Abstract:AIM: The aim of this study is to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the readiness for hospital discharge scale/short form.BACKGROUND: Assessment of readiness for discharge from the patient's perspective is becoming increasingly important for patient safety, satisfaction and various patient outcomes such as readmission, health service utilization and mortality. The readiness for hospital discharge scale/short form allows health care providers to determine patients' discharge readiness.METHODS: Participants were 1,579 inpatients from internal medicine departments. The readiness for hospital discharge scale/short form was translated into Turkish via back-translation. We analyzed its reliability and validity via item analyses, an expert panel (content validity) and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (construct validity).RESULTS: The Cronbach's alpha of the whole scale was .74 and those for the subscales ranged from .79 to .93. The Spearman-Brown reliability coefficient was .92. The confirmatory factor analysis revealed good fit indices (χ<sup>2</sup> /df = 2.6; RMSEA = .03; CFI = 1; GFI and AGFI = .99). The mean total score was 7.27 ± 1.85, while the subscale means ranged from 6.62 ± 3.41 to 7.69 ± 2.24.CONCLUSION: The Turkish version of the readiness for hospital discharge scale/short form is a valid and reliable tool for assessing discharge readiness. The subscales with low means suggest opportunities for improvement.IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: If readiness for hospital discharge scale/short form is valid and reliable, patients who are unready for discharge can be determined with this scale. Thus, nurse managers can determine what kind of measures should be taken for patients who are not ready for discharge, can control nursing practices related to these patients and can provide cooperation between the nurses and other health professionals.

Turkish adaptation of the nursing student academic resilience inventory: A validity and reliability study

Abstract:Background: Due to the stressful nature of nursing education, it is stated that academic resilience is an important skill for students. However, there is no measurement tool to determine nursing students' academic resilience in our country. Objectives: This study was conducted to adapt the nursing student academic resilience inventory to Turkish and determine its validity and reliability. Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional, and methodological design was used. Setting: The study was conducted with nursing students between May 2022 and June 2022. Participants: The study included 250 s, third, and fourth-year nursing students. Methods: The data were collected using a personal information form, the nursing student academic resilience inventory and the resilience scale for nurses. Results: The inventory showed a 6-factor structure, namely optimism, communication, self-esteem/evaluation, self-awareness, trustworthiness, and self-regulation and consisted of 24 items. In confirmatory factor analysis, all factor loads were found to be >0.30. The fit indexes of the inventory were χ2/df = 2.294, GFI = 0.848, IFI = 0.853, CFI = 0.850, RMSEA = 0.072, and SRMR = 0.067. Cronbach's alpha of the total inventory was 0.887. Conclusions: The Turkish version of the nursing student academic resilience inventory was shown to be a valid and reliable measurement tool.

Abstract:Aim The aim of this study was to conduct a Turkish validity and reliability study of the Gerontological Nursing Competence Scale and to adapt the scale to Turkish culture. Background As the number of older people increses, gerontological nursing requires specialized expertise in older people care. High-quality basic education and further education guarantee good competence in gerontological care. Design A methodological study of instrument translation and validation Methods The study was methodological and the sample consisted of 530 university students who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected by online interview method using the Introductory Information Form and Gerontological Nursing Competence Scale (GeroNursingCom). Before starting the study, permission was obtained from the ethics committee, the relevant institution, the scale owner and the students. Language equivalence and content validity of the scale were ensured and Confirmatory Factor Analysis Models (CFA) was conducted. Cronbach Alpha and item-total correlation analysis were used for the reliability of the scale. Results The scale was compatible in terms of linguistic fidelity Content Validity Index (CVI) (Language)=0.97 and content fidelity CVI (Content)=0.96. The CFA results showed that the χ 2/ sd value was 1.861 and since this value was less than three, it can be stated that the model provided an excellent fit to the data. Comparative Fit Index (CFI) and Non-normalized Fit Index (NNFI) values were determined as 0.99 and 0.99 respectively and these values being above 0.90 indicate that the model provides an excellent fit to the data. Square Root of Standardized Errors (SRMR) index was 0.045 and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) index was 0.040 and these values were less than 0.080, indicating that the model provided an excellent fit to the data. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of 0.97 was found to be highly reliable and the Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficients calculated for the sub-dimensions ranged between 0.77 and 0.91. Conclusions It was determined that the gerontological nursing competence scale is valid and reliable for nursing students and can be used in both student and working nurses living in Turkey.

