleven eyes from 10 patients with a mean age of 29 ± 11 years (range 16-48) were included. The median time of infection after CXL surgery was 4 days [interquartile range (IQR) 3-83]. Median initial and final Visual acuity at presentation were 1.3 logMAR (IQR 1-2.0) and 0.8 logMAR (IQR 0.6-1.2), respectively. The culture positivity rate was 92%, identifying 13 isolates, predominately made up of coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (n = 6, 50%) and Staphylococcus aureus (n = 3, 25%). The median epithelial healing time was 30 days (IQR 15-53). Conclusions: Post-CXL microbial keratitis was predominately associated with gram-positive bacteria and in some cases delayed epithelialization. Microbial keratitis post-CXL may lead to moderate to poor patient outcomes.