Abstract:To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Ottawa Sitting Scale (OSS) developed for acute care patients into Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties in intensive care unit (ICU) survivors.After translation process the Turkish version of the scale was adminstered to eighty-one patients aged 39–82 years after discharge from the ICU and videotape was recorded. Two physiotherapists watched the videotaped records during the evaluation and scored. Test-retest reliability was assesed by scoring the same video recordings 15 days after the initial scoring. Correlations of the OSS with Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Functional Independence Measurement (FIM), the ICU length of stay and, total mechanical ventilation duration were assessed for convergent validity.The intra-class correlation coefficient for inter and intra-rater reliability was 0.989–0.994 and 0.998 respectively. The internal consistency was excellent (Cronbach's α = 0.998). The OSS score was highly correlated with the BBS total score (r = 0.716), the BBS unsupported sitting item score (r = 0.863), and moderately correlated with the total score of the FIM (r = 0.602), the number of days in ICU (r= −0.545), and total mechanical ventilation duration (r = −0.518).The Turkish version of OSS has been found to be valid and reliable in assessment of sitting balance in patients discharged from intensive care unit.Physiotherapeutic measurements are crucial and necessary to determine the functional status of the patients.Ottawa Sitting Scale was translated and culturally adapted to Turkish and showed good psychometric propertiesOttawa Sitting Scale is valid and reliable tool to evaluate sitting balance in intensive care unit survivors.Ottawa Sitting Scale can guide clinicians in establishing evaluation and rehabilitation programs for patients discharged from intensive care unit.

Abstract:Background Determining nurses’ attitudes and behaviors toward error reporting is important in providing safe, high-quality patient care. The current study aimed to test Turkish validity and reliability of the Incident-Reporting Attitude Scale for Staff in Long-Term Care Facilities. Methods This psychometric study was conducted in two stages with 395 nurses and nurse managers in long-term care at a university hospital between May 2021 and January 2022. First, the Turkish adaptation of the scale was performed. The scale's internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha and corrected item-total score correlation. Content validity indices were used for content validity, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used for construct validity. Discriminant analysis and internal consistency coefficient were used for reliability analyses. Results The results showed that the Turkish scale adaptation is adequate for language and content equivalence. According to CFA, the scale comprising 31 items and two subscales in the original version showed a significantly good fit in a 26-item and five-factor model. The Cronbach's alpha of the modified scale was 0.92; it was 0.88, 0.94, 0.82, 0.96, and 0.90 for the subscales, respectively. Conclusions The Turkish scale adaptation has consistently shown acceptable psychometric reliability and validity characteristics. It can be used by healthcare services and nursing managers to evaluate nurses’ attitudes toward incident reporting in healthcare facilities providing long-term care.
Validity and reliability study of the quality of recovery scale in Turkish

Abstract:Background/aim: The aim of this study was to adapt the "Quality of Recovery-15 Scale", developed to measure the postoperative recovery quality of individuals, into Turkish by carrying out validity and reliability studies. Materials and methods: This methodological study was conducted with a total of 150 patients who underwent surgery under general anesthesia between November 2021 and January 2022 in a training and research hospital in the Black Sea region. Data was collected from the patients through the face-to-face interview method before the operation, on the 24th and the 48th hour postoperatively. First, the linguistic validity of the scale and then the validity and reliability analyses were carried out. Construct validity, confirmatory factor, and reliability analyses were then performed. Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.851. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test for goodness of fit of the one-dimensional 14-item scale was 0.853 and Bartlett's test was significant. The goodness of fit values of the scale were found to be RMSEA = 0.149, CFI = 0.769, and GFI = 0.745, and they were considered acceptable levels. The eighth item was removed from the scale, which had originally consisted of 15 items, because the item correlation coefficient of this item was <0.200. Conclusion: The "Quality of Recovery Scale" was found to be a reliable and valid scale that can be used to measure the quality of recovery after surgery in Turkish society.

Abstract:Background Nurses need to understand their own cultures in order to care for patients in ways that are based on the cultural structure of the patient, which means to the patient’s cultural values and beliefs. Aim This study was conducted in Turkey, and the aim of the study was to test the Turkish validity and reliability of the Individual Cultural Values Scale (CVSCALE) for nurses. Methods This research was a methodological study. The sample of the research was composed of 256 nurses. The reliability and validity analyses were performed such as additivity, Cronbach’s alpha, response bias, language, content, and construct validity. Ethical approval was obtained for the research. Results The content validity index of the scale was .91. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, it was determined that the model had a good fit, and five dimensions of the scale were confirmed. The internal consistencies of subscales, except those for power distance and masculinity, were very reliable. The test–retest correlations were found to be very high for the CVSCALE. Conclusion The Turkish form of the Individual Cultural Values Scale that was conducted on nurses had acceptable levels of validity and reliability. Measuring culture at the individual level is important for transcultural nursing, and it will contribute the creation of nursing policies in Turkey.
The Turkish version of the Skin Tear Knowledge Assessment Instrument (OASES): Validity and reliability study

Abstract:This study was conducted to adapt the Skin Tear Knowledge Assessment Instrument (OASES) into Turkish and to verify its validity and reliability. This study was conducted on 314 nurses in Türkiye between November 2023 and February 2024 to test the psychometric properties of OASES. The instrument consists of 20 items clustered into six domains. The cultural adaptation process was carried out according to the International Testing Commission guidelines: Turkish translation, expert panel, content validity, translation back to English, preliminary study and the final version of the instrument. To check the validity of the multiple-choice test, item difficulty and discriminating index were analysed. The reliability of the instrument was evaluated to the retest 14 days after the first test. Scale level content validity by 11 experts in wound care was 0,97 (I-CVI = 0.8-1.0). In the item analysed of the OASES, the item difficulty index was 0,51 (p-value = 0.34-0.76) and the discriminating index was 0.40 (D-value = 0.26-0.51). The 2-week test-retest intraclass correlation coefficient of the overall instrument was 0.90 (95% CI = 0.79-0.95). The Turkish version of OASES is a valid and reliable measurement instrument to evaluate nurses' knowledge levels regarding skin tears with acceptable psychometric properties. It can be applied in nursing education, research and practice to evaluate the knowledge of Turkish speaking nurses about skin tears.

Abstract:Aim: This study was conducted to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine nursing students' attitudes towards nurses during the clinical practice. Background: Nurses affect the clinical practice process of nursing students and play an important role in the latter gaining experience. Evaluation of students' attitudes towards nurses is a critical factor for the training of qualified nurses. Design: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design. Methods: This study was conducted between February and March 2024 with 408 students studying in the nursing department of a university in Türkiye. The item pool of the scale was formed with 45 items through literature review and qualitative data analysis and presented to 21 experts. After the content validity, the draft scale consisting of 38 items was used as a data collection tool. Lawshe's Content Validity Ratio, Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin Coefficient, Bartlett's test, Exploratory Factor Analysis, Principal Component Analysis, Varimax Factor Rotation Method, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Cronbach's Alpha Internal Consistency Coefficient, Spearman Correlation Coefficient and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks tests were used to analyze the data. Results: Exploratory factor analysis revealed 28 items and three sub-dimensions in the scale. Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient was 0.902 for the cooperation and understanding sub-dimension, 0.925 for the communication skills and guidance sub-dimension, 0.723 for the support for professional development sub-dimension and 0.946 for the total scale. According to the confirmatory factor analysis fit index results of the scale, RMSEA value was 0.054 and χ2/df value was 2.189. As a result of the analysis conducted to determine the test-retest reliability, it was determined that all items and factor scores showed significant relationships between the two applications (p<0.001). Conclusions: The scale was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to determine nursing students' attitudes towards nurses during the clinical practice.
Psychometric Properties of the Turkish CardioToxicity Management Self-Efficacy Scale for Nurses

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the CardioToxicity Management Self-Efficacy Scale (NSS-CTC) in Turkey.METHOD: This methodological and descriptive study was undertaken with 204 oncology nurses. Information was gathered using a descriptive questionnaire and the NSS-CTC instrument. In the validity analysis of the scale, explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used. In the reliability analysis, Cronbach α coefficient and Pearson correlation analysis were used to examine item-total score correlations, and Student t-test was used for test-retest analysis.RESULTS: The scale, characterized by a two-dimensional structure confirmed through factor analysis, exhibited an explained variance rate of 60.44%. The factor loadings exceeded the threshold of 0.30, and all fitness indices surpassed the criterion of 0.90. Furthermore, the root-mean-square error of approximation (RMSEA) fell below 0.080 and demonstrated statistical significance. The scale demonstrated strong internal consistency, as indicated by the overall Cronbach α coefficient of 0.930, with its subdimensions exhibiting similarly high reliability, reflected in Cronbach α values of 0.871 and 0.912, respectively.CONCLUSION: The NSS-CTS is a valid and reliable tool specifically developed for evaluating nurses' self-efficacy in the context of oncology wards, particularly in managing cardiotoxicity resulting from cancer treatments.IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: This newly developed scale holds significant promise in gauging nurses' confidence levels when confronted with the intricacies of cardiotoxicity management. It responds to the growing imperative for nurses to continually enhance their knowledge and skills to effectively address the evolving challenges associated with cardiotoxicity in cancer care.

Abstract:Introduction: To evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Symptoms of Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction Research Network Symptom Index-10 (LURN SI-10). Materials and methods: In this, single-centre study, patients between 18 and 65 years old, who were suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) without any known urinary tract disease and on no medication, were enrolled. The control group consisted of participants, who were admitted to our clinic suffering from any complaint except LUTS and met all of the other inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants' demographics such as age, sex, and level of education were recorded. The Turkish version of the LURN SI-10, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and Overactive Bladder Questionnaire (OAB-V8) were administered to all participants. Construct validity was evaluated by confirmatory factor analysis and concurrent validity was evaluated with correlations to similar measures. Internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) was used to establish the scale's internal consistency reliability. Results: A total of 164 participants were included in the final analysis. Of those, 57% were male. The individuals were identified as being in the "patient group" (n = 86) and a "control group" (n = 78). The mean age was 48.24 ± 14.30 years. The median total LURN SI-10 scores of patient group and control group were 12.0 (9-18.25) and 4.0 (2.75-6), respectively. The LURN SI-10 questionnaire showed a high correlation with the IPSS and the OAB-V8 questionnaires (r: 0.761; p: 0.001; r: 0.737; p: 0.001, respectively) in concurrent validity analysis. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the LURN SI-10 was 0.850. Conclusions: This promising measurement tool can be used to evaluate LUTS in Turkish women and men. Further studies should be conducted to assess the clinical usefulness of this questionnaire.
Validity and reliability study of the Turkish Personal Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension Scale: a revised scale

Abstract:Background: Intercultural communication is one of the most important competencies of nurses that enhances the health-care process and increases the quality of care in multicultural environments. Aims: This study was conducted to revise the Turkish Personal Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension Scale. Methods: This methodological study was conducted between November and December 2021 with 321 female and 96 male university students (mean age 20.78 ± 2.04 (min. = 17, max. = 37)). Revision of the Turkish Personal Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension Scale included factor analysis, test-retest analysis for reliability, correlation-based item analysis, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: Analysis results showed that the scale was composed of 12 items and explained 56.79% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha value of the scale was found to be 0.88. Internal consistency analysis included item-total score correlations; the values were found to range between -0.59 and 0.79 and the 14th item with negative item-total score correlations was excluded from the scale. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the revised Turkish Personal Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension Scale is a valid and reliable tool.
The Scale on Community Care Perception (SCOPE) for nursing students: The reliability and validity

Abstract:Aim: The fact that a great majority of undergraduate nursing students do not prefer to work in the field of community health after graduation is an important issue in terms of community care. This study evaluated the validity and reliability of Turkish adaptation of the Scale on Community Care Perception (SCOPE) for nursing students. Design: This study is a methodological study. Methods: The study was conducted in two phases. The sample of the study was composed of 601 undergraduate nursing students studying in a university located in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. The data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form and "Scale on Community Care Perception for Nursing Students." Results and discussion: The content validity index of the Turkish version of the scale was 0.91. The scale consisted of 28 items and 6 subscales and these 6 subscales accounted for 60.297% of the total variance. The Turkish adaptation of the SCOPE is demonstrated validity and reliability and can be used in measuring the community care perception of Turkish nursing students.
Investigation of the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Comprehensive Coordination Scale in patients with Parkinson's disease

Abstract:Objective: The Comprehensive Coordination Scale (CCS) is a valid, reliable scale for evaluating motor coordination, described as the ability to produce context-dependent movements of multiple body parts in both spatial and temporal domains in patients with chronic stroke. The aim of this study was to develop a Turkish version of the CCS that can be used to evaluate coordination in Parkinson's disease patients and to test its validity and reliability. Methods: Thirty-four patients with Parkinson's disease (18 females, 16 males) with a mean age of 67.55± 10.93 years were included. The 9-Hole Peg Test (9 HPT), Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Functional Reach Test (FRT), and Modified Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y) were administered to the patients. Results: In the correlation analysis for convergent validity, the CCS-TR showed a moderate negative correlation with both the 9 HPT and the TUG test (r=-0.684 and -0.641, respectively). There were also moderate positive correlations observed between the CCS-TR and the FRT and BBS (r=0.607 and 0.657, respectively). The total CCS-TR had excellent intrarater reliability (ICC=0.99; 95 % CI: 0.98-0.99) and interrater reliability (ICC=0.90; 95 % CI: 0.81-0.95). The CCS-TR subscales had excellent intrarater reliability (ICC: range 0.98 from 0.99). For intrarater agreement, the ICC was 0.99, and for interrater agreement, the ICC was 0.90 (excellent agreement). Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that the Turkish version of the CCS is a reliable and valid coordination scale that can be used in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Abstract:Aim This study aims to adapt the "Nursing Practice Readiness Scale" to Turkish culture, and evaluate its psychometric properties. Background New graduates' nursing practice readiness can impact their work adaptation and performance. Design The research employed a methodological design. Methods Data were collected between May and July 2022. The sample consisted of 436 newly graduated nurses. Content validity, construct validity and criterion validity were evaluated. Reliability was examined with adjusted item‐total correlation, Cronbach's a coefficient, composite‐reliability and split‐half reliability. Results The Turkish version of Nursing Practice Readiness Scale was found to have good content and criterion validity. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, the original five‐factor structure of the scale was also confirmed for the Turkish version. The scale's overall Cronbach's α coefficient was determined to be 0.96, with subscale coefficients ranging from 0.73 to 0.94. The composite reliability values of the subscales were found between 0.75 and 0.94. In split‐half reliability, the correlation coefficient between half was 0.952, with a Spearman–Brown Coefficient (Unequal Length) of 0.976. Conclusions The Turkish version of Nursing Practice Readiness Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for evaluating the nursing practice readiness of newly graduated nurses.
